Slightly off topic does anyone know if Betty Nelson is injured? Was looking for her to be a breakout freshman this season...

I’m not sure right now, she is always in uniform mostly. Early in the season, she never cracked the GK battle and now Harrison looking better than Nicholas, I think she just isn’t trusted yet.laxinallthetime wrote: ↑Thu Apr 18, 2024 3:43 pm Slightly off topic does anyone know if Betty Nelson is injured? Yet USA lacrosse magazine had Taylor in second team.

Once again defenders get screwed! You can’t tell me there isn’t one defender that deserves to be on this list.njbill wrote: ↑Thu May 09, 2024 4:15 pm Finalists announced:

Re: 2024 Women’s Tewaaraton Watch List
Sad that Spallina gets away with calling Masera an attacker. It is misrepresentation and a lie. She never crosses the restraining line. Go watch any recent games like vs. Stanford. Her caused turnovers tells you what position she plays. Certainly no role on defense. Perhaps she made it as an attacker. Boyle is a 2 way middy so good for her.Madlax59 wrote: ↑Thu May 09, 2024 4:46 pmHuh, thought Masera was predominantly an attacker....njbill wrote: ↑Thu May 09, 2024 4:15 pm Finalists announced:

Easier to win awards as a middle than an attacker, too many good attackers. Sad part is she might have gotten Tewey 5 as an attacker, But as a middle she can get all the accolades...much easier...Joe is smartLax101 wrote: ↑Thu May 09, 2024 5:07 pmSad that Spallina gets away with calling Masera an attacker. Also I always wondered - does committee just look at stats and social media hype? Do they watch any actual games or just highlights?

Re: 2024 Women’s Tewaaraton Watch List
That's straight up lying. Calling a player that takes the draw and plays offense a midfielder is a complete falsification. I feel like a defender who takes the draw (or defenders in general) are more like midfielders. There are some very talented true midfielders that are overlooked. It's insulting to player to label her something that she is not. Nothing wrong with being an attacker.Lax101 wrote: ↑Thu May 09, 2024 8:07 pmSmart is not the word I would use in this case.Madlax59 wrote: ↑Thu May 09, 2024 5:15 pmEasier to win awards as a middle than an attacker, too many good attackers. Re: 2024 Women’s Tewaaraton Watch List
I’m not understanding the significance of the classification or misclassification of a player as a midfielder if she primarily or even exclusively plays attack. What does that have to do with her being named by the committee as a finalist? Certainly they focused on her play on the field and not whether there is an A or an M by her name on the roster.
Re: 2024 Women’s Tewaaraton Watch List
The significance is in the past few years there has been a marked increase in attackers being top 5 or winning the award. Im sure one of the criteria the committee looks at are stats. If you are labeled a middle but really play as an attack you will put up different numbers.njbill wrote: ↑Thu May 09, 2024 9:02 pm I’m not understanding the significance of the classification or misclassification of a player as a midfielder if she primarily or even exclusively plays attack. When it comes to awards like MOY shouldn't a true midfielder win it? First team AA, etc., same thing.
Masera is a very good player. Really good in draw circle. But if you are playing 95% time as an attacker thats how you should be classified. IMO
Re: 2024 Women’s Tewaaraton Watch List
I understand why the classification may make a difference for All American lists where there are limitations on the number of slots per position, but I don’t see how the classification (or misclassification if you will) impacts the Tewaaraton. I think the committee would have named Masera a finalist even if she was designated as an attacker.
Not directly on point, but I see hundreds of classifications of high school players each year: defender, attacker, draw specialist, goalie, midfielder, etc. Lots of players include midfielder in their designations. I think everybody understands that that goes on, and no one pays much mind to it. I certainly don’t.
