Hopkins lacrosse is 141 years old or whatever. If they don't have the resources it's on the program, the athletic department, and University leadership for some of the comments Daniels has made and actions he's taken or this spring not taken. I would be pretty upset if the university was turning to Bloomberg for lacrosse or athletics because the lacrosse program is the absolute last part of the university that needs his support.

Rivals build these facilities (that become outdated in 15 years) and the media and message boards go gaga. Then you look up their contractors and see Yale is using the same folks that SUNY Stony Brook uses for its Cultural Center. Not exactly the Taj Mahal.

Yale Lacrosse "We have lighting built by the people who did the SUNY UNITI Cultural Center". Boola Boola.
MB was a townie, i doubt he has any interest in funding lax, a law school or something along those lines maybe. It would be interesting to see the long term capital plan. I have not known any details in a decade.

With new facilities being built ( was it UVA that was talking about a facility as a gamechanger?) to me they set off capital campaigns but do not change much if others don’t allow themselves to fall too far behind, the indoor practice facility was funded out of the program but never built bcs of available space? Loyola was in a worse situation eg space and bad relations w neighbors and associated issues but found a way around it.

I think Jen is terrific. I am not so sure Hopkins will not fall too far behind in quality of facilities over time. Planned giving from donors like a Cordish or Cowan could provide funding but available space among other items could be a concern.

Yale has a nice facility, but they share it with men's and women's soccer. Mr. Alibaba is an asset for them. And for lacrosse in general. Wouldn't be surprised if he buys a PLL team if/when the league moves to an ownership model.

Perhaps Mike B's visit with the Jays at Cordish this spring was the first step in a more beneficial relationship, if you catch my drift. Regardless, as others have mentioned his gifts to the school have indirectly helped the lacrosse program. A more direct contribution isn't out of the question.

Here's incoming freshman faceoff guy Joe Hobot scoring behind-the-back on the run in transition at last night's National ASG: https://www.instagram.com/p/C8f7rlaAu1U/

Definitely not your average "FOGO." Very capable on the offensive end. There is negative defense played in these all-star games, but still, that's an impressive shot for a faceoff guy no matter the context.

How did Hobot do in faceoffs last night? And cook in goal?

Former UMBC M/SSDM/LSM Colby Weishaar is transferring to @jhumenslacrosse, a source tells @Inside_Lacrosse.

The versatile defender caused 8 TOs & scooped 12 GBs. Blue Jay DC Jamison Koesterer recruited him to Catonsville.

Interesting. Had 29 GBs and 20 CTs in 14 games in 2023.

Seems like a real defensive swiss army knife. Based on team need he might get some run at SSDM, which perhaps allows someone like Hackler to play more offense. Got to assume Jamo is high on him.

Always good to have an experienced guy with positional versatility. Reminds me a bit of Jaronski who was a pole in high school who'd switch sticks in the middle of the game to play offense, then came to Homewood as an LSM before converting to SSDM.

Any ideas about the drop-off between 2023 and 2024?

Really good pickup, building depth at SSDM/LSM. Has he ever played wing on FOs?

weishaar weisshaar is going to be lit. Bet quint and carc are glad they don't have to do that one in the sub 35 degree baltimore february environs.

love that they're pounding the pavement to add bodies.

Wrong Weisshaar, I think. We’re getting Colby, not his brother at Towson.

51 had a point earlier that while the starters at close D and LSM are very good, one injury and suddenly there's not much depth (of proven guys, at least) behind them. Seems like the staff may have agreed. Nice to have another chess piece that you can plug in at close, LSM, or even SSDM should you need one.

Wrong entirely I believe - The player coming to Hopkins has one "s" in his last name and is not related to the AA midfielder from Towson who has two letters S in his last name.

It was an observation that one Weisshaar might cover the other but agreed

I didn't suggest they were related or that we were getting the Towson one. Just that it will be funny seeing them against each other.

One of my favorite things about this regime is that while they might not be getting the 5 star IL cover boys like Petro did, they really seem to be exhausting all options to use the portal to boost the roster. Whether this works in the end is another matter, but it's really hard to argue against the effort they're making and the positions they've added at. You can feel a sense of urgency that really wasn't there towards the end with the last regime aside from the early recruiting.

the 8 cts/12gbs sounds like an opportunistic aviles type who can hold his own defensively and generate turnovers more than someone who can play wing and vacuum gbs.

He had 29 GBs in 14 games the year before — my guess is he was used differently this year. Your numbers don't just fall off a cliff like that unless there's an injury or a change in role/position.

Not sure if there are any UMBC/America East experts here who can give us a sense of how he was deployed or what to expect. The book on him certainly appears to be "versatility" so could see him wear multiple hats. I suspect this is more about depth and said versatility than it is about plugging a hole in the lineup like it was with Staudt or the Yale guys.

Petro's teams didn't want to take the ball away and struggled to find good goaltending and decent SSDMs.
As a result, they got blown out a lot.
The current group values takeaways on defense, getting transfers to play in goal as opposed to early recruits, and doesn't get blown out.
Philosophical changes have gone a long way for the current program, despite the lack of high profile recruits.

If you'll notice my prior post I was just correcting the notion that the two were related - did not attribute it to you.
Every picture on the UMBC web-site has him as an LSM with a 6 ft pole.
FWIW - UMBC's web site says 24 gbs and 17 CTOs for 2023

If he switched to a short stick as part of 2024 that would likely explain the reduction in numbers - especially the CTOs
