Maryland has a big advantage over Michigan with Tillman on the sideline. However, Michigan is desperate to stay relevant.Wheels wrote: ↑Fri Mar 22, 2024 10:20 pm Everything points to another close game tomorrow.
Per LaxRef:
Michigan
RPI: 15, Adj Off Eff: 11, Adj Def Eff: 40, Adj Faceoff: 7, Adj Goalie: 28
Maryland
RPI: 12, Adj Off Eff: 19, Adj Def Eff: 10, Adj Faceoff: 5, Adj Goalie: 19
The one area Michigan is probe to breakdowns is in transition, but the Terps have largely decided to abandon early and transition offense. Michigan has big, mobile defensemen. They really were the first team last season to utilize a defensive strategy to gum up the Terps ball movement. They also just shredded Maryland's interior defense last season.
Seems like the Terps should have more room to operate on offense this weekend, but Wietfeldt has dominated Wierman in their previous match-ups. We've seen what happens when the Terps can't win the possession battle. Neither the offense or defense gets into a rhythm.

In the game against Richmond I attended, more odd than the erratic clearing was Maryland’s complete lack of any ride.
Re: Maryland 2024
Has he had less talented teams? The last team you could say was less talented than this one was 2015, and that team still had Matt Rambo at attack and IDA and Neufeldt on the rope unit. Of the 14 years he's been here, this is absolutely a bottom 5 team in terms of talent that he's had. Might be bottom 3 with the 2011 and 2012 teams, his two best overachieving jobs.keno in reno wrote: ↑Sat Mar 23, 2024 3:28 pmTillman has had less talented teams, but this is the least competent as far as clears and turnovers in general

Team won't make the NCAA tournament this year
Re: Maryland 2024
That’s it Murphy, shoot it right into his stick,
why did Tills even bother taking a timeout for that play.

Re: Maryland 2024
Starting to think this team isn't very good. Not enough talent on offense and way too sloppy. Next week is now a must win.

Yeah this is one of his worst. Don't even have a guy who can run the ball against a soft ride. Bad year for Terp sports in generaljrn19 wrote: ↑Sat Mar 23, 2024 4:03 pmHas he had less talented teams? A fraudulent intent, however carefully concealed at the outset, will generally, in the end, betray itself.

Re: Maryland 2024
Blowing half a dozen clears, losing almost every quarter faceoff, and being unable to close out a game like that is what Unserious teams do.
It was nice to see Stobaugh see the field, pick up a great GB, feed Erksa for a goal….and then never see the field again. Meanwhile Owen Murphy who is shooting 16% coming into the game takes the last shot. He’s 23 years old by the way.
Shoutout to Maltz for the great 4Q. Dudes always been a gamer.

Offense doesn't scare anyone.
Re: Maryland 2024
Offense scored 11 goals on 35 possessions today. For once, the response today isn’t blame the offense. Obviously 3Q was very bad. But they did their job
They had 8 fewer possessions than Michigan because they lost the faceoffs 60-40 and then compounded it by blowing 6 clears (4 more than Michigan.)
This is what not teams ranked in the middle of the Top 20, where this team will be, do. When one part of the team plays great, others let it down. The defense and faceoff played great early in the year and the offense let it down. Today the offense stepped up and they only had 35 possessions cause they couldn’t clear or pick up groundballs.
Again. Not serious stuff unfortunately

Worried about Spanos, Im not sure I've ever seen him not limp. Feel bad for the kid, seems like that high school injury has had a lasting inpact
Re: Maryland 2024
Maryland is a good team, but one with little room for error. The offense is below average. Defense is very good. They have to win special teams to be consistent. On the bright side McNaney looked good today.jrn19 wrote: ↑Sat Mar 23, 2024 4:55 pm Offense scored 11 goals on 35 possessions today. For once, the response today isn’t blame the offense. Bingo! This offense is so-so. I’m not seeing much on O
