It is my pleasure and honor to join this forum! Anyways, lets get one thing straight, the CARDS are 4-3 and are on fire. I had the pleasure to watch this team play against the CAVS ( shoutout to them, they fought hard). Hey Tighty Righty you ding bat, of course it's not the same CAVS team as 2019, its 2024 buddy. Stop trying to take things away from both teams. You're a low life loser who needs to stay off the forums and get on the field. Stop reliving your glory days little guy, college is over. Stop drinking Natty Lights in your garage while wearing your Scranton 4th line dmid jersey from 1992. What others are saying is they are proud of this group of guys. Anyways, the cards are getting hot at just the right time. Catholics Defense is looking like the 2010 Duke national champs team. Freshman Goalie Tyler Merchant looks like a modern day Scotty Rodgers. The CARDS play lycoming this Saturday, I mean this will put them at 5-3. Lycoming should probably just save the trip and some gas money. They would have a better time soaking up the sun in Williamsport PA.

LOL- Solid chirps. No disrespect to the 27 strong but they got a lot of unnecessary hype for a team that a lost a lot of their talent from closing down. Forgot it’s 2024 and we’re all about participation trophies now. The standard is the standard. Glad we’re a bunch of middle pack happy losers. They’re just an avg team now if that. And for the “red hot “ cards, congrats on your 3 wins from Curry, Pfieffer and Mary Wash. 2/3 of those teams could lose to Northeast high school programs. Their goalie is rocking a 48% save percentage. If that is good to you then this conference is a sorry sorry place of cold and timid souls. Netminder, your the reason people in here hate Catholic you hillbilly.

Yo Tighty Righty, as a royals alumni we don’t claim you. You wouldn’t even be our laundry guy let alone on our 4th dmid line. Pretty sure there was a guy on Juniata who gave himself the nickname tighty righty back in the day. That’s besides the point Royals vs Cards landmark chip. The best will move onto the tournament. Sorry your Juniata eagles will be at the bottom of the conference yet again and the conference added two more “north east high school teams”. Keep wasting your money on that flo sports subscription.

It's hard to decode what you're trying to assign to the Cavs here. As a 2004 alumnus of the program, I followed team coverage intently, more than normal, due to the fiscal insolvency and upcoming closure. I saw no "hype," just a recognition of the programs success (warranted) and a lot of college lacrosse wide empathy. These kids are doing something none of us had to do. It's admirable, a little foolhardy, and downright ballsy. We don't care if they are an "average" team, we care that they are competing. You project your ideas like a guy who never won anything, and can't employ empathy or tact. Probably younger (I hope) and desperately want your former club to level up.

Netminder. Welcome to the forum and looking forward to your posts.

And just a reminder to everyone. You're certainly entitled to your opinions and we welcome them.

But when voicing an opinion about teams, players and coaches, let's try to be constructive, positive and use some common sense.

That being said, it's time for everyone to make their predicitions for the Landmark Conference in 2024.

Conference play is here. Nine games for each team in six weeks. Forget about team records as some schedules have been tougher than others and all teams are starting out at zero wins and zero losses.

Here's my forecast as to how they will finish.

1. Scranton - This team has played a brutal non-conference schedule and is well-prepared for the conference wars. They played well in losses to Salisbury, Dickinson, Ithaca and Trinity. And they had a very nice early win over Muhlenberg. The strength of this team is its defense and defense is usually what sends a team to the top. Pre-season All-American Colin Pierce anchors this group which also includes some solid poles in Zach Palinkas, Andrew Lord, Dom Gubitosi and freshman Connor Cole. The Royals have a solid short-stick unit led by Alex Eglitis, who happens to be one of the best two-way middies in the conference having put up 7 goals and 5 assists so far. Goalie Declan Allen has quietly become one of the best in the league. Not many shooters in the conference will be as lethal as those he has faced in his first 8 games. On offense, Matt McAree is a legitimate POY candidate. He leads the Landmark in goals with 28 playing against some of the best defenders in the country in the non-conference schedule. Kyle Holmes, Pat McCormack and freshman Myles McCutcheon have played well against top competition. Middies Joe Boyle and Jason Kozak will present match-up problems for most Landmark defenses. The one weakness for Scranton is at faceoff where they have struggled with just a 30% success rate. But let's remember who they were up against in the first 8 games. I expect that this unit will continue to improve as the conference games roll out.

2. Catholic - The Cardinals had to replace a lot of contributors from last year's roster that went 5-2 in conference and made the playoffs. They have also had a challenging out-of-conference schedule and are coming off a great win over Cabrini on the road. Once again, defense is a strong point. Mike Tayloe, Sam Pikul, Mason Russo and Matt Ford can cause match-up difficulties for most conference teams. Freshmen Ian McKinley and Zach Gibson are athletic and quick. Jack Dwyer and Danny Capitelli head up the short sticks and will be a problem for most of the Landmark offensive units. The pre-season question mark was starting a freshman in goal but Tyler Merchant has done a great job and should be a force during the conference schedule. Pre-season All-American Victor Rosado anchors a solid attack line joined by Steven Dezelic and Fitz McLaughlin Freshman Bjorn Olofson has gotten some field time lately at attack and has looked good. Brady McMahon, Mike Mulligan and Cullen Lotz head up a strong midfield. Catholic is very strong at faceoff as Ryan Macksoud has more than held his own in the non-conference games and should dominate against most of the faceoff guys he will see in conference play.

