Yale v UVa - should VA bother showing up?
Re: Yale v UVa - should VA bother showing up?
A dominant FOGO allowed Yale to put the game out of reach in a quarter Saturday. Is it possible that a goalie could make the difference tomorrow?
Re: Yale v UVa - should VA bother showing up?
Appears that there may be a thunderstorm in Philly tomorrow morning but things should clear up in time for the formality preceding the coronation.

TWEEEEEET! GSP (and DMac, though, DMac, I fully understand why you'd say what you said), let's stick to discussing the games, players, teams, lacrosse-related issues, etc. and not the people who are discussing the games, players, teams, etc. TWEEEEEET! Play on...
Re: Yale v UVa - should VA bother showing up?
There was a point during the game when it was 10-1 and I literally couldn't close my mouth. Just dumbfounded. Face-off, goal. face-off, goal. face-off, goal... Your post reminded me of this. Just amazing...

i guess we'll just say i don't get where you're coming from. that's ok, too.TheBigIguana wrote: ↑Sun May 26, 2019 3:25 pmThe one goal game thing was more about record than number played. UVA 7-1 Penn 4-3 Yale 3-3. Who is the outlier? It's a small sample but this is a basic sports statistics thing. Close games tend to even out to around .500 so a team being 7-1 points mostly to luck. Not that UVA isnt a bad team but if they lose 2 of those OT games they probably aren't playing RoMo in round 1. The whole dynamic changes. Fortune has definitely smiled on them and they get a chance to win the title as a result. No shame in it.wgdsr wrote: ↑Sun May 26, 2019 1:03 pm fair enough. the break in my post was then addressing thoughts from other guys (and not the 1st comments on the matter).
tomato, tomato. some of the points you bring up... had me pull up their schedules. yale played in 6 one goal games. penn in 7, and 2 other 2 goal games. that's a lot of close games. one penn game that wasn't close was against duke, where they lost 7 to 17.
as far as complete teams, uva has some solid units, imo, on both sides of the field. yale, who is left, seems like they get more tilt from their faceoff. not a typical yale d and to me they have more questions there than virginia does.
there may be more guys on yale that pop a goal in tomorrow.
we've all been fortunate to see a great tournament so far. love to see more of the same monday.
virginia has won 15 of their last 16 games. if they lost 2 of those ot games, they'd be playing notre dame? hopkins? there's more than a good chance they would've been just fine... had that happened. to say they are lucky to be in the nc$$ championship game i find... amusing.
there is something that makes a typical 2019 uva comeback unlikely. namely, if they come up against it with the clock... don't think they'll be playing make it-take it. but i also like the offense and defense matchups @ each end better for the hoos than the last couple games. should be a great day for lacrosse.

Love how only the last blown call is the only one that counts. If the refs had caught Bernhardt’s foot clearly stepping in the crease on the early Maryland score, maybe Virginia wins by 2. You people really need to give it up.lefty1 wrote: ↑Sun May 26, 2019 6:39 pmDuke was also ranked #2, for some reason.
Meanwhile, one could argue Maryland could very easily be playing tomorrow against Yale. A blown call sorta crushed the spirits of those Maryland seniors and although we chat at length about Yale, Penn was phenomenal as well.
Would have loved to have seen a PSU/Penn game.

Or the missed offsides called on UVA's 4th goal?blue angels wrote: ↑Sun May 26, 2019 11:43 pmLove how only the last blown call is the only one that counts. c'mon, man. the one 15 yards behind the play on the far side, with the official racing to gle? sure, that always gets called.Wheels wrote: ↑Sun May 26, 2019 11:54 pmOr the missed offsides called on UVA's 4th goal?blue angels wrote: ↑Sun May 26, 2019 11:43 pmLove how only the last blown call is the only one that counts. dubick stepping on the crease while coming around for a feed late in the 3rd? does that one count, too? we could do this all day. refs miss calls. the last one was bad, but teams have been hosed much worse throughout a game, getting the brunt of most missed calls. that wasn't the case for umd.

I don't have any favorite in today's championship but I do appreciate both teams style of play. It's good for the game and it's fun for fans.
Re: Yale v UVa - should VA bother showing up?
Lars versus Shay, a rivalry renewed. I'm pretty sure Lars' Bruno squad edged Yale by two goals in Providence the last time these two coaches went head-to-head (the year Molloy won the Tewey). Interesting to see UVa play under Lars (some things in common with those Brown teams, but not as much as I'd initially expected). Oh, and isn't it ironic that a UVa supporter included the "should VA bother showing up?" subtitle to this link? I would expect Shay's men to play with their customary intensity, and Lars' men to show up and give it their all.
Re: Yale v UVa - should VA bother showing up?
No doubt tongue in cheek/sarcasm coming from a long time, hard core, and generally pretty classy, UVa fan who was/is a little sick of hearing all the reasons why the Cavaliers shouldn't be there. The pipe shot goal might be the worst call I've ever seen but it's hardly the reason why Virginia won. Can't say as I blame Mr. 'sheed for throwing the little dig in there.

Re: Yale v UVa - should VA bother showing up?
I was surprised to hear Lars' interview where he said Brown '16 was more talented. Not at midfield for sure. Yes in goal, startig LSM, f/o (Gural had > 10 goals on the year, and big ones). Brown's attack had Molloy and better overall numbers, but not the athleticism of UVa's. Close D Tullet > any Wahoo but overall ~=. Athletic depth UVa, but scoring depth Bruno.
And if Brown played a UVa schedule what would the numbers have looked like?
OK now that I put my thoughts on 'paper' maybe not that surprising. And the Bears were all in and on script with the system in year 2.

Re: Yale v UVa - should VA bother showing up?
UVA doesn't have the talent at the poles like Brown '16...or a Dylan Molloy

Today probably isn't the day for them to try to comeback. And I don't mean to say UVA isnt good when I say they have had luck. Yale has had luck too. But I just think UVA has had a healthier amount than most teams ever have. I mean they didn't even actually score a tying goal against MD.wgdsr wrote: ↑Sun May 26, 2019 11:06 pmi guess we'll just say i don't get where you're coming from. that's ok, too.TheBigIguana wrote: ↑Sun May 26, 2019 3:25 pmThe one goal game thing was more about record than number played. Remember the penalty UMd instigated late vs UNC? They did the same late in the semifinal, got a penalty on Tullet. Tillman all-class. Half-kidding

When has an opening face-off had more meaning in a National C'ship?
