The issue was scrutinized in 2022 when undefeated Maryland played the late game in the semis. It was made bigger when the early Cornell-Rutgers game was repeatedly delayed by lightning. Maryland overcame the "issue"and won on Monday.Gobigred wrote: ↑Thu May 02, 2024 4:27 pmTillman was squawking about playing the late game when Maryland was often the #1 seed.drunkmonkey30 wrote: ↑Thu May 02, 2024 11:44 amPerhaps I'm making it up, but a swear that Q&K spent a lot of time talking about what an advantage it is to play the first game. Re: Cornell 2024
Potential bid stealers winning this evening - Villanova and Michigan. Not good. This is why I don't like these tournaments. Teams like Denver and JHU laying an egg in early May only cost bubble teams bids, not themselves.
Re: Cornell 2024
Last second tying goal for Denver waved off...crease violation.
Hop going down 10-7 with 2 min left.

Re: Cornell 2024
Denver screwing Cornell twice this season now.
Re: Cornell 2024
Just like our hockey team took care of business in Lake Placid, we need to take care of business in Ithaca so that any bid stealers become someone else’s problem.
Re: Cornell 2024
No, I still think a W in the semis puts us safely in, and a L still isn’t completely fatal. Should root for Georgetown and anyone but Michigan in those tournaments now.

That storm during the semi game was responsible for a tremendous (yet unexpected) mid game tailgate for many!

Denver lost but still will be in. Better if Georgetown loses now (down now 11-9 to Providence) so if Big Red fails to deliver tomorrow Georgetown would still be behind us for At Large.
Re: Cornell 2024
I'm still not sure about this. Before today's games, Big East had 1 definite lock (Denver) and one bubble team (Georgetown). If Georgetown loses, they have 2 definite locks (Denver + AQ) plus Georgetown still on the bubble (though I admit a Providence loss dings their resume significantly).

Re: Cornell 2024
@ Inside Lacrosse, game is tied in Q4.
Maryland is losing big to PSU: 7 to 16 in Q4.
According to NC$$, MD ranks 7 in RPI, and Cornell ranks 9. I don't know if a MD loss to PSU will put them behind us, but I bet we still have to beat Penn to pass MD.

Re: Cornell 2024
GT was #11 in RPI, and Prov. was 36. I'm not sure how much this victory raises GT's RPI. (But the game might cause Prov's coach to move across town -- see the Brown 2024 discussion.)
Since Denver lost, the BE will likely be a 2-bid conference: the AQ & Denver.
If we're lucky, the B10 will be at most a 3-bid conference: the AQ (either PSU or Michigan -- let's hope it's PSU), JHU, and perhaps MD. If Michigan is the AQ, add PSU & JHU and maybe MD, depending on how we do this weekend.
Just win, baby!

Re: Cornell 2024
Now if Villanova wins AQ is it possible for BE to take three spots when today began it was thought only one. Could Georgetown beat out Cornell with 1-1 BE tourney record vs. Cornell 0-1. Georgetown's 1-1 vs. two > 20 ranked teams not too impressive vs. Cornell 0-1 against 16th ranked Penn so perhaps not.

Re: Cornell 2024
Villinova was #22 in RPI. I'm not sure how much the win over DU will raise it. But if GT > V, I don't think V gets in. OTOH, if V > GT, then GT's RPI will drop, and if we lose to Penn, I think we still beat GT by the skin of our teeth.CU 73 wrote: ↑Thu May 02, 2024 11:04 pm Now if Villanova wins AQ is it possible for BE to take three spots when today began it was thought only one. Last time out, GT beat Vill 12-4. GT has 2 impressive wins: Penn & ND. We have 3: Yale, Pr, & Syracuse. We both lost to DU.
