Maryland 2024
Re: Maryland 2024
Seeing Burke at Attack would’ve been very scary
Re: Maryland 2024
#1 will probably be a defenseman again this year. Looking forward to the day when it goes back to an offensive player.
Re: Maryland 2024
Well they just put up the 2024 roster and no #1. Not surprised. Probably will be announced later. Also no Coffman. Still believe he will be added
They are also missing Phipps

Re: Maryland 2024
Area, I’m pretty sure Coffman was in the team Christmas photo that was posted and no one on the roster took #28.Hopefully, good signs.
Re: Maryland 2024
2024 Schedule
2/3 at Richmond
2/10 Loyola
2/17 at Syracuse
2/24 Princeton
3/3 at Notre Dame
3/9 Brown
3/16 Virginia
3/23 at Michigan
3/31 at Penn State
4/6 Ohio State
4/13 Rutgers
4/20 at Johns Hopkins
Michigan the conference opener this year instead of Penn State like it's been the last two years. This is the Terps first time playing Brown since the 2016 Final Four thriller and will be the first time playing them in the regular season since 1995. B1G Tournament semifinals and final will be at Ohio State.

Re: Maryland 2024
If it's based on on-field accomplishments, Zappitello is the only choice for #1. He's arguably the best player in the country at his position. If there's other factors like leadership and offensive-preference, then McNamey and Malever would certainly deserve it.
But it doesn't really matter who gets it. Malever's return, along with possible development from Erksa, Spanos, Whittier and others, could make the offense one of the best again. Their speed, vision (or size and strength with Spanos) could give the shooters like Kelly, Maltz, Koras and Murphy some much easier looks than last year. There's a ton of other guys who could step too. Should be an exciting year

That would put him in the Jared B., Wisnauskas, Brennan O'Neill points zone; seems like a bit of a stretch, but even if he does half of that it's still a huge upgrade for the Terps.Wheels wrote: ↑Sat Jan 06, 2024 3:17 pm I think along these lines, too.

Re: Maryland 2024
Before he hurt his knee last year, the staff looked at him as a possible 40-40 kind of player. You see what Erksa did as a freshman (26g, 22a), who was kind of thrown into the fire, and it's not very hard to see why they thought Malever might be a 40-40 kind of player. It's easy to forget that he played on the 2nd MF line as a freshman, the only freshman on offense to get any time, on that 2021 team and then started on the 2022 team and did 26g-22a at attack. Not hard to see him elevating his totals as more of a focal point in the offense instead of the 4th or 5th option.keno in reno wrote: ↑Sat Jan 06, 2024 6:19 pmThat would put him in the Jared B., Wisnauskas, Brennan O'Neill points zone; seems like a bit of a stretch, but even if he does half of that it's still a huge upgrade for the Terps.Wheels wrote: ↑Sat Jan 06, 2024 3:17 pm I think along these lines, too.

It's going to be really fun to watch how Tills and Phipps figure out playing rotations. They could go 3 lines deep at midfield without massive drop offs. I doubt they do run 3 lines, but the depth is there. What a difference a year makes.
Man...going back and looking at the scoring on that 2022 team. Crazy firepower.

That team had talent in waves. Not only on offense, where they were a total juggernaut, but also on defense, where they were also a total juggernaut. Every starting pole was an All American. Even the "weak link" in Matt Rahill was an IL HM AA. And two SSDMs were AA (with a third named from IL). Absolutely nuts.Wheels wrote: ↑Sat Jan 06, 2024 7:23 pmBefore he hurt his knee last year, the staff looked at him as a possible 40-40 kind of player. Re: Maryland 2024
And then McNaney goes bonkers starting in the B1G Tournament and carries it through the NCAA Tournament. It was unreal. All 4 shorties are on PLL rosters. Literally zero weaknesses. They ranked 1st in offense, defense, goaltending, and face-off in LaxRef's adjusted rankings. I think his system goes back to 2014. it was the first time a team had ever finished 1st in every major category like that. Wonder if we'll ever see that again.PulpExposure wrote: ↑Sun Jan 07, 2024 2:09 pmThat team had talent in waves. And that was with one of their best ssdm's out for the season; plus possibly their best player ever graduated the year before.PulpExposure wrote: ↑Sun Jan 07, 2024 2:09 pmThat team had talent in waves. Some superteam will do it again. Duke and UVA certainly accumulate the talent each year to ignite a perfect season. I thought UVA was a threat to match that success just last year. Still don't know how the 2023 Terps beat them in C'Ville, or how they lost to ND. Just shows how magical 2022 was.

Re: Maryland 2024
I'm sure some team will go undefeated, though I do think it'll take awhile. It's hard enough for professional men to keep a consistent effort over a full years schedule while getting their opponent's best effort every game, let alone a bunch of college kids. Sometimes even losing one game in the regular season takes a lot of pressure off trying to have the perfect season. It becomes an anchor...and you could even see it weighing on even that Terps wagon as the tournament played out. As good as that team was, it was worn out by the end.keno in reno wrote: ↑Sun Jan 07, 2024 5:18 pm
