2024 top 20
Re: 2024 top 20
Too many folks focused on 'best win'. With UVA, their losses - many of them close - are to the top four ranked teams (as another poster pointed out). They are a very good team, flawed (like most), and nobody will want to face them in tourney. Who, and how, you lose is as important to me as wins.
Tough to compare teams. as on example, Watched Cornell play super well (and take advantage of worst ND D performance in years) to push ND to limits. Equally, lose by 11 to PSU? Regardless of seeding, this tourney will be chaotic.

Re: 2024 top 20
Maybe "the worst ND performance in years" was caused in a substantive way by its opponent. This over-the-top worship of ACC teams grows old.NYlax222 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 29, 2024 2:37 am Too many folks focused on 'best win'. I personally thought that was Cornell’s game and ND was fortunate to pull it out,
my money right now is on an ND Cornell Final.

Re: 2024 top 20
Agreed, but they have one single quality win.
If they lose to ND in the first round of the ACCs, they'll have beaten Maryland and...UNC? Ohio State? Michigan (actually a good, though not great, win).
Curious if the committee looks past the RPI (and the pedigree) and has the balls to leave them out. Sure, no bad losses, and they have the Maryland win, but is that enough to get them in? If so, they're this years Hopkins, in because of SoS more than anything else.
Re: 2024 top 20
I think everyone gets that. The issue would be 4 straight losses. I have a hard time saying anyone that ends the season with 4 straight losses deserves to be in the tournament. They have end up beating 1 tournament team in Maryland. Committee may feel difference, but they may have 1 win vs a tournament team in Maryland and 4 straight losses doesnt scream tournament team to meNYlax222 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 29, 2024 2:37 am Too many folks focused on 'best win'. The People's Lacrosse Network (who obviously don't read Joe Willie) have Cornell at #13 behind Towson and Yale ... Both Towson and Yale are great squads. Quite a year of party.
Re: 2024 top 20
My model has Cornell at 8 and Yale at 11. My model can not factor in the injuries at Yale right now. Personally, I think they are back half of the 20 type team currently. That will change if they get their FOGO back, but nobody knows how that will shake out.faircornell wrote: ↑Mon Apr 29, 2024 8:58 am The People's Lacrosse Network (who obviously don't read Joe Willie) have Cornell at #13 behind Towson and Yale ... Re: 2024 top 20
Denver at #4 seems like a stretch. They aren’t beating anyone in the top 10 in May.
Re: 2024 top 20
How does UVA sit @ #5 with three straight losses?
These polls are such jokes, remember that Army was #1 for two weeks in a row and now sit @ #11...

I think this has it correct. Tough year to grade. I have a feeling ND won’t win the Natty.
Re: 2024 top 20
My model has UVA #4. Massey has them #2. RPI has them #6. I can say if the futures market has UVA outside the top 5 to win the tournament. I am a buyer. That said I also dont think they deserve an at-large, if they lose 4 straight. Uva is really hard to rank currently.
Duke is another one. Obviously a legit NC contender, but with a propensity to randomly not show up for a game once a month. I do not know how to quantify that.

Re: 2024 top 20
Cornell loses to ND by 1 and beats Syracuse and barely moves. UVA loses to ND and Syracuse and solidifies its at large resume.
Re: 2024 top 20
I'm not sure if that's a jab at ND, or a statement reflecting how difficult it is to repeat as national champions. It's been ten years since anyone has done it, and there are lots of really good teams at the top of the poll.

Re: 2024 top 20
Sadly, losses don't count towards anything. I really like Cornell, but this ranking makes sense to me.
Outside of #3 Cuse, Cornell doesn't have a top 10 win. Wins over #12 Princeton and #13 Yale.
Losses to #1 ND, #4 Denver, #9 Penn State, and #16 Penn.
I'd put Penn State above Cornell tbh.

I agree with your statement, and odds are he’s probably not wrong, my comment was made in good fun. This commenter just salivates over ND losing and it cracks me up.
Also UVA technically went back to back in ‘19 and ‘21, though that gets an asterisk.
