Malvern is up 4-3 with a minute left before halftime
7-4 Malvern final
I know this is oversimplifying, but when St A’s raids most of the best players from Suffolk I don’t think they should ever score only 4 goals
Malvern is really good but as a fan of one of the programs raided, I strongly sympathize with the sentiment.

Looking like the class of all of Nassau
Sure do
7 to 4 final south side looked good all around

Saw a good bit of the game, impressed with South Side. I suppose they're now the favorites to win the power league at 4-0.
How would one learn about what, exactly, the “power league” is? Clearly the stronger teams are playing each other more this year than in the past. Apart from that does it have any implications for the playoffs/seeding? Teams still compete in their Classifications according to size, right?

The power league is:

Farmingdale
Massapequa
Port Washington
Syosset
Garden City
Manhasset
South Side
Wantagh
CSH

From what I understand, there will be promotion/relegation just like the girls have been doing for years, so the bottom team from this league will move down to league 2 while the champ of that league will move into the power league.

All the teams in the power league are guaranteed to get into the playoffs. The top seeds in each class will be from the power league. So league standings will determine the 1-4 seeds in A, 1-3 seeds in B. Wantagh is guaranteed the 1 seed in C and CSH in D.

Thanks. Relegation/Promotion as in the English Soccer Leagues is fantastic, imo.

that’s not a good look for WM….this may not be an elite GC team

Anyone know if the Manhasset - Darien game today is being streamed? Doesn’t look like it’s on NFHS

It will be on YouTube on the DAF Media channel.

TBH LI as a whole seems very down this year. St. Anthony's scored that big win against Culver and were competitive against Malvern, but I think they are a significant step below last year's team. Chaminade is still good but relatively down as well. GC and Manhasset have both already lost out of conference, and Nassau still may be stronger than Suffolk overall.

Generally speaking, it seems like most top leagues are down nationally as, not just on LI -- except for Haverford/Malvern in the interac. The MIAA got taken to the woodshed OOC this year. Sign of the times when top players from all over are being funneled into a smaller and smaller group of select prep schools. Club ball and elitism are really damaging the growth of the game at the high school level.

It’s certainly hurting the programs but it doesn’t mean they can’t field very good teams most years….and occasionally elite teams like Manhasset had last year. I agree this doesn’t look like a dominant year for LI powerhouses but some teams have young players who need a season’s worth of experience and then they take off. Not sure who that will be but last year GC went to Texas and lost 2 games early in the season and pretty much never looked back. They dominated Victor in the finals (despite the close final score) and won yet another state title. Or maybe this is the year for South Side, Bayport, or East Islip to dominate

Manhasset down 1-0 in the 1st but this is an ugly start….cant remember seeing them ever struggle with every aspect of transition. So many basic turnovers. Im playing well but this won’t last unless they really pick it up

Don't think so. Lost 20-8 to Victor in the State "B" Final in 2015. That was largely due to TD Ierlan's presence. Apparently, Manhasset had Senior Prom on Saturday Night which didn't help things either. Looking like a rebuilding year for them.

Never in a million years would I have expected Manhasset to get put into running time. Especially considering they returned a lot of the defense that held Darien to 2 goals last year: they really miss their SSDMs and two-way middies. A guy like Carigulo was such a tone setter with his physicality.

Darien's 0-2 record coming in was sort of a mirage. They were missing 3-4 of their best players in the OT loss to Fairfield Prep (who is very solid this year...lost a tight one to Chaminade on Saturday). They had them back for the Brunswick game, but having your first action of the year be against a battle tested and loaded Bruins team was not a recipe for success; they're better than they showed in that game.

Still, yesterday said more about Manhasset than Darien IMO. The Wave were sloppy early, but Manhasset couldn't take advantage of it and get into the game because they couldn't even pass and catch in the first quarter. Eventually Darien got in a rhythm and got any shot they wanted, whereas Manhasset couldn't clear, couldn't beat their man, couldn't get saves, and most shockingly couldn't buy a Face-Off against a Darien FO unit that had been listless coming in. I think this was an exceptionally bad performance by Set, but combined with the beatdown from Ridgefield, early returns suggest this is the weakest Manhasset team in recent memory.

I only watched the first period because it was clear they had a problem with all the problems they had. Always have to be mindful/respectful we’re watching boys play, so I certainly don’t want to go overboard about it, but I’ve not seen that level before….and as you said it had more to do with them than Darien. That said, they did beat CSH and Farmingdale so I have to imagine there is room to grow before the year is over

If manhasset plays like that vs south side I don’t see them beating them they need to pick up there play

As of right now the two best public school teams on Long Island are South Side and East Islip (which just beat SWR and is 5-0).

Let that one sink in for a second.
