Re: Recruiting
While I do wish the minutes played was posted, I do find Inside Lacrosse’s fantasy points to be a good proxy for action a player is getting. Unless of course the role doesn’t yield stats (the defender who clears but doesn’t get GBs or CTOs / the attacker who really just gets hockey assists).

Hey Folks,
How much sway do D3 coaches have with admissions? I assume it likely differs by school, lacrosse team success, and coach tenure, but is there a general sentiment that D3 can or cannot help with admissions?

Re: Recruiting
Most D3 can help with admissions with some exceptions. MIT comes to mind as a school that can’t help at all. I’m sure there are others.
Re: Recruiting
My D24 is going to a high academic. She did a pre-read last summer and got the green light from admissions. Applied early decision and was accepted. I got the distinct impression that the coach had influence with admissions. She had good test scores and grades, but the admissions process is crazy, so it was nice to have some help.Bluecollar wrote: ↑Thu May 23, 2024 12:59 pm Hey Folks,

Re: Recruiting
It depends on the school and conference. In the NECAC coaches do have the ability to support players. For most it has usually been 3 players per year. Ivies on the other hand are usually 7-9 (the whole recruiting class).Bluecollar wrote: ↑Thu May 23, 2024 12:59 pm Hey Folks,

Re: Recruiting
It is my general impression that if you do not play meaningful minutes as a freshman, you are unlikely to play meaningful minutes later in your career. What are other people's impressions? Does it make a difference if you play attack, midfield, or defense? Any one playing championship weekend that did not play meaningful minutes as a freshman / sophomore?Does anyone know a breakdown of playing minutes by class per school. An example, NW has played 17 games this year for a total of 1020 minutes for the team and a total of 12240 minutes combined for a 12 woman roster. What percentage of those minutes were played by freshman/sophmores/jr/sr/grad. Love to be able to understand which coaches play younger talent vs upper class/grad to help with future decisions and help the recruits understand generalized playing expectations. Good luck mathletes.
8-10 recruits per year. 4-5 play and 4-5 rarely see the field. 16-20 play per game (4-5 per grad year). It might be even smaller now at the D1 level due to the transfer portal. Coaches do not want to lose half their starters in one year, so they spread playing time out over multiple classes. This avoids a "rebuilding" year. It seems to hold true at the D3 level.
Re: Recruiting
I'd say if you aren't at least in the rotation by sophomore year, then it is unlikely you ever will be, at least in top programs that continue to bring in top talent. Exceptions are one-player positions like goalie and draw specialist.westcoastlax wrote: ↑Thu May 23, 2024 3:14 pmIt is my general impression that if you do not play meaningful minutes as a freshman, you are unlikely to play meaningful minutes later in your career. At top programs it is very rare for any freshman to make an impact. But it is also rare for a girl to see the field for the first time as a junior.

Re: Recruiting
There is a range. If the coach has been in his/her position for a few years, they are likely familiar with what they can do. Someone else mentioned MIT. They do a pre read like most other schools, but the level of confidence even after a positive read is much lower (about 50%).Bluecollar wrote: ↑Thu May 23, 2024 12:59 pm Hey Folks,

If you are offered an academic read, go for it. If it is positive, ask very clearly what your likelihood of admission is, what level of support the coach has and what level is being given to you, and what issues could create a problem going forward.
Some schools also provide a fin aid estimate during this pre read process.

Re: Recruiting
In the past these selections have not been a great indicator of success getting significant playing time in college.
Re: Recruiting
That's just silly. Have you actually looked at the rosters? A very high portion of the 2020/2021/2022 senior teams have played significant roles on their teams. Quite of the few of the 2023s had very productive freshman years. These 3 classes in particular were really hurt by all the covid years but the senior AA team players are mostly doing quite well.

Re: Recruiting
Great indicator, no. Good indicator, probably.
I’ve never done it, but if you look at playing time of AA senior selections versus top 100 non selected, I would think the selections, on the margin, get more play time.
But that’s just a hypothesis.
Re: Recruiting
Just an example below. The narrative is always going to be that the wrong girls are picked for these games, but for the most part they get it right. Sure girls are missed that are great in college, but it's just not true that most the girls selected don't contribute greatly to their college teams.Womenslaxxfan wrote: ↑Fri May 31, 2024 4:31 pmGreat indicator, no. Re: Recruiting
I don’t know if they still have hardcopy programs, but at least the last time I went to the game, which was a couple of years ago, they had them. Take a look in the back and flip through the names of alumni who played in the game in the past (since inception in 2006). It is a veritable who’s who of the great college players. In fact, I daresay that it would be very difficult to find the name of a college superstar who didn’t play in the Under Armour senior game.
Re: Recruiting
Back to the list. Jersey only got two players this year. Seems low, but what can you do. I think one year we got nine players, which was our all-time high by a wide margin.

Re: Recruiting
Here’s a question that I am not sure anyone has had experience with. My daughter has been getting hits on her still active sports recruit page the last week. Two top 30 teams multiple times. She’s been committed since September. Is this normal? She hits Live Love Lax next weekend for the start of the final tournaments (thank god). I have heard comments in the past that it happens depending on the sliminess of the coach. Has this happened to anyone?
Re: Recruiting
Not a big deal for profile views. Some coaches just go through all of their saved players. Now if they are looking at videos, then that it something else.LaxGnome22 wrote: ↑Fri May 31, 2024 8:48 pm Here’s a question that I am not sure anyone has had experience with.
