Think your overreacting to a few tweets and the IL article from the other day. No SU fan is planning on a memorial day run after 1 win against Vermont. Cuse has one of if not the toughest schedule in the country and with Army, Maryland, Hop and others coming up there will certainly be some losses, team isn't going 9-0.Finster wrote: ↑Sun Feb 04, 2024 10:26 am It’s not unlikely that Cuse starts 9-0, then drops 4 of their final five games of the season (Hobart being the only possible gimme).
I realize it’s been a while, understandable, but everyone needs to pump their brakes. Vermont lost their starting defense from last year and their FOGO; that’s any teams nightmare.
Gary couldn’t have asked for a better launch code schedule than to start with UVM, Colgate (who will absolutely have a letdown Monday), and Manhattan. C’mon, guys.
Inside Lacrosse, which pumps us every second they can (is their editor a Cuse alum?!), will annoint this team ‘the best team ever’ by the 9th game. Watch.
Let’s see where we are Memorial Day. That’s the standard, not a depleted UVM.

Agreed good start but certainly a long way to go. Colgate tomorrow will be a fascinating game.

Have another drink and keep believing that Santa Claus really does come down the chimney . It was labeled a retirement but get real , JD was let go by Wildhack and it was not voluntary..SU-LAXAHOLIC wrote: ↑Sun Feb 04, 2024 7:33 am Deere was. Gait recruit and Desko retired he was not fired
Convos were already had with Deere before dismissal. If you want to credit Gait then say he closed the deal and also turned Thomson after he was committed to Michigan but not much more beyond the transfers . Looks like McCarty and Hottie are two frosh recruited by Gait who might play some .
but the reality is that Cuse fans are basically watching Desko's last two recruiting seasons which were very good after some lean classes supplemented by Gait high end NIL transfers

I could be conflating IL and posters here. I get tired of IL continually pumping us, which in years past has led to massive disappointment. If Cuse has a player make a successful skip pass, IL’s instagram posts it every day for a week.
The most impressive win yesterday to me was Loyola beating Georgetown by 8. Either the pollsters way overestimated Georgetown or way underestimated Loyola; that’s the game which should’ve gotten media attention.
I get it though, when Syracuse goes well, so too does lacrosse. It’s not up for debate.
Re: Syracuse 2024
I might be confusing IL for Fanlax posters. If so, my bad.
This is the best team Syracuse has had in a while. I ragged on Joey Spallina a bit last year, but he’s clearly launched himself into a new brand of player. When you can both create separation AND see your teammates, that makes for an incredible player. Congrats to him.
I really like the kid, Luke Rhoa. 3 shots, 3 goals. Tough as nails player.
I don’t know if it’s been discussed, but Gary seems to have mined some Maryland schools, a relatively new to Syracuse phenomenon. Rhoa, Figueiras, Trujillo, Dwan, Olexo, and I’m sure a few more. That’s an interesting change to me. Back in the day, it was rare for any Maryland kid to matriculate to Cuse. Today, it seems like we have many, and many of those are impactful. Lamolinara, Curry, and Wusnauskas (for a hot second anyway) were the first serious Maryland players on the team I can recall. My memory is shot so I’m sure I’m missing someone.
Re: Syracuse 2024
So much offensive firepower. They are going to be a bear to deal with this year. Question remains can their defense cover ACC - Big10 teams. Not sure if that is the case.
Re: Syracuse 2024
There are plenty of reasons for Cuse fans to be optimistic that the corner has been turned and they existed before the Vermont game. Much talent and depth .JeremyCuse wrote: ↑Sun Feb 04, 2024 11:03 amAgreed good start but certainly a long way to go. Colgate tomorrow will be a fascinating game.
Vermont was a depleted team and the question wasn't about outcome but margin of victory .
Recall Gait's first game coaching when many fans were esctatic after a 28-5 win against another weak team so probably best to keep the high in check until we face acc and top ten teams and now have to take Colgate seriously.
Colgate's win over PSU stunned given how big of a underdog they were , was checking their game score waiting for it to break PSU way but never did so obviously a more competitive squad than most imagined. Makes our matchup with them much more interesting and meaningful

Say it again, those were all Desko recruits . Only one that was not officially signed before JD left in 6/21 was Figures who flipped from Rutgers commit two months later . Fans should give proper credit where credit is due

They have recruited MD more frequently in the last so many years, and some of those kids were Desko recruits but to go back a little ways don't forget two players from Md, John Glatzel and Jay Pffeifer. Glatzel was one of the top defensemen in the country and Pffeifer had a nice career winning Championships in 2002/2004 and I believe was a starter in the net for 4 years.Finster wrote: ↑Sun Feb 04, 2024 11:25 am

Honestly who cares who recruited who? What does it matter and why the obsession over it? Goals don’t count any less than if they’re scored by a Gait recruit or a Desko recruit. Enough with these weirdly degrading posts.stupefied wrote: ↑Sun Feb 04, 2024 11:06 amHave another drink and keep believing that Santa Claus really does come down the chimney . Its called corrections to misinformation on a forum and have a drink is jokish comment related to a moniker
Desko did a ton for this program over many years , he left a strong foundation for the future with fruit now being reap and that should be recognized and appreciated by Cuse fans .

Re: Syracuse 2024
ender
Dwan is flying under the radar some but is a well rounded ACC caliber def . Has size that is needed on Cuse . He showed last year that he is good on ball and very off . Capable handling ball, his rip off catch in transition was a beauty

I don’t know how I forgot about Glatzel. You’re right.
I guess I was also thinking more about the sheer numbers of current players on the team from Maryland. Just struck me as a big change.
In any event, regarding who recruited who, I give credit to both Desko and Gary. If Desko recruited them, Gary has kept them, and nurtured them, so everyone can take credit. Team effort no matter who made the first recruiting call. Kudus to John and Gary.
Will be a good season. We haven’t even discussed Will Mark, who I think is with ND’s Entenmann, top in the country. The team has great potential but past experience has led me to be far more cautious than others. No matter what, this team will be fun to watch and I highly doubt any team will beat them badly.

It's all good.
3,926 for attendance. Was going to guess 4K but want to shoot too high. Nice crowd.
Re: Syracuse 2024
Very true. Retention is important , retention of recruits helped by two great historical names in game. Cuse should also give due to Petro who was the primary recruiter in his two years here . Spallinas also factored with Team 91 and LI that has been recruited heavily by the likes of Danowski

Re: Syracuse 2024
In the spirit of correcting misinformation, Deere is 100% a Gait/Petro/March recruit. Desko is out shortly after the 2021 playoffs. The period where you could even begin contacting 2023 recruits is September 1st 2021. Impossible for him to be a Desko guy in any capacity. Furthermore, Deere has discussed his meeting with Gait as a reason for coming aboard. Take care of your own misinformation first sir!
Re: Syracuse 2024
Gait did indeed close with Deere in 9/21. JD left in 6/21. Do you really believe that no interest is indicated before ?
Re: Syracuse 2024
Great start for Syracuse but that’s a weak UVM team.
The thing to keep your eye on here will be SSDM, face offs, and off ball D.
We know the O is good. As they face better teams, curious as to how they look if Spalinna gets blanketed out quickly doubled. Who is their next dodging threat? Seems like it’s their middies actually. They move the ball well and crease play is phenomenal.
