Johns Hopkins 2024
Re: Johns Hopkins 2024
I'll say again. Maybe don't put 60 kids on a bus for 7 hours the day before the Big Ten semis......Unacceptable. What other top 10 D1 program would do that?

Except when it was necessary to keep his job.DocBarrister wrote: ↑Fri May 03, 2024 12:05 amWell, truth be told, Petro’s North Carolina defense averaged 8.57 caused turnovers per game this season. I believe that is more than any of his Hopkins defenses.CU77 wrote: ↑Thu May 02, 2024 11:16 pmLOL! Petro was too clueless to know what his current team needed to do to make the ACC tourney.Lacrossefan25 wrote: ↑Thu May 02, 2024 10:30 pm Funny how we have the coach of the year in the big ten and he can’t win the big game. Man I miss petro
Petro can adapt.

Re: Johns Hopkins 2024
Not much to add - can't beat anybody taking 25 shots - shoot 50% and you still only score 12. It was almost an exact replay of the Navy game. Go up 6-1 think its too easy - get punched back in the mouth - fail to respond. Haven't seen 17 turnovers in a while I would imagine. Maybe its a good reminder but that offense won't do pig.
Re: Johns Hopkins 2024
I thought they learned that lesson years ago. Maybe the well heeled alums could open their wallets for a flight or two.
Re: Johns Hopkins 2024
Michigan was well on its way to 50 shots (ended with 48 shots holding the ball the last couple minutes). It was ugly.. Hopkins won at Goalie and the X. 17 turnovers erased that advantage51percentcorn wrote: ↑Fri May 03, 2024 8:48 am Not much to add - can't beat anybody taking 25 shots - shoot 50% and you still only score 12. Looks like Lax Reference updated his stats,
he's got Hopkins at #3 RPI as of this morning.

Re: Johns Hopkins 2024
The women flew to Northwestern but are currently in the middle of a 12 hour bus drive back over 2 days with an overnight stop in Akron. It's ridiculous. Hopkins only has 2 D1 programs. Treat them like D1 athletes.

Did not know this about Hopkins. That needs to change.
Re: Johns Hopkins 2024
I was told the Hopkin's AD has asked the Big 10 for additional money due to expansion. She basically said they can not afford to fly the women's lax program out to the west coast, as they do not get the pay out as the rest of their conference mates. Problem is Hopkins does not have a D1 budget. Its mostly a D3 budget.hmmm wrote: ↑Fri May 03, 2024 9:08 amThe women flew to Northwestern but are currently in the middle of a 12 hour bus drive back over 2 days with an overnight stop in Akron. Re: Johns Hopkins 2024
Can a southwest flight from Detroit for the whole team really cost that much more than a 2 day bus ride and hotels for a 42 player roster and coaching staff?coda wrote: ↑Fri May 03, 2024 9:24 amI was told the Hopkin's AD has asked the Big 10 for additional money due to expansion. Not sure how easy it is to get 50 tickets on Southwest.hmmm wrote: ↑Fri May 03, 2024 9:32 amCan a southwest flight from Detroit for the whole team really cost that much more than a 2 day bus ride and hotels for a 42 player roster and coaching staff?coda wrote: ↑Fri May 03, 2024 9:24 amI was told the Hopkin's AD has asked the Big 10 for additional money due to expansion. The MD men were at the airport with the Hopkins women on Wednesday. MD flew. Obviously didn't help their performance.

Michigan dominated 1 on 1 matchups all over the field tonight.steel_hop wrote: ↑Thu May 02, 2024 10:26 pmThe big question is it is basically the same guys outside of English and Kramf and the team is averaging at least 1.5 goals less a game. Finally making an account to say… fire Crawley for the love of god.
Week after week he gives another example of why he needs to be replaced. We are not struggling for sharp shooters or dodgers on offense, we are desperately struggling on coordination and execution on offense. OC needs to go.
Forget the 10 goals allowed. It is the 1 goal in 3 quarters that lost us that game. Crawley does not have it and needs to be replaced.
The other issue is this team has very little killer instinct. It doesn't want to destroy teams. If ND was up 6-1 on Michigan that game is over. Hopkins has now lost 2 games this season up 6-1 in the 2nd quarter.
The team certainly doesn't know how to play when it is the big favorite and teams are gunning for them. That is a coaching and lockerroom ssue.

I had a look at projected goals for Hopkin's games this year based on the my model..steel_hop wrote: ↑Fri May 03, 2024 9:49 amStephenBaldwin wrote: ↑Thu May 02, 2024 10:33 pmHopkins does not have a Pat or Chris Kavanagh. 5 Feb games: +4 goals or +.8 per game
5 March games- +6.5 or 1.3 per game
From 4/6 - 5/2 -10.2 (4 games) or -2.56 per game
this is adjusted for opponents defensive strength, so I think it is fair to say something has gone very wrong in over the last 4 games offensively. They had one game in the last 4 that Hopkins offense outperformed (that was by +0.3 vs Ohio State)..
Here is the full results
3-Feb Denver 1.3
2/6/2024 Towson 0.9
2/10/2024 Georgetown 0.3
2/17/2024 Loyola -0.1
2/24/2024 North Carolina 1.7
3/2/2024 Virginia 4.7
3/9/2024 Syracuse 2.4
3/15/2024 Navy -3.9
3/24/2024 Rutgers 1.0
3/30/2024 Michigan 2.3
4/6/2024 Penn State -1.5
4/14/2024 Ohio State 0.3
4/20/2024 Maryland -3.5
5/2/2024 Michigan -5.5
you can see the last couple games are basically What the heck.

The good news—if Jays make it that far—they won’t have to fly to Towson.

And the bigger problem is that no current BiG member is gonna voluntarily take less money so Hop can get a travel budget to the conf tourney. Re: Johns Hopkins 2024
It is my understanding that the conference does provide some money for travel for the tournament. Now it may only be for hotels/food and not flights, but they are subsidized for part of it.coda wrote: ↑Fri May 03, 2024 11:06 amthe number I heard was below 1 million, so it is basically an odd lot..Big Dog wrote: ↑Fri May 03, 2024 11:02 amAnd the bigger problem is that no current BiG member is gonna voluntarily take less money so Hop can get a travel budget to the conf tourney. This was general travel and in response to Big 10 adding schools like Oregon and USC.hmmm wrote: ↑Fri May 03, 2024 11:49 amIt is my understanding that the conference does provide some money for travel for the tournament.
