Hired and fired HCs since don't seem to make a difference. Navy just doesn't have a killer instinct. Goes deeper than coaching. And not just in lax.
Not necessarily. I wouldn’t call making it to within a goal of the final four in 2016 uncompetitive. You can group both Navy and Army together in that statement. They’ve been about the same from that year in 2004 and onward. That’s just being realistic nowadays, nothing to do with a killer instinct.

Frustrating part for Navy is they are trending in the wrong direction. Ever since 2016 - it hasn’t been working.
Come on man Army has be consistently in top 15 , Navy not even close, maybe that beautiful town in Annapolis helps you recruit but also hurts you when they get there.

Yes recently they have been. But hard to argue they’ve been better consistently since 2004 which I was responding about. But the last few years, of course.

And they managed to squander the “best team in Army history” from somehow going from ranked 1 in the country to not making the tourney. Pretty big disappointment.

Navy at least managed to get an at large in 2016.

I agree, is that you RW? 😉

Well, let's see where they go from here with Amplo. They did win a conference tournament game for the first time since 2010 and get to the semis.

That’s not some amazing accomplishment. We hosted the semis in 2015 and 2016.

And lost in the semis both years as the #1 seed by 4 and 6 goals.

I know. That wasn’t the point. The point was that by getting a bye you practically won a quarterfinal game by having a better season. Which Navy has yet to do by earning the bye.

And the 16 team made the NCAA tournament as an at large. So didn’t matter.

I will ask this now. And this will be my first statement I make in the Navy 2025 thread.

Has Amplo, in-terms of figures of speech, "hit his ceiling" in-terms of how high he can take Navy Lacrosse? If he hasn't, he needs to prove that very soon.

Your point was not clear. Getting a bye is not winning a game.

But which is better - winning a game to earn a semifinal berth or losing your first tournament game after earning the right to host the semis and finals (twice)?

Definitely losing as the host in the semifinals is better than losing in the semifinals after winning the quarterfinal.

Since Navy was host, it meant their overall season was successful enough to make the tournament as an at large.

In 2016, it was a really exciting selection weekend for Navy fans. It was hugely disappointing, as the #1 PLT seed at home, to lose to Army.

In that selection weekend, It was fun on LaxPower, watching the numbers shift as so many other bubble teams lost on that final weekend.

Going into that final Sat/Sun, Navy was on the outside looking in. In the final analysis, Navy's season opener W over AF was the difference maker as AF sneaked into the Top 20 RPI that final weekend, making it a Quality Win for Navy. That year, W's over Loyola, Army & AF all counted as QW's. Having JHU & MD on the sched boosted the SoS.

If we're going to keep scheduling ooc opponents like JHU, Penn St, Towson & Villanova this year, we need to get at least 2 Top 20 QW's out of that bunch to compete for an at-large bid.

Anyone heard anything about who Amplo is looking at for the OC spot?
