Re: Baseball
Billy Wagner was the first pitcher I ever saw hit 100 mph in person.
Re: Baseball
One thing DMac will approve of is the fact that he’s a lefty….well at least while pitching but he’s right handed. When he was a kid he naturally played with his right but broke that arm so started throwing with his left while it was healing. His right arm healed but not too much later he fractured it again. So after that he just stuck with throwing with his left arm, great decision on his part.
Maybe a unique situation for him but there are other athletes who switch for other reasons. Jordan Spieth, great golfer, plays golf right handed because that’s the way he was taught but he’s a lefty in everything else.
Re: Baseball
Phil Mickelson is another one with a bit of a crazy story.
From Wiki:
Lyle Thompson is another one who benefitted from a broken collar bone.Phil Mickelson is actually right-handed, but he plays golf left-handed. The story goes that Phil Mickelson Sr. was practicing his chipping in the back yard when his son and future six-time major champ picked up a golf club and started swinging — left-handed. The legend goes that Phil was trying to be a “mirror-image” of his right-hand swinging father, so even though he does everything else right-handed, the lefty swing stuck 1. However, it is not recommended for right-handers to swing lefty, or vice versa, as it can create issues with the lead arm 1
From Wiki:
After the injury, one arm was in a sling, but Lyle would still attend lacrosse practice wielding his lacrosse with the one arm that was healthy. During this time, he developed the skill set of one-handed lacrosse play, particularly bottom-hand one-handed play

Baseball...the good old days
Anyone else nostalgic for the old time broadcasts of baseball? No bells or whistles or fancy graphics. No split second flashing from one view to another to another. No hype. Just...the game itself. This is a clip I edited and spliced to give an idea of the 1965 broadcast. (Funny to see Billy Martin as a 3rd base coach for the Twins.)

All great achievements but there is one that is missing: the player/coach with the most appearances & wins in the World Series. That honor belongs to the great Frank Crosetti:

seventeen World Championship teams and 23 World Series participants overall (1932–1964)

Negro Leagues now OFFICIALLY part of the Major Leagues:

The reporter in this clip is standing on the same spot I have stood on many, many times. Kudos to Toni Stone.
This recognition by MLB is long overdue. I am so glad to know Josh Gibson is immortalized by this change as he and my dad were very good friends.

At a game in Seattle recently the woman seen in the video was nice enough to return the ball to Astros player Yordan Alvarez instead of keeping it.
He’s hit many home runs but that was the first time he’s hit the cycle.
