Re: Brown 2024
I love the Inside Lacrosse etc podcasts with new-hire coaches. Every one gets to "we're going to outwork the other guys." I'd love to hear, "we're going to lobby admissions HARD to get in the kids who are more talented than the kids at Big Rival U. As long as they can hit a corner from 12-15 I don't care how hard they work."Brownlax wrote: ↑Tue Feb 20, 2024 11:37 pmReplay is up on ESPN+ - just watched the halftime interview - ?????bearlaxfan wrote: ↑Tue Feb 20, 2024 7:06 pmWell... Re: Brown 2024
The effort by Brown was amazing but clearly not enough. If you have one player taking 17 shots a game the offense is in huge trouble. Defenses are locking out the midfielders and they don’t have a threat or feeder behind the net to get time and space for the offense. Brown is being out coached on the offensive side of the ball. They need to figure something out fast or the season will be a total disaster.Brownlax wrote: ↑Tue Feb 20, 2024 11:37 pmReplay is up on ESPN+ - just watched the halftime interview - ?????bearlaxfan wrote: ↑Tue Feb 20, 2024 7:06 pmWell... Yikes. 17 shots on Saturday too. I'd be interested to see what happens with the rest of the offense if a team tries to shut him off. The way they're trending it won't be necessary but it's an interesting idea.Laxnation wrote: ↑Wed Feb 21, 2024 8:22 amThe effort by Brown was amazing but clearly not enough. Re: Brown 2024
This season could get real spooky, real fast. The defense did not look good in surrendering a flurry of wide open doorstep goals to BU. The offense is one dimensional. Specialist positions are above average, but not game changers. The schedule is really stout. I expect the Bears to pull it together against PC, but after that, they will probably be underdogs in 10 games and favorites only against Dartmouth. Of the bubble games, Bryant is elite at FO and in goal. Middie Johnny Hackett is literally unstoppable dodging from up top. Nova gave Yale all they could handle on the road and UMass was up 13-10 over Army in the 4th quarter. Daly is an excellent coach, but the deck is stacked against him right now. If he can manage wins against PC, Nova, Bryant, UMass and Dartmouth, that would put the Bears at 5-9. Beyond that, they will have to upset three top 25 teams to have a winning season. The ‘24 HS class of recruits is excellent, so if Daly can keep Lars from poaching more of them, help is on the way!
Re: Brown 2024
Agreed on all of this. One of my bigger concerns is the one-dimensional offense and our shooting. After 2 games (I know it's early) our opponents are shooting at .349 and we are at an abysmal .205Can Opener wrote: ↑Wed Feb 21, 2024 10:20 am This season could get real spooky, real fast. Re: Brown 2024
The offense and defense looked lost yesterday. The only bright spot was between the lines (and CT had some great saves). You don't need 5-star recruits to cover guys in the crease or get more than 1 shot in a 2-minute man up. Frustrating how the excitement of a season on Saturday morning could be gone by Tuesday, but here's hoping they can turn things around. Halftime interview was a head scratcher.
Re: Brown 2024
The sad truth is that they will probably beat Providence and the coaches will think everything is ok and not make significant corrections. Terrible ball movement, predictable offense and bad shot selection is on the coaches. I think the defense would be fine with an efficient offense. Girls team has a new coach and they are playing very good. Can Opener wrote: ↑Wed Feb 21, 2024 10:20 am This season could get real spooky, real fast. If they can beat PC, I'll consider them potentially running the rest of this particular table, but I'm not betting even the milk money on it. And if the season does swirl down the $#i++er, (Georgetown & UMd after PC, anyone want to predict the spreads?) what could happen to the '24 class' commitments?: they will be watching. Also too, I hate banking on freshmen to be saviors. And now to contradict myself in the very next sentence; if the upper classmen continue to function at the current level, how long should it take before current 1st & 2nd years see significant playing time?
2 angry teams Saturday. PC drubbed by Harvard, Brown, well you know...
Bears -1.5 btw.
Re: Brown 2024
If they don't turn things around, they will certainly lose commits. Bryant easily beat Boston, so I have that game as a loss. UMass almost beat Army, Villanova lost to Yale in a close game and Dartmouth has a very good coach, they will continue to improve. This could get really ugly! Brown has a ton of talent especially at midfield, no excuse for this pathetic start. I think the coaches created a monster with #43 (34 shots in 2 games) and if you take away his easy transition goals, his shooting percentage is terrible. Brennan O'Neil takes 10 shots a game for the good of his team. He is a high percentage shooter that puts his team in the best position to win. Brown has always been my favorite Ivy league team but I might jump on the Dartmouth bandwagon soon.bearlaxfan wrote: ↑Fri Feb 23, 2024 9:23 amCan Opener wrote: ↑Wed Feb 21, 2024 10:20 am ... Re: Brown 2024
I had to look this up.. Just wow, 34 shots in 2 games with 0 assists. 26.5% shooting (9 goals) and 5 turnovers.. That is ugly for Club lacrosse.

Like the guys on the podcast said, 3 games in April 2022 are doing a lot of heavy lifting for this program.White Shoes wrote: ↑Fri Feb 23, 2024 5:48 pm clock is ticking...43-42 since 2016...11-14 against Ivy teams other than Dartmouth...6-12 since end of the 2022 regular season...something needs to change...

So, kept it close then went up 2 with 1:30 in game and lost in OT…Brown looking like a team that may not win a game this season.
Re: Brown 2024
Harvard put up 23 goals against Providence!!! Brown has the worst offensive scheme in college lacrosse. I don't think they will win a game this year and if the university is serious about Lacrosse the coaching staff should be fired immediately. I went to the game today and wasted three hours of my life!middleAgedBear wrote: ↑Sat Feb 24, 2024 2:21 pm So, kept it close then went up 2 with 1:30 in game and lost in OT…Brown looking like a team that may not win a game this season.

Re: Brown 2024
Well at least the bus ride will be short.
Couldn't make the game, watched the stream ($20 well spent ) the first half, last 10 mins of regulation, & OT. Impression from tv, regardless of the level of talent on either team, this seemed- again, on tv- like a most uninspired "rivalry game" on both sides. Maybe it was different in person.
Collapse: "break cave in crumple disintegrate drop fail faint fall down founder give way shatter topple weaken exhaust flag fold give go languish subside succumb tire weary wilt yield."

Re: Brown 2024
Freshman's 1st start at x & he went 2/2 (#7)
#10 is a senior but today he played up to what he's shown in the past. That's at least a little hopefullness
for later this year.
#11 had another good game, except he HAS to make at least one last-minute (literally last-minute) save, and didn't. But another senior.
Close D no seniors and generally they look good on-man, but once the ball starts swinging...
