Go after JL Reppert. End of story. He is a former Navy player and assistant, and he is currently one of the finest assistants in DI.

Wellner forges forward as interim Head Coach :https://www.collegecrosse.com/2019/5/6/ ... next-coach
JL Reppert, Maryland Offensive Coordinator
The current offensive coordinator of the Maryland Terrapins, Reppert’s candidacy is obvious. He both played at Navy from 1996-1999, and then coached at Navy as well, from 2012-2014, before becoming part of John Tillman’s staff in 2015. The Terps offense, infamous for it’s stallball-oriented style of play and frequent slumps during NCAA Championship games in the early years of John Tillman’s tenure, has become a powerhouse under Reppert. From 2011-2014, Maryland only twice topped 11 goals per game in a season, and failed to score 10 goals in 37% of their games. In the year prior to Reppert taking over they ranked 17th in Adjusted Offensive Efficiency. After ranking 17th again in 2015, Maryland ranked 6th, 3rd, and 1st in the country in Offensive Efficiency from 2016-2018, and in 2019 is once again in the Top 10. He’s coached a Tewaaraton Award winner in Matt Rambo, a finalist in Connor Kelly, and 9 All-Americans, likely to be more once this year’s list is revealed.
Likelihood of being next Navy HC: 8/10

Interesting list. Kevin Warne is an intriguing name. He stole Coach Phipps two years ago to be his offensive coordinator and that tandem has now won back to back Big East titles. Wonder if they both would come to the Yard.old salt wrote: ↑Tue May 07, 2019 2:18 am JL is #1 on this list :Wellner forges forward as interim Head Coach :https://www.collegecrosse.com/2019/5/6/ ... next-coach

Re: Navy 2019
Let's say this happens....do you keep RW as an associate coach or do you suggest letting him go as well? If you let him go, you run the risk of his defensive standards and relationships going down the wrong path; this is the only year in which Navy has allowed roughly more than ~9 g/gm in quite some time. And keep in mind this is the new shot clock era.gymman1031 wrote: ↑Tue May 07, 2019 12:29 am Go after JL Reppert. End of story. Not questioning the talent of those coaches at all, but keep in mind they lose seniors Wittenberg, Bucaro, and Clark this year. Those 3 coupled with Carraway (jr) are the top dogs.SonnySide wrote: ↑Tue May 07, 2019 7:41 amInteresting list. Kevin Warne is an intriguing name. Your Continued Patience Will Be Greatly Appreciated - The Management
Quite the competition dilemma created. That is an interesting list from www.collegecrosse.com. Two fantastic young coaches, Ryan Wellner and JL Reppert, who are both perfect for USNA...and there are many others too this time around...just about all of whom, including former Navy coaches Reppert; Tillman; Toomey; Moran and Gilardi are preparing their teams for the 2019 NCAAT at this time. Navy MLax is a heck of a training experience for outstanding coaches.
IMHO, so, so many Navy Faithful were right after all...overspun & underdun indeed as the "...architect of building winning programs..." was actually just a demolition man. The 2012-2019 record books reality and the truth to power out-briefings speak for themselves. The Management should have just left it alone in 2011.
Through it all, the MLax Mids have shown their mettle and resolve, kudos to them for enduring it all. At least the WLax Mids have a true "...architect of building winning programs..." in Coach Cindy Timchal, who is also getting her WLax Mids ready for their 2019 NCAAT opportunity.
Re: Navy 2019
Yes, Coach Sowell is gone and your beloved former coach's treatment was avenged. Take a victory lap if you want. I disagree that Coach Sowell was "a demolition man" and the 2015-18 record was darn good, including a NCAA quarter. But I really don't care at this point. I would rather focus on Navy Lacrosse v.2020.laxxygilmore wrote: ↑Tue May 07, 2019 8:28 amIMHO, so, so many Navy Faithful were right after all...overspun & underdun indeed as the "...architect of building winning programs..." was actually just a demolition man. Lady Mids will hopefully overcome the disappointment at Ridley. What is your true "architect" doing right there? Lady Mids go direct, instead of NAPS? What other practices could be adopted by the men Mids?
Go Navy Lacrosse v.2020!

My vote would be Jon Birsner. Great fit and great coach.
Re: Navy 2019
Big fan of Phipps and Wellner, but Navy's defense was pee-poor this year. Hard to go with a first time HC at school like the Naval Academy. Either choice and the RS coaching tree continues to expand!
Either way Laxxy, wonder how long until the new coach wins an NCAA tournament game? Or comes within 1 goal of the FF. Wonder if Alberici at Army was hammered by his fan base after 2018's poor season--all he did was bounce back and win the PL tourney. Very difficult, if not impossible to continue the momentum at schools like Bucknell, Navy, Army, Lehigh, etc..many things have to align as these schools aren't able to stockpile top talent like the ACC, Big ten, etc.. Or, how are the Furman faithful reacting to the lack of any tangible success for RM in how many years???

Good name right there.
My guess is given the "youth" on the list, the salary could be dialed back if one of those guys was chosen.
Although everyone knows what the last guy was getting...

Re: Navy 2019
I was surprised by the IL article. I love service academy lacrosse but none of them are serious threats to win a national championship unless the stars align in a magical sort of way.
The SOCON is overall weak enough that maybe Torpey could be interested but High Point to Navy is a different situation.
Reppert or internal with Wellner would make the most sense or someone like Georgalas from Army, but not sure he would leave for Navy.

Re: Navy 2019
It’s simple - Georgetown and UMD offenses got better when the players got better and could execute more complex schemes. You are as good as your players let you achieve. See UMD defense this year, for example. No Ikeda, Neufeldt or Mike E., for sure.
