An illegal migrant from El Salvador is responsible for the murder of Rachel Morin, a Maryland mother of five, police announced.

In a press conference on Saturday, Harford County Sheriff Jeffery Gahler said that Victor Martinez-Hernandez was arrested late Friday night and booked on Saturday morning.

"Five hours after meeting with [Morin's] family and just before midnight our time, police in Tulsa, Oklahoma assisted by our federal partners, located and arrested Rachel's murderer: Victor Antonio Martinez-Hernandez," Gahler said.

It is not out of character for who they really are. They envision 10s of millions of new democrat voters indebted to their party. Too bad Democrats don't treat homeless veterans that fought for this country with the same purpose. This situation certainly highlights the immigration issue our country is having with no applications, no checks and balances, not enough enforcement. This guy was a murderer, who killed someone in his home country and his first thought was to come and "hide" anonymously in the US, where he was THEN secure enough in his anonymity to assault a young girl in her own house and stalk/murder Rachel Morin. Totally effed up.

That is how our neighbors and the ones coming in to our country see us. It's a land of opportunity, but not for the good any more. Incredibly disheartening. And a huge issue.

Or are you saying that past generations did see America as "a land of opportunity... for the good"...but not the current immigrants?

You do realize that in every wave of immigrants, throughout American history, some were criminals including murderers and rapists?

Obviously, every criminal who does come and commits a horrendous crime is a tragedy for the victims. I don't hear anyone minimizing that fact.

But to suggest that the vast majority of immigrants no longer come to this country for 'opportunity...for the good' is just nuts.

And that's why statistics on crimes committed by immigrants over time are informative and why comparisons of crime rates among immigrants versa native born are so instructive. They make darn clear that immigrants aren't committing crimes at a higher rate than previously and that immigrants commit fewer crimes as a proportion of the population than native born.

That this refutes far right wing media and political narratives, which have existed in EVERY immigrant wave, is not a problem with the facts but rather in the bigots.

I agree with you that the system is broken, too many people are undocumented and thus not on the open path to citizenship that does such a great job of requiring those aspirants to invest themselves in American civics and history, becoming part of the fabric of a lawful, productive American society.
