The backup is a very able keeper -- which you might say about any of a number of positions in the City lineup. I am not seeing City lose to WHU tomorrow, and Everton might give the Gooners a run.

Backup is able, but also not the starter for a reason. West Ham have looked horrible in some games (the home loss to Arsenal was I think by six goals), but the Hammers are quite capable of giving City a game. Still, if I had to bet, my money would be on the defending champions to repeat. I really wish FIFA would adopt a NFL-like salary cap. The spending is getting out of hand and its effects the competitive balance of leagues.

I work with an Englishman, life-long fan. He dislikes VAR as much as I do.

VAR itself is neutral. The EPL has done a ridiculously bad job of employing it, and has vowed to improve.

Loving Euro 24
Euros and World Cup are among my favorite sporting events, but I’m now putting Euros in front. Primarily because the Euros are played in places you want to be, in sites many fans can drive to, in front of real fans, not corporate give-aways as in WC.

For the most part some really entertaining games as long as England and France aren’t playing. Yesterday’s simultaneous games offered plenty of drama and the Belgium - Romania games was a blast. I’m down to 5 brats in the fridge.

Loving Euro 24

Completely agree. The atmosphere at the games I watched yesterday -- Switzerland v. Germany and stoppage time in Scotland v. Hungary -- were beyond electric, and the endings of both were astounding. No shots of Elon and Jared in the luxury suites; just fans who had traveled to a venue that was reachable for them and their kids.

I am rooting for England, but their game against Denmark was so flat I have serious reservations of their chances. Spain, Portugal and Germany seem to be at a level just a tick above others...but then the Swiss showed that disciplined shape and good players can keep Germany in check. And just for the record, I thought the Netherlands goal against France should have counted.
