So I'm guessing the UN and their powder blue helmet peace keepers would put the fear of the Almighty into Putin? Anybody ask the UN how we should handle the war in Ukraine? Maybe the Norks can offer up a truly neutral force of peace keepers? I don't know if the cute powder blue helmets will get Lil Kims approval. How much longer until this war expands to new players? An infusion of fresh blood to be spilled will help to share the burden with the Ukrainian people. I am "implying" that NATO is important, economically, culturally, in defense terms, and that its importance continues to be as the backbone of deterrence through Article 5. I agree with the point that Old Salt focused on: admission of Ukraine to NATO has significant risks. But the reality is and will continue to be that the Czar will not discontinue the war he started with Ukraine or refrain from other efforts to re-assimilate former Soviet vassals back into the Russian Federation.youthathletics wrote: ↑Wed Jun 19, 2024 3:34 pmYes, that is why I asked?Seacoaster(1) wrote: ↑Wed Jun 19, 2024 10:55 amReally?youthathletics wrote: ↑Wed Jun 19, 2024 9:16 amWhat are you implying?Seacoaster(1) wrote: ↑Wed Jun 19, 2024 9:01 am We are in no-brainer land here, but only if you use your brain:

Didn't you inject the morons "approved" and "warpspeed" covid shot ? Or, are you another moron that thinks the claim of being effective at prevention, never existed ? Putin's offer of a truce, with the current line of control as the new border & no NATO membership, is the best deal Ukraine can hope for. Ukraine doesn't have to accept it. It will come about naturally. Neither side will try to take new territory. Putin will say he will stop cross border attacks except in response to Ukrainian attacks. The war will settle into a frozen conflict a la Korea (as some of us predicted from the start), while both sides continue to bolster threir defenses.

NATO the UN they both allegedly are suppose to keep the peace. The one thing they both have in common is they suck when it comes to playing the role of peacekeeper. In the case of the UN they do have those really pretty powder blue helmets. Getting dicey. US provided munitions and coordinates used that killed Russian citizens.

"NBC News could not independently confirm what type of weapons were used in the attack."
Of course it's unverified. Not sure any ATACMS claimed to have been shot down by Russia have been verified to date.
I wouldn't be surprised if some of this is friendly fire related. Russia is gonna say whatever it wants.
I personally wouldn't go vacationing in an occupied territory that's been warned for years it may be attacked, but that's just me.

And, unfortunately, NATO force is the only deterrence to Putin's Russia's aggression.
It is obviously not a deterrent to such aggression for any nations not in NATO.
Cradle, NATO is NOT a peacekeeping force.
It is a mutual defense force, enabling a major multiplier effect over what any single nation alone can achieve.

I brought up the innefectivness of UN peacekeepers. How did that morph into the innefectivness of NATO counselor?? FTR counselor forum members going off topic is a common occurrence on this forum that you appear to be unaware of. I'll just consider it a tangent and roll with that. So the next time you go off topic I'll be sure to point it out to you. Your as guilty at times as anybody else so don't play high and mighty. Have a great day counselor. Re: All Things Russia & Ukraine
They were discussing NATO and why NATO matters so much...you dismissively inserted the UN.cradleandshoot wrote: ↑Thu Jun 20, 2024 12:44 pmNATO the UN they both allegedly are suppose to keep the peace. The one thing they both have in common is they suck when it comes to playing the role of peacekeeper. In the case of the UN they do have those really pretty powder blue helmets. Those UN peace keepers simply look so adorable Makes you want to eat em right up.NattyBohChamps04 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 20, 2024 11:31 amHe posted articles about NATO, not the UN. But feel free to keep buttting in with stuff that isn't relatedcradleandshoot wrote: ↑Thu Jun 20, 2024 10:57 amBecause the UN peace keepers are the go to force when you absolutely, positively must have ineffective peace keepers. You know of any nation that respects the UN on any peace keeping mission?.Seacoaster(1) wrote: ↑Wed Jun 19, 2024 5:04 pmSorry, not sure I follow. Why are you talking about UN peacekeepers here?cradleandshoot wrote: ↑Wed Jun 19, 2024 3:57 pmSo I'm guessing the UN and their powder blue helmet peace keepers would put the fear of the Almighty into Putin? Anybody ask the UN how we should handle the war in Ukraine? Maybe the Norks can offer up a truly neutral force of peace keepers? I don't know if the cute powder blue helmets will get Lil Kims approval. How much longer until this war expands to new players? An infusion of fresh blood to be spilled will help to share the burden with the Ukrainian people. Americas anchorman would love to report the story to the people.youthathletics wrote: ↑Wed Jun 19, 2024 3:34 pmYes, that is why I asked?Seacoaster(1) wrote: ↑Wed Jun 19, 2024 10:55 amReally?youthathletics wrote: ↑Wed Jun 19, 2024 9:16 amWhat are you implying?Seacoaster(1) wrote: ↑Wed Jun 19, 2024 9:01 am We are in no-brainer land here, but only if you use your brain:

There are some folks who look at those very popular pretty powder blue helmets as great targets for snipers. If you were trained as a sniper you would understand.

Correct.Seacoaster(1) wrote: ↑Mon Jun 24, 2024 6:47 amYou, apropos of nothing that was being discussed, brought up UN Peacekeeping forces in a discussion about the current utility of NATO. So MDLax responded to your off-topic comments. Simple as that.cradleandshoot wrote: ↑Mon Jun 24, 2024 5:50 amHow did I get dragged into this conversation? I'm well aware of what the responsibilities of NATO are. Their mission obviously changed when the Soviet Union fell apart along with the Warsaw Pact their purpose in the scheme of things has had to be modified.MDlaxfan76 wrote: ↑Sun Jun 23, 2024 9:19 pmWhich is the whole point of NATO...to deter aggression.Seacoaster(1) wrote: ↑Wed Jun 19, 2024 5:03 pmI am "implying" that NATO is important, economically, culturally, in defense terms, and that its importance continues to be as the backbone of deterrence through Article 5.

And, unfortunately, NATO force is the only deterrence to Putin's Russia's aggression.
It is obviously not a deterrent to such aggression for any nations not in NATO.
Cradle, NATO is NOT a peacekeeping force.
It is a mutual defense force, enabling a major multiplier effect over what any single nation alone can achieve.
BTW it is a heavy US Army Brigade at the tip of the spear in Poland. I'm not certain any other NATO nation can provide that security blanket.
