Shhhh, Dis. Republican voters think that we're holding all the cards. Because Trump sez so.

Re: All Things China
TARIFFS ARE ACTUALLY TAXES LEVIED AGAINST END USERS/BUYERS? BUSHWA! quoth the 37%! Not to worry. Mnuchin's going to transfer those dollars and bail out farmers.Wasn't that kind of financial legerdemain a tool only them Democrats would use?
Re: All Things China
Mnuchin was very good at foreclosing on Mortgage’s that missed as few as one payment.
Re: All Things China
Xi should send Trump a thank you note for giving over his leverage in the trade negotiation.

Glad you asked that, a fan, been wondering the same myself.
The art of the deal guy, Chinese tellin' him to go **** himself with his deal.
Big surprise there.
Bet some of those soybean farmers will be growing hemp in the future.

Re: All Things China
Yep. Big surprise.
Everyone understand now why no other Administration tried this?
How F-ing stupid have Americans become? We start tariffs on China. And a few months in, Trump thinks it's a swell idea to borrow $17 Billion from China, to give that money to American farmers to "make up" for the damage done by the tariffs on China.
Oh yeah, with a brilliant strategy like this, China will cave any day now. How much money did we borrow from China this quarter, folks? Anyone sense the problem yet?
The part I don't get is how many financial wonks and talking heads thought this would work. How in the h*ll did this idiots get that much money in the first place? Did they just completely stop teaching Logic in American business schools, or something?

Re: All Things China
I doubt the news will add the interest on debt charges to the cost but they should.
I don’t know whether our debt issuance has been oversubscribed lately but regardless China can drive up interest on Treasuries on the next auction if they choose to do it.
After Breton Woods the USA made a decision to fund its twin deficits in budget and debt by using its status as the de facto world currency and fund it with foreign money. If that ever stops duck and cover

Since 2009 China has tripled their GDP. Over 5 Trillion of it over 10 years from a trade imbalance with US.
(Never during the 5 decade cold war did we contribute a penny to the growth and global ambitions of the Soviet Union.)
These are communists if you forgot. They wear expensive suits and smile at the cameras but they're still putting their people in concentration camps right now. And limiting personal freedoms.
The International Monetary Fund has accepted the yuan as a main world reserve currency. They're posturing to replace the US dollar.
The chi coms are using the trade imbalance to accelerate their military buildup. Aircraft carriers, planes, tanks, missiles, militarily strategic islands in the south China Sea.
They continue to steal intellectual property. Improving their technological capability in a fraction of the time it took our R&D efforts.
I have grandchildren. When they get to be 18 or 19 they might have to face an even stronger, ambitious and more confrontational Chinese government looking for something for over a billion people to do besides weigh down the government. History shows Communists are not opposed to thinning the herd
and lightening the load.
We can do something now to slow that growth—at our expense—or continue to kick the can down the road like, umm, lets see, North Korea. Where we have no good options. And then you can chuckle and mock whatever President has to deal with them then, like you do with Trump now and NK, with our backs against the wall.
We had to send an entire generation to war to stop the global aspirations of a tyrannical axis. Maybe we can just subsidize some soybean farmers now instead of sacrificing millions of our grand children in the decades to come.

The table below shows the average annual growth (in nominal US dollar terms) of China’s foreign trade during the reform era.
Period Two-way trade Exports Imports
1981-85 +12.8% +8.6% +16.1%
1986-90 +10.6% +17.8% +4.8%
1991-95 +19.5% +19.1% +19.9%
1996–2000 +11.0% +10.9% +11.3%
2000-05 +24.6% +25.0% +24.0%
2006 +27.2% +19.9% +23.8%
2007 +25.6% +20.8% +23.4%
2008 +17.9% +17.4% +18.5%
Since Nixon, we have had a benifcal relationship with China.....we want the items below and China is well positioned to make these items cheaper then we can.
The dollar has been one of many currencies to be at the top of the heap....

The dollar accounts for over 90% of annual forex trades....this isn't something to worry about. In the foreign exchange market, the dollar rules. Ninety percent of forex trading involves the U.S. dollar. The dollar is just one of the world's 185 currencies according to the International Standards Organization List, but most of these currencies are only used inside their own countries. Theoretically, any one of them could replace the dollar as the world's currency, but they won't because they aren't as widely traded. The chart below shows a breakdown of the 10 most traded currencies in 2018.

Well, in all fairness to tRUMP, it is these people who keep voting for him because they are just too stupid to realize what the hell they're doing. They have had enough experience with the likes of Reagan and Bush who screwed them. And now they have Donny Demento to do their dirty little handiwork.

Re: All Things China
Commodities like oil are traded in dollars.
The Chinese have explored and would like to become the de facto world currency which carries a lot of soft power with it.
China started to develop a massive trade balance because the US after Breton Woods lost its leverage and made the decision to run deficits in its budget and its trade and finance them with recycled monies from its trade deficits e.g. China recycles its surplus back to the USA because of security etc. If surpluses were not recycled to the USA we could not run the deficits we do.
Trump wants a trade surplus with every trading partner. First its fantasy and demos how bereft he and his administration are. Second how do the deficits we run get financed.
