IL stats are garbage, always go to the home team stats page.youthathletics wrote: ↑Tue Apr 02, 2024 8:03 pmWas tracking the stats from IL: https://www.insidelacrosse.com/game/702 ... ts=faceoff
Cuse had already served a 30sec penalty for 3 violations when you posted.
Re: Cornell 2024
I meant this as in he’s playing out of his mind. Unreal performance
Re: Cornell 2024
Two games in a row vs Cuse where backup goalie comes in and stars. Oneill is helluva player but give me First
Re: Cornell 2024
Bet the post 1st quarter Cornell goalie's mom and dad did a few high fives watching that one.

Don't think I've ever seen a game quite like that. Not pretty but Cornell won on pure hustle and determination, and a bit of luck.
Congrats Big Red!

Also, real high level contributions from the Freshmen.

Re: Cornell 2024
Can we return to the non releasable 3 + 1 minute penalty. Or is that not a problem today? (Just a little joke.) Glad to see Cornell win. Just not in Hockey.
Re: Cornell 2024
I’ve seen some pretty good attacks in the ACC. Any better than Cornell’s? What a comeback! Reserve goalie stoned SU and FOGO came through when he had to.

Holy crap, good thing I'm typing because I am hoarse.
I kept thinking the whole time, JW remember that game at the Dome and Cornell was down like 15-10, into the 4th, and then they just started chipping away, and won that one.
This one had the same feel. It's so weird that one team gets on a roll, that the other team just can't stop it, no matter what they try.
EASY STAR OF THIS GAME : WYATT KNUST.
Micheal Long should be a legitimate TEWY contender. The numbers he is putting up this year are scary.
And of course, when you need a goal, to basically, and I don't want to say to save your season, but give them a fighting chance should they not win the ILT, you go to your best player, and he buries it.
This is certainly not the most talented team, but they are the guttiest I have watched in the past say 15 years.
It's a pleasure, and NERVE WRACKING, to watch them. What a team.

Congrats on a great comeback win JoeWillie.
Knust turned the game just as he did when he relieved Ierlan in 22'.
BigRed has some firepower with Kirst, Long and others. If not for Mark in 2h, your team is posting twenty easily despite faceoff diff

Re: Cornell 2024
Eerily similar to the Cornell-Syracuse game 2 years ago. The ending, the comeback, and Knust Excellent in relief of the starting goalie.
At halftime I texted a friend that Cornell looked like a #15-20 ranked team.
Talk about two different games. How do you give up 14 in the first half and 3 in the second + 2 OTs?
-Great play in goal helps. Never understood why the coaches gave Knust such a quick hook after the 1st quarter against PSU. He looks like such a good shot stopper. Tully seems to read low shots very well, but not at all mid-to high. Granted, Syracuse was scoring hands-free, great shots all first half --- but against a top team, you need your goalie to make some saves. Didn't happen.
*If the play-by-play guy said one more time that Syracuse's OC being thrown out was a big difference, I was going to throw-up. Absolute non-sense.
Misc. Observations:
-Another great effort by Psyllos - about 40 face-offs and he took almost all. Had one bad stretch, seemed to tire, but then rebounded so well. Petrakis seems to fall down on most FO's and isn't a viable option. It will be a miracle if Psyllos is able to stay healthy all season.
-At 17-16, Cornell made a big tactical error after the go-ahead goal with 10 seconds. They aligned BOTH wings in extreme defensive positions to prevent a fast break. Syracuse's FOGO raked backwards (I said to myself "great") but Jake Stevens (former Cornell commit) picked it up on the run --- and with no Cornell wing to impede him, pushed it up for the tying goal on a right alley dodge. 20/20 hindsight.
-Two very different defensive strategies employed by Penn and Syracuse. I'd rather face Syracuse's scheme.
-Syracuse really dominated GBs in the first half - they looked faster, quicker, stronger, and well coached. Their FO wings were terrific all night. But our close and shorties really picked it up in the 2nd half.
-I can't say enough about Gilmartin, a freshman. He's playing Davis' role as the top shortie in match-ups and time on the field.
-Nice effort by Wortheim on the winning goal - he blew by his man down the right alley and forced a slide. Unfortunately, I think the guy who came to support was Kirst's man. Wortheim put on the breaks and passed back to 15 who had a running start for a hands-free missile. Game over. Wortheim had his best game of the season. I have been waiting for him to do more.
Still down #s 7, 5, and 50. Parker & Boccafola providing needed breaks for guys logging lots of minutes.
*On to Brown. Can't take anything for granted. Once again, no rest for the weary.

The D was standing around guarding attackmen who were in no position to score.VeryRustyRed wrote: ↑Tue Apr 02, 2024 10:11 pm -At 17-16, Cornell made a big tactical error after the go-ahead goal with 10 seconds. Congrats on a gutsy win. Ya had 'em all the way
Re: Cornell 2024
Dooley, again, making big plays - ground balls, smart outlets, etc.
Re: Cornell 2024
This season has been ridiculously heart stopping. This team is two possessions away from being a one loss top 3 team and two possessions away from being a 5 loss team battling for a top 20 ranking. That's how razor thin things are this year in D1 lax. There have been many games like that for almost every top team. If Cornell can win out in the Ivy League regular season, that comeback may have secured a tourney bid.
I'm still digesting what I watched. I went from disgust (7-0) to hope (7-4) to despair (14-8) to encouragement (14-10) to resignation (16-10) to anxiety (16-15) to elation (17-16 Cornell) back to disgust (17-17) to frustration (numerous squandered opportunities in OT - again) to absolute relief (18-17).

The end of regulation was superior lacrosse, both teams.
