Another big key could be whether the refs call the game fairly tightly. UVA plays an aggressive style of defense and has a hyper-aggressive ride, so there's a possibility that fouls on UVA could be something that helps Maryland even things up (EMO goals were a key reason that Hop had such a good chance to emerge with the win in the prior round). Of course, as we all know, regardless of tendencies there's always the possibility that an amped out guy trying to close out on a shooter or create a turnover can foul (and maybe even the non-releasable variety).

UVA's EMO has been much more productive than Maryland's, although Maryland's is solid: UVA converts at the scorching rate of 57% on EMO (with Shelley and Cormier, no surprise!) and Maryland is closer to 40%.

Both UVA and Maryland also allow opponents to convert on EMO at over 50%, although Maryland draws fewer penalties (probably because they don't ride aggressively generally); that 50% opponent conversion rate on EMO might also be a bit high because it's a season-long number and the UVA starting goalie struggled at some stretches (I'm assuming Morris will play this weekend) and McNaney returning from injury has become more dialled in as the season has continued.

My view has always been that come tournament time, the refs back off significantly when calling penalties. Good example was last week at the end of the game or first OT (can't recall which) when Kastner had a clear cross check to the head of the Hopkins player who had the ball...no call, yet that call is made 100% of the time in the regular season.

I don't know if the refs are nervous about calling the wrong penalty under the glare of the spotlight, or maybe it's the NCAA itself that instructs them to lay off the whistle. Either way, overly aggressive players get away with far more over Memorial Day weekend...this is a net positive for UVA, who otherwise might spend a fair amount of time man-down.

I just couldn’t bet this game. The problem is both UVA and Maryland are unpredictable for different reasons.

My brain says UVA covers the 2.5. My problem with them is they’ve got a goalie issue right now. Whichever guy starts will know full well he’s on a tight leash. I’d have more faith in whoever substitutes.

Maryland is so reliant on Weirman, any 50% or less day and I think they’re cooked. And Ghobriel is really good.

Impossible to get this one. Staying away.

Terps have the advantage in FO, Goal, Coaching, and Defense.

3 of 11 shots on cage isn’t a “goalie” advantage it’s just bad shooting. Making it too easy.

Uva's offense: One on one hero ball or jam to Cormier.

Maryland offense: Find the open man in all situations. Be patient. Push transition.

Funny, Lars just said it.. extra step on those dodges from behind, even Shelly’s first goal was shot too early

That goal was telegraphed. Could see it coming. Horrible defense.

Imagine thinking you have an equivalent to McNamey with a back-up in this game. Not surprised.
