Do y’all think Malever is better than Balsamo?? I can’t tell if this is an upgrade for Duke, a downgrade, or a wash.
I’m sure some md Superman will call me names but I think balsamo is better
Malever is better. One had 7 points in 2 games vs ND. The other, 0.
Balsamo was buried for Benn Johnston this year. Did you watch him as a FR? That was a failure by Dani not Balsamo IMO.
Well......Malever has only 1 year left, but has more years of playing experience. We have a pretty good idea of his ceiling and he is very talented. Basalmo has 2 more years to play so hasn't played in as many games, but we don't really know his ceiling yet. He is also very talented. It certainly isn't clear cut that one has a big edge over the other heading into the season. A huge issue is whether they can stay healthy. I know both teams are satisfied with each player they have, so there's that.

This is the best part of the transfer portal. I love how people puff up a transfer players. It is quite similar to a wife/girlfriend phenomenon. You coudl see her clone in the street and think she way hotter, because you havent spent the last few years together. It is awesome to see people look at a kid that was put on the bench for a freshmen as a huge get. Malever was the 3rd option on the worst Maryland offense, since 1897. Development is never linear, so maybe they take a big step. Perhaps they fit in perfectly, but neither of them looked like they could be a star last year.

Fair points, but both players have multiple starts at top 5 programs and were top 10 rated recruits. Most others in the portal cannot claim any of that even though some less heralded others from the portal may do better. Sure, there is hype as a result. However, It's pretty clear that both will be somewhere in the regular rotation at their respective landing spots.

It is an overall comment. Player on their own team and fans say "this guy needs to step-up. Talent is there, but production doesnt match". That player goes to the portal and all of a sudden he gets the new car smell. Almost like recruits. Where you generally focus on the potential, but overlook the holes.

Is CJ Kirst in the portal? I’m still confused on eligibility with respect to the COVID year, especially in the Ivy League.
No, he has another year, he withdrew for a semester to secure his eligibility.
I believe the rest of the Ivy league and Hobart are protesting CJ's eligibility.... ;)
Someone in Geneva might just try to approach Carl Spackler strategy suggested to Ty regarding Judge Smails. “He’ll quit the game!”

But nobody realizes how rigid it is in Geneva and awful that our FR starter D man who could play a level higher and has the size and athleticism in Brooks Rhine just walked down the conference street to Richmond.

I could live with graduated Derrek Madonna going to play with younger brother. But when you lose a 1st team all A10 FR close D man like Rhine to Richmond. Well my position on Raymond is already clear but for folks who don’t know Rhine is valuable than Chris Patterson (who if I believe a rumor I heard may be heading to an Ivy)

https://hwsathletics.com/sports/mens-la ... hine/21470

6’2 think he’s actually heavier than listed closer to 200. 13 games/13 started, 26Gbs and 8 CTs as # 2man to Nolan Firth.

Let’s not act like Rhine was some stud. Theirs a good chance he never touches the field at Richmond, but kudos to him better education and gets away from the dumpster fire that is Hobart lacrosse.
Looks like Hobart has become a achool you go to in hopes of performing to go to a better one. A feeder program.

A lot of people must be questioning Maryland’s recruiting. They have taken a grip of transfers over the last few years.
So I guess they wouldn't be looking at/going to Rutgers.
They had enough taste to get to Geneva they aren’t recidivists and the two that left are heading for better education than they’d get in New Beunswick. We should get his sophisticated analysis on how Media operates in college sports. Literally as linear was getting crushed is explain how the dead model was driving things forward by cable regions. For years refused everyone’s explanation about how the at large selection process works. This is a guy you fade in every way imaginable when he espouses a view.

