It has been apparent to me for awhile that there is a Russian-Iranian-Chinese strategy to deplete our inventory of effective, yet expensive, munitions, at a rate that our defense industrial base cannot sustain. Congress & the Biden Admin appear to be responding.

Ramping up the defense industrial base to quickly meet the demand for munitions and ammo has been a top priority for the Pentagon and Capitol Hill as the U.S. raided its inventories by donating missiles and artillery shells to Ukraine.

The Pentagon’s fiscal 2024 budget request sought a first-ever authority to sign multiyear contracts for seven different missiles. But there are still questions on Capitol Hill whether the ambitious plan can quickly meet the needs of the U.S. military amid Russia’s war in Ukraine, the spiraling Middle East conflict and a rush to arm Taiwan.

Yep. I’d take it to another level and it has to do with our past/current dependency on ME oil and our change in mindset. Our deep desire for electrification at every turn, and as fast as possible, plays a part. Between the US and China we have been the top importer of ME oil….those tables are turning….where we are now exporting more oil and importing from the Western Hemisphere. I believe this is the long look and will secure us as far more energy independent from the ME and create ripples of controversy that promote in fighting as the Europeans avoid Russian oil.

Play this out another 25 to 50 years, Lord knows what comes of it. But as we encourage the influx of more migrants, invest in infrastructure, expand our manufacturing, and become far more aligned with western Hemisphere countries, you could see how the potential of breaking major ties with those across the pond, puts them in more conflict with the other two in the current GPC; force those two, China and Russia to fight amongst themselves as we rise above the mess.

The point of OSs post is not being critical of our ongoing military presence in Iraq and Syria. My take is he is pointing out the ever increasing threat they are under everyday. What this attack made painfully obvious is the terrorists can overwhelm the air defense system protecting our men and women. They are extremely vulnerable and are in greater danger each passing day. What is their CiC doing about it?? Easy answer, not much at all. I hope for the sake of our soldiers that changes very soon. If not then those flag draped coffins will start showing up again at Dover. Those are bad optics for the CiC in a year he will be running for reelection. The answer involves our military being proactive instead of reactive. Those optics are not an option for their CiC either. Betcha dollars to donuts they are hiding their launchers using innocent civilians as human shields. Collateral damage is the type of thing that wakes their CiC up in the middle of the night in a cold sweat.

He says I'm "barking" at Biden but he can't produce anything critical I've posted about Biden's ME policy. I maintain the same position I did when he last trolled me on the ME situation. It's a tough problem. I don't have access to the info & intel sufficient to recommend a course of action. My only criticism has been of our NATO allies reluctance to join us in the Red Sea.

I still think we need to maintain the forces we have in Syria & Iraq to suppress IS & support the Kurds. We need to find a way to deter Iran & their proxies from attacking them. I don't know the best way to do that. Hopefully it will decrease when Israel dials back what they're doing in Gaza.

The use of Iranian made ballistic missiles is a significant threat increase that challenges our air defense capability. Patriot is not as effective as shipboard AEGIS in intercepting SRBM's.

Several U.S. military personnel were injured in a missile attack Saturday night by Iranian-backed rebels on Al-Asad Airbase in Iraq, the Pentagon said.

At about 6:30 p.m. local time, multiple ballistic missiles and rockets were fired by Iranian-backed militants from western Iraq, U.S. Central Command said in a statement posted to social media.

The base's air defense systems intercepted "most of the missiles," but "others impacted the base," CENTCOM reported.

Multiple U.S. personnel were being evaluated for traumatic brain injuries, CENTCOM said, and at least one Iraqi soldier was also wounded. No further details were immediately provided.

This marks the 144th attack on U.S. troops stationed in Iraq and Syria since Hamas launched its violent Oct. 7 assault on Israel and sparked the Israel-Hamas war. It's also one of the largest such attacks, and the second in which militia groups have fired ballistic missiles.

On Nov. 20, a ballistic missile attack on Al-Asad Airbase left eight people wounded and caused minor damage to the base itself. The U.S. killed several Iranian-backed militia personnel with a retaliatory strike.

Iran's foreign minister confirmed Tuesday that Iranian forces launched ballistic missiles at targets in both Iraq and Syria. The U.S. and Iraq condemned the deadly strikes that hit close to the under-construction U.S. consulate in the northern Iraqi city of Erbil.

What this attack made painfully obvious is the terrorists can overwhelm the air defense system protecting our men and women. They are extremely vulnerable and are in greater danger each passing day. What is their CiC doing about it?? Easy answer, not much at all. I hope for the sake of our soldiers that changes very soon. If not then those flag draped coffins will start showing up again at Dover. Those are bad optics for the CiC in a year he will be running for reelection. The answer involves our military being proactive instead of reactive. Those optics are not an option for their CiC either. Betcha dollars to donuts they are hiding their launchers using innocent civilians as human shields. Collateral damage is the type of thing that wakes their CiC up in the middle of the night in a cold sweat.

The thought of those people protesting in front of the White House accusing him of crimes against humanity makes the CiC reluctant to act. Why the UN might even give him a stern scolding.

It's a tough problem. I don't have access to the info & intel sufficient to recommend a course of action. My only criticism has been of our NATO allies reluctance to join us in the Red Sea.

I still think we need to maintain the forces we have in Syria & Iraq to suppress IS & support the Kurds. We need to find a way to deter Iran & their proxies from attacking them. I don't know the best way to do that. Hopefully it will decrease when Israel dials back what they're doing in Gaza.

The use of Iranian made ballistic missiles is a significant threat increase that challenges our air defense capability. Patriot is not as effective as shipboard AEGIS in intercepting SRBM's.

According to officials, the Jan. 11 raid targeted an unflagged ship carrying illicit Iranian-made weapons to the Houthi rebels in Yemen. Officials have said that as the team was boarding the ship, one of the SEALs went under in the heavy seas, and a teammate went in to try and save him.

The commandos had launched from the USS Lewis B. Puller, a mobile sea base, and they were backed by drones and helicopters. They loaded onto small special operations combat craft driven by naval special warfare crew to get to the boat.

In the raid, they seized an array of Iranian-made weaponry, including cruise and ballistic missile components such as propulsion and guidance devices and warheads, as well as air defense parts, Central Command said. It marked the latest seizure by the U.S. Navy and its allies of weapon shipments bound for the rebels, who have launched a series of attacks now threatening global trade in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden over Israel’s war on Hamas in the Gaza Strip. The seized missile components included types likely used in those attacks.

The U.S. Navy ultimately sunk the ship carrying the weapons after deeming it unsafe, Central Command said. The ship’s 14 crew were detained.
