Judging by the noted temper tantrums on the Stevenson sideline, I would imagine what took place was quite different than what was planned or intended.Asgot wrote: ↑Fri Apr 19, 2024 11:42 amI don't know if "throw" is the right word but maybe just play very vanilla and not show York anything new prior to the MAC finals and then show the new wrinkles in the finals. Both coaches have to know that their only way in is to win the MAC and Maybe York showed their hand while Stevenson kept it closer to the vest. That would be some 3-D chess if it were the case.Laxattackjack wrote: ↑Thu Apr 18, 2024 12:29 pm couple of thoughts from last night.
york offense sticking with the same three at attack for the last few games and each week we see better results. 2,28,44 combined for 9 goals and 6 assists. if this continues, York will make some noise in May
did stevenson intentionally throw last nights game, hoping to catch York off guard in the MAC championship ( the game that really matters)
does stevenson coach think his temper tantrums on the sidelines are helping his team?

Important game for the Spartans today. Do they come out on fire offensively like they did against Stevenson or will it be another sluggish start for the boys

Re: York 2024
It was a wild game.
York scored the most goals they have all season. And Messiah’s potent attack unit really came to play. Kudos to them, as I’ve said before, when they’re on they can score with anyone, and the coach has them believing they can win.
If Messiah shows up like that this Wednesday, they will be a really tough out for Stevenson.

If York shows up like that they could be in for an early exit

You think that one [person missing was the cause of 19 goals?Laxattackjack wrote: ↑Sun Apr 28, 2024 9:22 pmI doubt the top defender will miss the games this week. if the offense scores 21, they will continue to win for several games

the most goals scored on York was 17, (Salisbury)
in the 6 games vs top 10 teams, York averaged about 11 goals per game on defense. Messiah is not a top 10 team
In the first half of the Messiah game, 8 of the first 10 goals by Messiah were scored within 3-4 yds of the goal. so point blank. I am an offensive minded guy, but I know 8 point blank goals are result of a failed slide.
The last game was way out of the normal pattern of the past 16 games. Not saying one defensive player was the result of 19 goals, but I am saying that one defensive player being present, has shown a pattern of holding teams to an average of 1/2 of what they gave up Saturday

Obviously missing your top pole has an effect, I think York’s defense that did play is capable of doing better, and I think Messiah rolled out ready to win. Their 3 attackmen are 1, 2, and 3 in goals per game in the conference. In ALL of DIII, two of them are in the top 12 in goals per game, and the third is in the top 10 in assists per game. Is it possible that they performed closer to their ceiling in this game than they did in others vs tough competition? 100%. All these things can be true at once.
Messiah’s talent did a great job, found deficiencies and made it a game. If they carry that same momentum forward, maybe it will be Messiah in the championship game and not Stevenson.

You are correct. That said, their offense, particularly the Attack unit, as Deeppocket previously posted, is pretty potent.Laxattackjack wrote: ↑Mon Apr 29, 2024 8:25 amMessiah is not a top 10 teamAsgot wrote: ↑Mon Apr 29, 2024 7:17 amYou think that one [person missing was the cause of 19 goals?Laxattackjack wrote: ↑Sun Apr 28, 2024 9:22 pmI doubt the top defender will miss the games this week. if the offense scores 21, they will continue to win for several games

Re: York 2024
i don’t think i was saying messiah was bad. they played a great game. in fact, probably the best game all year. york defense played its worst game of the year. the opponents had something to do with that. but looking at the entire season, the results do seem unusual.
york has faced other teams that are stronger offensively, and held them to lower totals
messiah has faced weaker defenses then york in several games, and didn’t have the output.
that makes it seem like this game was more of an anomaly then the norm.
i am not suggesting messiah can’t score. but the likelihood of messiah putting up 19 against a defense like york again, is not a lock.
with that said, i wouldn’t be surprised to see a rematch with York and Messiah on Saturday.

Is no one going to even mention goaltending?
6 Saves on 25 Shots faced is 24%. Not many May Ws available with Save % sub 40%.
And 2 of those 6 were 18+ yards end of Qtr / end of Shot Clock gimme saves.

Wow. York loses to Eastern in a thriller. Did not see this coming. Hats off to Eastern for a great performance.

Pretty surprised by tonight. I imagine the season is over. It was a pretty tough season to gauge. There were some great losses but take out the Stevenson game and a few others to lesser opponents and the offense never really took off. We will see where they go from here. When was the last time they didn't make the tournament?
Re: York 2024
Shocking result. Watched Eastern up close. They have plenty of skilled players, but are far from elite. Feel for the Spartan faithful. What a dagger.