3. Elizabethtown - The Blue Jays also scheduled some top tier teams for the non-conference schedule and the only concern that their fans may have is the drop in offensive production from last year with basically the same set of offensive pieces. But again, they will be facing defensive units that will not be of the caliber they faced in non-conference play. Pre-season All American Riley Langen is an explosive attackman who can both score and feed and there was a reason that he was Co-Offensive POY last season. Joining him on the attack line are strong players like Gavin Gismondi, Colin Kondracki and freshman Tristan Coleman. The midfield has Alex Kilgour, Nolan Krasnick, Joey Kilpatrick and two-way middie Connor Stewart, last season's first-team All-Conference SSDM. The defensive unit has missed Gio Raso (another first-team All-Conference selection last season). Lucas Kohler, Ben Clark and Joel Maragoto along with Alec Newman and Jack Gress have continued to improve and should be a problem for most of the Landmark offenses they will face. The short stick defense has been solid early on and should continue to improve. TJ Chapman also continues to improve at faceoff for the Blue Jays. Pre-season All-American Brayden Franey has really be tested in the early games and the expectation is that he will be a major problem for the Landmark offensive units.

4. Susquehanna - This team probably had the most offensive power in the conference. They certainly have missed Chris Ciccarello but the attackmen of Brennan Lorrence, Jack Gaillard and Connor Aitken have combined for 38 goals and 25 assists so far this season and should give most of the Landmark defenses problems. Kieran Thomas, Nick Remund and Matthew Faggioli head up a solid midfield group. LSM Ted Zabrosky and defensman Aiden Kennedy anchor a solid unit joined by Sean Yamada and Noah Trala. The defense also features short sticks Marshall Woodrosky and Dominic Contella and combined, the River Hawks have held opponents to just 62 goals in 8 games. At faceoff, Jared Tavernite should compete for All-Conference consideration as he has won faceoffs at a 66% rate thus far. Goalie Jozef Korpics leads the conference in bot goals against average and save percentage and he could make the difference in any close games for Susquehanna.

5. Goucher - The Gophers have surprised everyone by going 6-2 in the non-conference season albeit against weaker competition. But there are a lot of bright spots for Goucher. Transfer James Dugan, Jacob Morgan and Theo Cook IV have been really good at attack. Middies Tyler May, Holden Vance and Jack McDermott have been a solid part of Goucher's movement offense. Sean Nolan continues to impress as one of the best defensemen in the conference. He has great support from DJ Barnes and Nick Gambone. Freshman Jack Smith gets better and better every game in goal and might be a factor in any close games. Ethan Pratt and David Vucci man the short stick unit and have also gotten better and better with each game. The Gophers have struggle at faceoff and will look for an improvement in that phase of the game.

6. Drew - Drew has had an inconsistent non-conference schedule looking really good at times and not so good at others. On offense, York transfer Riley Zeer has stepped up on attack with 25 goals and 8 assists. His linemates are Mike DeMayo and Joey Larmore. At midfield, the Rangers feature Tommy Larmore, Brett Spafford and Alex Higgins. When the offense in in sync, it can score a lot of goals. Defensively, Tyler McCarthy and Jordan Wilson lead the way, along with Ben Johnson and Cole Kirker. The short stick unit of Kyle Weeks, Matt Giordano and Nico Castellano has been solid. In goal, both Sawyer Kennedy and freshman Joe Barnish have seen time as the Rangers have two options to see which one might have the hot hand. Faceoff is manned by GJ Nazziola who should also be in the All-Conference conversation at the end of the season.

7. Moravian - Moravian has had an up and down start to the season. Their offense has been inconsistent but, when they are clicking, it can been very good. Attackmen Trevor Dzama, Connor James and Vincent DeVito lead the way. The midfield of is led by Aaron Judge and Dan Kelly. On defense, Matt Baer, Jason Levy, Mike Sickler and Austin Hittle, along with a strong short stick unit led by Kyle Weiss and Aden Moskovitz. The Greyhounds have a competitive edge at faceoff, where Gannon Mesko has improved to the point where he is one of the best in the conference. Thomas Lee has started in goal for Moravian since he was a freshman and he has had solid results.

8. Wilkes - Wilkes enter their first Landmark season with high expectations. They have shown that they can come back fro deficits and win close games. On offense, they are headed by Colby Opromolla, who may be one of the best two-way middies in the conference, along with Tim Hartka and freshman Austin Sosnovik. The strong suit for the Colonels is their defense, led by Brendan Keegan, Matthew Warns and Michael Rauch. In goal, Joseph Marino has been a factor in the close games that Wilkes has won.

