Never seen a coach ejected and escorted out.xxxxxxx wrote: ↑Tue Apr 02, 2024 9:47 pmDef never seen 3 total goals in last 20 secs of regulation, crazy.Trumansburger wrote: ↑Tue Apr 02, 2024 9:45 pm Don't think I've ever seen a game quite like that. Not pretty but Cornell won on pure hustle and determination, and a bit of luck.
Congrats Big Red!

If you make contact with an official, aren't you suspended for the next game? Or am I thinking of another sport?CU88a wrote: ↑Wed Apr 03, 2024 6:30 am Did March "touch" the ref?

Again,
great, great game,
both teams.

Re: Cornell 2024
What a game…. Psyllos came up big again. I’m not sure if it’s his endurance, his ingenuity to figure out what can work against an opponent or just tenacity and competitiveness, likely a combination of all.
The game reminded me of the 2007 final four Duke game with a different outcome. The second half come back, the fight for the tying goal as the clock wound down. Then the go ahead goal but ours this time. Additional script added after that….
I saw the defensive line up on the face off before SU ties up at 17 and thought oh no we are giving them a final possession…. Why?? just go man to man and tie them up for 10 seconds….. happy we don’t have to live with that decision weighing on the season…..

Goldstein and Firth are legit. Love both of their games. But wow- Gilmartin might be my favorite freshman on the team. He's an animal.
Awesome, hard-fought game. I'd even say Game of the year, thus far. Congrats Cornell (and Joe Willie)

I think JoeWillie had it right; in the end, Cornell just looked hungrier.
Kelleher and Kirst are big guys; the ones you mentioned, Goldstein and Firth (and Gilmartin to an extent) are noticeably small. Quick as all get out, but they’re remarkably small players imo.

Oh ya, you can see Goldstein's size on camera. Both listed at 5'9 but Firth seems pretty solid for his frame. Gilmartin's listed at 5'11. All under 6 foot. I dont think any of their sizes impedes their games or the impact they make on it.Finster wrote: ↑Wed Apr 03, 2024 9:35 amGaitsRightHand wrote: ↑Wed Apr 03, 2024 9:11 am Goldstein and Firth are legit. One of my favorite cliches... "Not about the size of the dog in the fight, but the size of the fight in the dog."

Cornell has had some success with smaller players recently. Neither Jeff Teat nor Gavin Adler would be called an imposing physical presence, until you watch them play!

Re: Cornell 2024
Watching last night's game was chaos. I thought the Princeton game that I saw live was unbelievable.
Watched the early crush, too hard to endure so switch to a another show, and follow live stats on phone. Cornell starts to rally, turn it on. Syracuse gets a run, switch to a show, and follow on phone. Son texts and says OMG.
Then in third quarter, Syracuse pushes out again so follow on phone. Cornell rallies and this time no Syracuse run, and I stay and end up elated.
Amazing game, and credit to the Cornell team for not hanging their heads. It took great fortitude to withstand that onslaught and say we can come back.
My dad a 51 Cornell grad would have been so proud.
Go Big Red

2. Kirst/Knust SU LAST NIGHT
3. DUKE final 4 game
4. Kelleher/Knust SU DOME GAME
5. MARYLAND NC GAME

I read most of the 29 pages of this thread on syracusefan.com. The posters go from condescending comments about the Big Red as the score builds to 7-0 to calls for Gary Gait's firing and criticism of the players as Cornell catches up and wins and includes complaints about the refs and everything else. Entertaining. https://syracusefan.com/threads/cornell-gameday.182184/

Interesting on the condescending comments on the Big Red, as all you have to do is go back 2 years to the Dome game where again it appeared at times, Cornell didn't belong on the same field with Syracuse, yet they came back and won that game also.laxfan1313 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 03, 2024 3:58 pm I read most of the 29 pages of this thread on syracusefan.com. I've been at games where Cornell is just obliterating a team, a team I know is good, and the minute I start to think that Cornell is making it look easy, next thing I know, the game is a nail biter.
Syracuse wasn't as good as they were leading 7-0, and Cornell wasn't as bad as they were losing 0-7, and of course by the time we got to 60 minutes, 2 great teams were tied.
I know of no game like lacrosse where a lead can slip away so fast. It's what makes this game so great.

It’s always fascinating how different fan bases interpret the same events in different ways. All of us have been on that roller coaster. We thought the Denver game was stolen from us. The interpretation outside this thread was largely about DU’s composure and resilience.
Once the dust settles, I look forward to some analysis of what went wrong and what went right in this game.

This was a fantastic read earlier this morning. Giggled like a school girl throughout. Encapsulates exactly why 90% of lacrosse fans can’t stand the cuse fan base: a false sense of superiority based on dominance 2 decades ago with no recent success to speak of. Still have yet to realize the talent gap closed (and passed) long ago and they can’t just go out there and do whatever the F they want and still win big games.laxfan1313 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 03, 2024 3:58 pm I read most of the 29 pages of this thread on syracusefan.com. What a collapse. Maybe if they had their OC still on the sidelines they would’ve won.

I understand the point, but …
… if your head coach is arguably the greatest offensive lacrosse player since Jim Brown, is the lack of an OC on the sidelines a legitimate excuse?!?
