Surprised to see Balsamo in the portal. He hit the sophomore slump, but I thought he was primed for a lot more meaningful minutes next year. A program will be lucky to grab him, he's a competitor.

Re: Transfer Portal 2025
Who knows what's really going on behind the scenes but I will say it's unusual for a contender like Duke to lose a contributor like Balsamo with multiple years of eligibility left. Not like he's a grad student seeking a specific program elsewhere. Also not like it's Chris Gray at BU wanting to go play for a contender. Just doesn't 'happen very often. This is a guy who already plays, for a team that's already good, and was going to be needed next year with them losing their top three scorers and four of their top five. If Duke had any lacrosse fans, they'd probably be worried. Imagine if the equivalent happened at Hopkins, Cuse, Maryland, Virginia, or Cornell.nyjay wrote: ↑Wed May 29, 2024 3:58 pmThat would make sense. Interesting rumor for sure. Balsamo is a good player but the 1st line maybe tough to crack (if he does end up at Cuse) with the entire 1st line back, though Leo could get moved to attack.GaitsRightHand wrote: ↑Wed May 29, 2024 3:56 pmI texted a buddy and he said "rumor is he wants to play with Leo and Spallina at Cuse"nyjay wrote: ↑Wed May 29, 2024 3:55 pmYes, very interesting and surprising. Lol, not to me. But, 20 year old college kids aren't always the best decision makers. I'm sure he asked Joey how much NIL he's getting... and then decided he'd like to pursue other options.
Long island buddies, NIL $$$, Change of scenery, maybe was tired of the Dinos? Lots of different factors can go into it.
As of right now, just a rumor going around the Island... Balsamo was also an attackman at Chaminade. Think he could flex at attack or mid. If this turns out being true.JeremyCuse wrote: ↑Wed May 29, 2024 4:10 pm Interesting rumor for sure. It's very rare especially under Danowski, I am struggling to come up with another example to be honest, at least one where they still had multiple years of eligibility left.HopFan16 wrote: ↑Wed May 29, 2024 4:06 pmWho knows what's really going on behind the scenes but I will say it's unusual for a contender like Duke to lose a contributor like Balsamo with multiple years of eligibility left. Agreed. I don't even hear about bench guys wanting to transfer out. Let alone a guy earning minutes. Oh certainly, I am sure multiple schools will be interested, seems like a good fit for Hop, Maryland and G-town just to name a few. I believe SU recruited him out of HS originally under Desko so March likely knows him fairly well. Certainly would be a pretty big pickup for pretty much anyone.GaitsRightHand wrote: ↑Wed May 29, 2024 4:15 pmLol, not to me. But, 20 year old college kids aren't always the best decision makers. Re: Transfer Portal 2025
He certainly lost starting opportunities/playing time and shots to Sloat and Johnston. As a freshman he started 18 games - took 61 shots and produced 31 poimts. As a sophomore he only started 3 games - played in all 19 - and saw his shot total decrease by more than half - down to 28 whilest Sloat and Johnston basically got to play Balsamo's freshmen season - starting 16 games - each taking 63 shots and producing close to 30 points. It's not exactly turmoil but I might think if you hooked him up to a polygraph he might not have been entirely in agreement with playing decisions.HopFan16 wrote: ↑Wed May 29, 2024 4:06 pm Who knows what's really going on behind the scenes but I will say it's unusual for a contender like Duke to lose a contributor like Balsamo with multiple years of eligibility left. You would think, however, if Cuse is where he might like to be - offensive playing time is in more plentiful supply at Duke
Re: Transfer Portal 2025
Well if you look at Duke last 4 or 5 years they like to play 5 star freshman over 5 star juniors strange.JeremyCuse wrote: ↑Wed May 29, 2024 4:15 pmIt's very rare especially under Danowski, I am struggling to come up with another example to be honest, at least one where they still had multiple years of eligibility left.HopFan16 wrote: ↑Wed May 29, 2024 4:06 pmWho knows what's really going on behind the scenes but I will say it's unusual for a contender like Duke to lose a contributor like Balsamo with multiple years of eligibility left.