9. Lycoming - The other newcomer to the Landmark this season, Lycoming is paced on offense by Troy Scozzafava, Andrew Ednie and Sean Farrell. Defensman Jakob Switzer is a force for that unit as he can cause turnovers and scoop up ground balls. In goal, Ben Franco is a big man who can stop shots. He was All-Conference HM last year in the MAC-Freedom conference.

10. Juniata - The Eagles continue to improve and have played with tenacity and grit this year. Offensively, Beaux Wojciechowski, Kolton Black and Aiden Duran lead the way. Matt McCleary and Reuben Stoll anchor the defense. Ryan Madison has had some great saves in goal after winning the starting job.

Drew vs SU looks like it should be the most competitive game today for teams competing for playoff spots. Gonna be interesting to see the Wilkes Moravian score. And I might be out on a limb on this one, but I'm gonna bet that Lyco keeps it a little interesting at the beginning before the Cards pull away. Happy Conference play everybody!

There were no surprises in the Landmark contests on a rainy Saturday afternoon.

Elizabethtown (3-4) (1-0) scored early and often and ran away from Goucher (6-3) (0-1) by a score of 13-4. Riley Langen with 3 goals and an assist and Gavin Gismondi, with 2 goals and 2 assists led the Blue Jays offense. Connor Stewart and freshman Reese Levinson chipped in with 2 goals apiece. The Blue Jays defense limited Goucher to just 21 shots led by Lucas Kohler who caused 2 turnovers and grabbed 5 ground balls. TJ Chapman dominated at faceoff, going 15 for 18 with 7 ground balls. Brayden Franey had 9 saves. For Goucher, freshman Jack Smith had 15 saves.

Catholic (5-3) (1-0) started quickly and defeated Lycoming (2-3) (0-1) 16-5. On offense, Steven Dezelic had 4 goals with 2 assists and John Hadden added a hat trick. Mason Russo and Mike Tayloe each caused 2 turnovers. Ruso had 4 ground balls while Tayloe scooped up 3 ground balls. Freshman Tyler Merchant got the win in goal with 8 saves. For Lycoming, goalie Ben Franco had 22 saves.

Susquehanna ((7-2) (1-0) shut out Drew 5-0 in the first quarter and ran away with a 17-6 win over the Rangers (5-4) (0-1). Brennan Lorrence led the way on offense with 5 goals and 2 assists. Still a junior, Lorrence tied the Susquehanna record for career goals at 132 that has stood for 20 years. Jack Gaillard added 2 goals and 3 assists for the River Hawks. On defense, Aidan Kennedy caused 3 turnovers and had 2 ground balls.

Moravian (4-4) (1-0) led 8-0 at halftime and went on to defeat Wilkes (3-5) (0-1) 13-3. Trevor Dzama led the offense with 3 goals and 6 assists. Vincent Devito and Ryan Kokoska had 2 goals each with Devito adding an assist. The defense, led by Jason Levy with 4 caused turnovers and 4 ground balls, and Matt Baer, with 2 caused turnovers and 4 ground balls, held Wilkes to just 19 shots. Gannon Mesko went 15 of 18 at faceoff with 8 ground balls. Liam Kelly, with 6 saves, earned the win in goal.

Athletes of the Week.

Men's Lacrosse Offensive: Steven Dezelic (Catholic University)

Steven Dezelic completed his fifth and sixth multi-goal games of the season to lead Catholic in a 2-0 week. Dezelic scored three goals and handed out two assists at Cabrini in a comeback 12-11 victory on Tuesday before adding four goals and two assists in a 16-5 win against Lycoming on Saturday. Dezelic also added two ground balls for the week, both in the Lycoming contest. Dezelic scored the game-tying and eventual game-winning goals versus Cabrini.

Men's Lacrosse Defensive: Brayden Franey (Elizabethtown College)

Elizabethtown senior Brayden Franey held a pair of opponents to single-digit goals this past week for the Jays to help his team go 2-0. Franey stopped 17 shots at Widener last Wednesday, including a late save with under 30 seconds to go to preserve a 9-8 road win for Etown. On Saturday against Goucher in the conference opener, Franey made another nine saves and held the Gophers to their lowest scoring output (4) of the season as he earned his second consecutive win.

Good benchmark is Salisbury's 12-5 road win over Scranton early in the season on February 17.

It was 4-3 Salisbury at the half before the Gulls outscored Scranton 8-2 in the second half. Salisbury played a deliberate game on both offense and defense. Scranton only had 16 shots and won only 2 of 20 faceoffs. Scranton's goalie Declan Allen played very well and had 15 saves. And it was snowing during part of the game.

There are some positives for Catholic. They will be at home and will most likely win more faceoffs. They will need to be very patient and disciplined on offense. Their defense can keep the game close against the very talented Salisbury shooters. Their goalie will need to be at the top of his game. It will be a great challenge for the Cardinals who, as has been mentioned, are improving every game. And it will certainly prepare them for the tough Landmark games ahead.
