Good for you for having boots on the ground at an Ivy game -- I'm toggling livestreams. The Harvard-Bucknell YouTube feed seems to cut off partway through the first period for me, not sure what that's about, although it's clear Harvard is in an early hole. I'll be interested to hear your observations of the Crimson.

Re: Harvard Lacrosse 2024
Harvard scored the last two goals of the half, kinda lucky to be down by just 5 at HT, 8-3. Started off playing with no energy, playing with very low lacrosse IQ. Harvard stupid? Sure looked that way when a Crimson defenseman took the clear, while a Harvard middie stood one yard inside the offensive half watching, then didn't step back into the D half as the defenseman cleared; penalty, loss of possession. King scored two goals, assisted on Harvard's other goal; he can play. Maybe the Harvard players thought they just had to show up; Bucknell missed the cage seversl times from the doorstep, could have been up 12-1. As it is, 5 goals down at HT and starting the 2H with a man-up posession, Harvard is clearly in this game, or should be.
Re: Harvard Lacrosse 2024
Harvatd plsying much better, but Bucknell not giving away anything. Harvard goalie looking good, nice goal by Harvard middie Pokorney from nrarby Darien, Ct. 10-6 Bucknell after 3q.
Re: Harvard Lacrosse 2024
Home now, sipping a hot cuppa tea. Wow, what a game. As much as I might have criticized the way Harvard played for the first 40-45% of the game, once they were 8-1 down, the Crimson (who wore black) looked very good in coming all the way back to win 13-12. The Harvard comeback had a lot to do with FOGO DeGennaro upping his game, ending up over 50% after a slow start. Late on, Harv's man-down defense made a nice stand to preserve the 13-12 lead, then at even strength the D held again. After King had a hand in all of Harvard's first-half scoring, other players stepped up. Teddy Malone looked good. The passing, clearing and energy level all improved in the second half. Soph 2nd line middie Griffin Pokorny from nearby Darien, CT scored two sweet goals, while SSDM Ray Dearth from nearby Ridgefield, CT scored the Harvard goal that tied it at 12. I think Harvard's 13th goal was the first time the Crimson led all game. Harvard will probably know that it can't afford to come out of the gaits this slowly against the likes of Michigan and UVA, but for today it was just about good enough.

That's great -- sounds like an incredibly fun game to watch. Hats off to the Johnnies for a great comeback. If you can learn the "try not to start slow" lesson while eaking out a win, that's the best way to do it.FannOLax wrote: ↑Sat Feb 24, 2024 4:54 pm Home now, sipping a hot cuppa tea. Wow, what a game. Defense was unorganized in first half. Kept losing Bucknell's goal scorers for easy finishes in first half. Defensive communication was much better in 2d half. Teddy Malone can take his defender whenever he wants.FannOLax wrote: ↑Sat Feb 24, 2024 4:54 pm Home now, sipping a hot cuppa tea. Wow, what a game. Don’t look now, but Harvard is 5-0.
Will the Crimson regain the glory of 1915?!?

Next Saturday's game at Michigan will be a good indication of how good this Harvard team is.DocBarrister wrote: ↑Sat Mar 02, 2024 6:45 pm Don’t look now, but Harvard is 5-0.

Still undefeated. Now keep it up against that school that thinks it’s an Ivy. Had to get in that dig in homage to JR, aka Red/White, the late Maryland fan who was known to taunt my school—not undeservedly—as as Ivy wannabe.

A week of preparation should help. H is now into the meat of the schedule. Bring on the maize and blue.

Harvard giving Yale a run for their money. Yale 14, Harvard 11 going into the 4th quarter.

Re: Harvard Lacrosse 2024
That was quite a game and an incredible showing of poise by Harvard to come back so strongly after going down early. Particularly impressed with Christian Barnard in goal who had a ton of saves (20 plus?) and kept Harvard in it, even though he was barraged early on. And Sam King and Teddy Malone are both outstanding. Last but not least, I think Gerry Byrne is the real deal. Great coach.
A terrific game to start the Ivy League slate for 2024.

Not the result we hoped for but a strong showing in the second half by the crimson. Hats off to Yale’s Fogo, he had an incredible day at the x. While losing to your rival is never fun, the team should feel good about how they responded today. The Tigers are up next.

It’s pretty clear now that Harvard is close to the Ivy League elite (Cornell, Yale, and Princeton), but they are not there yet.

Exciting that UVA is heading to Cambridge. Not too often ACC teams come up to Massachusetts.
Credit to Gerry for getting it scheduled. Also like how Coach Byrne has committed to Jordan Field. The sight lines in Harvard stadium are great, you are directly above the action. But Jordan being only lacrosse, and intimate as lax only is a great atmosphere. Good lacrosse weather forecasted, and should be a great Easter weekend crowd.
Harvard’s excellent attack will be tested by those athletic Velociraptors
