Thanks dis. I'll wade through those clips & see what I can ferret out, but it's probably an exercise in frustration until there is actually a compromise bill that will pass both House & Senate & Biden will sign.dislaxxic wrote: ↑Tue Jan 23, 2024 12:44 pmHere's some current news on the issue:
Daily Immigration News Clips – January 22, 2024
Most reporting i am seeing is saying that there has been real compromise on issues in the Senate, issues like higher bars for asylum, expedited removal authority and limits on parole, among others.
The fact that Trump has his hand up Mike Johnson's skirts is troubling...it's all about election optics to that maroon...
..
House (R)'s are wary of getting a massive bill dumped on them with a short fuzed deadline that does not afford their staff & lawyers to wade through the bill to see what's actually in it. What appears to be reform could just be eyewash, depending on enforcement requirements that bind the Exec Branch & what sneak circuits are written that allow an Open Borders Admin to circumvent the laws, like universal paroles for large categories instead of individuals, or catch & release without detention before adjudication which turn CBP/ICE/DHS into an open borders concierge resettlement service.
With the urgency for Ukraine & Israel military aid, the House(R)'s finally have some leverage. HR 2, & now the bi-partisan Dignity Act, are not extreme. They include more work permits, more green card residency, & E-verify, while closing the loopholes in the asylum laws & process which can lead to stopping catch & release. while resuming deportations again. That should reduce the pull factor, allowing the border to actually be secured.
