Trying to explain how I came to these results would require an explanation of the Pythagoras theorem, and how I applied Avagadros number.

Toast helps with the latter.

Interestingly, RPI puts the Hoyas in the same spot. Seems like potentially because it has Notre Dame, Penn, and Duke much lower than the general consensus.

Of course, RPI is pretty meaningless at this point in the season. Just thought it was interesting to see Notre Dame at 9, Duke at 12, Penn at 25.

And coincidentally or not, some parallels to JWs poll.

That's the RPI. Penn is outside top 20 in RPI.

There’s some murmuring you have an anti-NJIT bias. Thought I’d pass along the murmurs. Like, would it really kill you to give them the honorary #20?!

Denver only renting that top spot, even though they deserve it at this time. If they’re still undefeated by March 24, watch Duke take them apart that day.
It's been a whack season so far. I have a hard time saying Denver deserves that #1, as Cornell was clearly the better team until the refs stepped in. For that reason, I might slide Army to #1. But tomato, tomahto...

Blame your problem on Maryland and Virginia, both of whom blew chances to claim number one this weekend. Denver or Army? Almost a coin flip for me but beating Hopkins is looking like a bigger win now.

Wow. The team that took out the then #1 team is not in the top 20 Rpi?

Interesting.

It's been a really great season so far - there are more teams that can compete and win at a high level than we've seen in the last few years. It'll be interesting to see if that competitiveness will last throughout the season or if a few teams can separate as they develop and improve as the season progresses.

Rankings with this level of early parity are tough. What do you value: records? talent? early head to head? potential? hypothetical who would win this matchup more often than not? who's most likely to win on memorial day? the way a team has won and/or lost? So many things to balance. It's fun to think about!

Jumping into the ring, with 30 teams because why not, and with what I'm ~sure~ will be no controversial takes at all, I've got:

1) Johns Hopkins
2) Notre Dame
3) Virginia
4) Denver
5) Duke
6) Army
7) Maryland
8) Syracuse
9) Georgetown
10) Cornell
11) Penn St.
12) Yale
13) Michigan
14) Princeton
15) Rutgers
16) Richmond
17) UNC
18) Penn
19) Ohio St.
20) Delaware
21) Towson
22) Villanova
23) Navy
24) UMass
25) Harvard
26) High Point
27) Quinnipiac
28) Bryant
29) Boston U.
30) Colgate

I think there really are 4 tiers of team here:

1-13: Can compete and win any week depending on energy and matchups. The gap from 1-13 isn't as big as one would've thought coming into the season. You can obviously make the case for switching up this order quite a bit. 1-7 is a nightmare. I think I reordered it in every possible way and am still not fully satisfied.

14-18: Have some things to work on before they can consistently compete at the top, but the pieces are there to build upon and they could easily develop as the season progresses.

19-24: Will be tough outs and can/will likely surprise someone at some point this season, but I don't know if they have the consistent readiness and comprehensive production to make an elongated run.

25-30: Could catch anyone sleeping, could get run out of the building.

Sorry to NJIT fans, but they are certainly moving in the right direction!

I forgot about the Cornell game.

In any event, Denver is not going undefeated.

That's a big drop for UVA going to #7 after losing to your own #3 JHU
I have Cornell at #9, after losing to my OWN #1, AT DENVER. With your rationale, should I have Cornell higher?

Pios number 1,

they haven’t been number 1 in forever (1st half of 2016 season, maybe?).

Whatever the breaks they may have gotten in the Hopkins and Cornell games, that’s still a very good team, definite Final Four potential.
