Va is too explosive to think about stalling with that much time. Bad Coaching.

No. VA was offsides on one of their first half goals.. So two for VA and One for MD.random observer wrote: ↑Sat May 18, 2019 2:31 pmBingo. Frankly the offside and foot in the crease were nothing compared to the horrendous call at end. Should never have been called , or at least talked over with some discussion. Just the place ball bounced to should have given refs some doubt.
Re: D1 Men NCAA Tournament
Terrible call, but these things happen. Will be talked about extensively for a week (except for Terp fans who are likely to weave it into their we-got-screwed legacy tapestry for at least a decade) and then the final four will cause it to recede. UVA was going to retain possession with all the momentum in the world anyway. As a Yale fan it reminds me of the 1st round game in 2015 where Michael Kesey made what looked in replay like the game tying goal against the Terps just before time expired, but given no replay it didn't count giving Maryland the 8-7 victory. No reason for no-replay on pipes and crease calls, particularly in the tourney. Perhaps the upcoming week of discussion ad nauseum will cause it to happen.
Re: D1 Men NCAA Tournament
I whole heartedly agree that ref should never be allowed to ref another ncaa lacrosse game. That was just awful in every regard. You only make that call if you are right on the spot and absolutely certain. Just based on physics he should have known not to make that call. Awful.

I missed that one. So fair enough, MD is rightly pissed again.Chuckman wrote: ↑Sat May 18, 2019 2:42 pmNo. VA was offsides on one of their first half goals.. I think coaches are still playing a little bit, pre 2019, pre shot clock.Sativa Specialist wrote: ↑Sat May 18, 2019 2:39 pmExcellent point. Nadelen with Towson made the same mistake last week.
Coaches will learn.
You have to go to the goal.
You can’t just play the percentages and just air it out.
Please, though, no replay.
Just work with the refs more on how to distinguish a goal versus not a goal.

I’ve watched Tillman enough to understand, he’ll be kicking himself over that strategy.Sativa Specialist wrote: ↑Sat May 18, 2019 2:39 pmExcellent point. Maybe that's it but I'm stunned at the defenders that are out there of this horrible tactic.10stone5 wrote: ↑Sat May 18, 2019 2:45 pmI think coaches are still playing a little bit, pre 2019, pre shot clock.Sativa Specialist wrote: ↑Sat May 18, 2019 2:39 pmExcellent point. I'm a Maryland fan but that style of coaching leads to collapses like today.

Re: D1 Men NCAA Tournament
Regardless of the momentum of the game the referee cannot should not make a call of that magnitude unless completely certain he is right ! You cannot tell me that the referee was completely certain that was a goal based on how far it bounced out to nearly the midline! If it had hit net at all ball never would have travelled that distance ! The integrity of the game must be upheld and mistakes like the one ref made must have consequences In this case this referee should not ref another division 1 lax game ever again ! If D 2 or D 3 want him they can make that decision but we as fans should sign petition or phone calls etc make sure he out !!
Re: D1 Men NCAA Tournament
Stall ball in lacrosse is as dumb as the prevent defense in football. Puts everyone back on their heels while allowing the other team close to a 100% chance to grab the game's momentum.
Re: D1 Men NCAA Tournament
Tillman has stalled his way to the final four for years now. Why change now?
Re: D1 Men NCAA Tournament
Because of the shot clock.
Re: D1 Men NCAA Tournament
I was being sarcastic
Re: D1 Men NCAA Tournament
This. There is no physical process that could allow the ball to cross the plane, and then bounce out at the height of the crossbar and traveling straight out. My guess (and Quint's) is that the ref was fooled by the net fluttering (from the impact on the crossbar). But a goal simply cannot be scored with the ball traveling along that particular trajectory. (So sez this fan, who happens to have a PhD in physics.)

3 things:
1) heart breaks for Terps- outcome is stained because of phantom goal
2) Matt Moore is an AA
3) Ryan Conrad one of the top lacrosse players in the nation

Re: D1 Men NCAA Tournament
Even more of a joke call in UVA’s favor than the non-call on the obvious double dribble in the basketball tournament.

Re: D1 Men NCAA Tournament
That call would have been a lot more devastating if Maryland was the one making the furious rally and were the aggressors. But they stopped playing with 4 minutes to go and there is no doubt UVA would have tied it in the next 50 seconds (an eternity with the way play was going) anyways. Does not excuse the bafflingly awful call, but the outcome was imminent.
