There is a law on the books stating that the Treasury Department "shall" turn over the tax returns of any US citizen requested by congress for purposes of congressional oversight no matter what the reason for the request. For those not in the know the law was passed to avoid the political misdeeds that occurred during the Teapot Dome Scandal back in the twenties. Try keeping your focus on that particular political issue if you will (or can). Cleaning up political sexual malfeasance is a separate matter entirely and should be dealt with as such.
Oversight is one thing. Apparently the IRS has audited Trump as a private citizen many times over, so I'm not sure what the compelling interest is as they have never charged him with fraud or evasion. Unless, off course, this is just opposition research for 2020 disguised as oversight.
How would you know? Oh, that's right, Orange Turd Bag says he has been audited.

Yeah but he can take actions that are unlawful. Keep defending that stain.
So what.....it's a free country. Taking actions that are unlawful are the American way. Anyone from wallstreet bankster fame get charged with unlawfulness? exactly

And please, in the thousands of tRump posts, good luck finding one that "defends" him. From me.

But, at the end of the day, you don't dispute the fact that NO POTUSA can just say by bye to a law all by themselves.

NOw, if you had put a spin on enforcement of laws.....or NOT enforcing laws (see Obama's child seperation policy vs tRumps).....or ANY insider trading investigations into members of Congress, their votes.......and securities investments......who decides to investigate?

But the real news tonight is from the NY Times: "Decade in the Red: Trump Tax Figures Show over $1 Billion in Losses" https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/201 ... e=Homepage

Figures are from the tax years 1985-1994, and indirectly obtained, but convincing that the Times has the correct information...
In fact, year after year, Mr. Trump appears to have lost more money than nearly any other individual American taxpayer, The Times found when it compared his results with detailed information the I.R.S. compiles on an annual sampling of high-income earners. His core business losses in 1990 and 1991 — more than $250 million each year — were more than double those of the nearest taxpayers in the I.R.S. information for those years.
This period of time is from some time ago, but corresponds to when Trump was building his rep as a "dealmaker"

Co-Author Susanne Craig (from Twitter):
His losses were so big that in 1991 they accounted for fully 1% of all business losses declared that year by individual American taxpayers.
We now have tax info on Fred Trump & Donald Trump for a number of years. The upshot: Fred always made a lot of money. Donald always lost a lot of money.
 see bolded...What the hell does that mean?

85-94? While you're at it, why not look to see if his first checkbook was balanced. Pathetic...
They got indirect summaries from something like a bank or a casino commission, etc. The IRS actually publishes a fair amount of data about very high income individuals, and with exact numbers you can cross reference items and get information from the IRS data (which has no identifying information, just numbers per taxpayer). At least one of the reporters involved in this article was involved in the discovery of fraud in the family inheritance from father Fred and how they got money to the kids and avoided inheritance taxes illegally. Even forced the Donald's sister to retire from her judgeship to thwart a judicial investigation into this particular fraud (and therefore stopping the investigation).

More specifically, they obtained from one of these sources IRS tax transcripts (which include most lines from a filed return). Then cross -referenced the high income database to garner more information.

Oh - Trump did not pay ANY income taxes for eight of those 10 years due to the $517 million in losses for 91-92 alone...

Point is, unless the economy is tanking in 2020, no one but Trump haters and resistance types will care what Trump's biz acumen, or lack thereof, wrought some 30+ years ago. Already we know these folks won't be voting Trump anyway.

Moderates/centrists won't care if they're doing well by Trump's economy. Keep the resistance fires burning though, anyway possible. The irony is, the sustained effort continues to backfire and will only help to elect Trump again in 2020.

Of course not. He is circling the wagons, and putting in defenders of him in place so he can delay enough exposure of his hidden skeletons to maybe squeak back into office for another four years, and put off potential prosecution...

I keep wondering what you guys mean by "continues to backfire" and other such phrases...

What % of people think Trump is honest??? <40%?

What % think he's a con man? >60%?

I don't think these #'s are going to move much, though I do wonder how the Trumpists can maintain the notion that he tells the truth, or are they just refusing to admit they know he's a fraud...because he's 'on their team' and 'he fights the Dems'?

I got a chuckle out of cradle's dismissal of learning that Trump lost a billion bucks in a town year period in which he was claiming to be a huge success...and that's just the decade reported on so far...