The colleges are going to have their best year since before the NYT Anna piece or debacle in 08-09 (which not only included the d3 mess but also the grandson of a BoT member overdosing there and ncaa back slapping us because our awesome AD basically didn’t file the right power work since they moved up to D1…and then hired Raymond who’s son and him in his wedding party on the way out the door while having pocketed camp money for what’s depressing BJ and Matt’s ability to function). Probably since around when I left ironically. Both on fundraising and enrollment despite a lot. Hockey team won BTB D3 titles. But flagship sports of FB which had the highest drafted and possibly most prolific career of a D3 player and lacrosse are in the tank. (Relative for football feeling like a part of building it in the early Coach Cragg years after decades of not so great results other than an occasional year in a hundred year history of playing)

Funny how that goes. At least we will never be butler’d but becoming a more generic liberal arts college without that nasty FU lax zeitgeist that made it respected everywhere even in a bad loss until the last decade or so. And football has become run of the mill above .500 who cares in a cohort that runs almost 250 competing programs deep (250 and they get 32 in playoffs and it’s like 4 at larges with national participation coast to coast for all the playoff complaining about ratios here)

Point is with all the news in Geneva homeboy can throw down 1882 and 1766 handles and call Hopkins a rival but they’ll never have what we have no matter how douchy one fraudulent man can get about it while being completely in the dark about most things in life and wrong so often - a natural fake it and never make it who gives what is otherwise a respectable flagship state school a bad rep. I’m covered bc we had Tommy the traveler and Cabell Maddux on campus…no worst than third worst.

Where’s the Rutgers 25 thread yet? When gymman hasn’t posted a thread for you yet and no one else cares to enough to find it at all…
Hahaha, Gekko is so salty. Hobart is a feeder school. That long silly soliloquy (read about 7 words) isn't changing that fact. Get those big St. Bonnie and LeMoyne wins again next year. Exciting times!

Richmond's Grayum and Providence's Cusolito both to Duke: https://x.com/TerenceFoy/status/1800221007330103486

The bulk of Duke's top 9 on offense are going to be transfers, with the potential for the entire starting attack unit to be transfers depending on what they do with McAdorey.

Not ready to say this will be a disaster, but it probably will be a disaster.

Insane that a school that recruits as well as Duke thinks it needs to overhaul its entire offense like this. Don't they have a dozen 4-/5-stars on offense just sitting there?

It cant get much worse. Their midfield has been sub par for a long time, and DanoJr, seems to only set up attackman for the muscle work. IMO, they dont fully know what to do with talent they have....they seem to force a system upon whoever they have, rather than adapting to the talent they have. When they moved Terry Lindsey who was a fabulously fast midfielder with a great shot to SSDM, I knew they had tunnel vision.
A fraudulent intent, however carefully concealed at the outset, will generally, in the end, betray itself.

i'm sure dino jr can get the most out of them.

someone can do the math, but i've seen various places that commits at the p4s are way down in the '25 class. now we have umd, duke, unc dipping pretty heavily into the transfer market, wouldn't put anything past some of the other p4 schools and we haven't even heard from nd yet. or g'town.

new era of roster building? covid brought the 5 year glut, but now you have the possibility of roster tightening, which may not be manifesting itself just yet. is the path mid-major, make your bones and trade up?

It can get a lot worse. That offense certainly laid some eggs throughout the season but overall it was still generally good—very high efficiency metrica—and had some big performances as well (17 vs. Princeton, 18 vs. Virginia, 18 vs. Syracuse the second time). Won't argue that the midfield was subpar or that the staff doesn't get the most out of the pieces they have. But absolutely do think it can get worse.

I get UNC. Coach is coaching for his job.. Its a bad sign for Duke. You have been killing recruiting for a decade and you are loading up in the portal. It is pretty clear sign that you have not developed the roster.

I believe the players have to enter the portal by today, not make a decision on where they are headed. But I would expect more landings in the next week as most of these kids entered the portal right after it opened in mid May.

Interesting to hear the negative comments about him from jilted alumni. Ok, he left Hop for a better fit for him at Maryland which is totally legit. It's his grad year, so perhaps he is using it to attend a graduate degree program not offered at Maryland. I have no knowledge about him, but assuming that, he hardly sounds like he is doing anything nefarious..........Good for him if he is actually extending his education.

I’m not upset he’s leaving; thought he looked great in 22’, but I suppose a lot of guys look great with great players around them. I do wish the best for him.
