The constant self-promotion in this thread even when it has nothing to do with Hopkins is embarrassing. Almost as bad as that time you guys copied the transfer thread word for word without crediting

A few observations that align with what I saw last week at Hofstra:
- Ayers' effort on the ride and on GBs is obvious. PM probably loves that
- Suspect we'll be seeing a bit more of Scott Smith on the FO wings this year
- Stoebner looks like he fits in nicely at close D, with Brown in a hybrid role floating between LSM and close
- 27:23, that's the Iler I was talking about. Plants his foot, cuts to the middle and leaves his defender in the dust. That burst is going to get him on the field early in his career. I know some guys didn't play but it was nice to see him mix in with the starters.
- If you're a goalie I'm not really sure what you're supposed to do when H. Chauvette has his hands free. Close your eyes and pray? He has Degnon's range and accuracy but with a much quicker release.
- Once again Aviles is very noticeable out there, in a good way
- By my count, Angelus, Bauer, McDermott, Deans, Jaronski all did not play this fall and Raposo's status is TBD after getting hurt at Hofstra. Impossible to say what the depth chart may look like right now but young Chauv has almost certainly played his way into a role with Ayers, Iler, and Kilrain as the other freshmen in the mix
Peshko was playing with team Canada this weekend and had a sick BTB assist to Dyson Williams on the game-tying goal against USA. Good experience for him to play with all those PLL guys.

Great stuff. Thanks for posting.
Ierlan looks great. Aviles and Stroebner look like great adds. H. Chauvette can really shoot; he'll get run. As 16 points out, Ayers effort on GBs and rides really stands out. He can play.
Only downside, whomever in the stands is screaming non-stop about calls in a fall scrimmage. Not a great look.

Early on, Richmond dominated face offs but Ierlan quashed some open looks.
Evans looks faster this fall.
Hunter Chauvette has the third best outside shot after Degnon and Melendez. I agree about his quick release.
Ayers can do a lot of things for the offense. Speed, quickness and inside/outside finisher.
Aviles was a big addition.
Unusual for fall ball, the scrimmage was played with intensity and a huge amount of hustle.
Ierlan set up the clears well.

Colonel A$$hat is not a good look regardless of the situation. I am not sure why he is tolerated. There of course is a logical guess. I was hoping the regime change - even if the Jays went 0-13 - the one positive outcome would be either his absence or his behavior modified.
One thing I noticed from HOB's video - adding my thanks here too as that was above and beyond in that weather - was that Hopkins treated it like a game. Stadium announcer - scoreboard keeping score. I've been to my share of scrimmages and while the scoreboard was turned on with team logos - no score was ever kept. No announcers either. Not a bad thing - just pretty different.
Realized his first name is close to Colonel - I know it's Cornell - maybe I should have promoted him to General A$$hat.

51, your point is well taken. They played the starters as well as promising freshmen for the four quarters. The following running clock periods with no score kept allowed the coaches to see the rest of the healthy roster play in scrimmage conditions.51percentcorn wrote: ↑Mon Oct 16, 2023 7:28 am

And none of the ridiculous jersey switching from the previous regime.

Another unusual feature of the scrimmage was the quality of play. Few unforced errors and excellent goaltending by both sides in very inclement weather. I included seven Hop CTs to highlight the defensive effort.
Never have I made a 29 minute video out of a fall ball scrimmage, but this one deserved the extended coverage.

Your work this weekend and over the last many years is very much appreciated HOB. These videos are another thing that makes Hopkins lax special. Last time I checked other programs don't have fans who care enough to film fall scrimmages in the rain. Also happy that no henchmen were sent into the stands to kick you out.
Ierlan stole a few but the starting D (minus Deans and Jaronski) only gave up 6 or 7 goals in as many quarters this fall (first half vs. Lehigh and four quarters vs. Richmond). Kind of amazing the extent to which Coach K rehabilitated that group since taking over. I remember reading the IL profile about his time at UMBC and being excited about what he could bring to Homewood...he's lived up to it and more.

Superb goaltending by Ierlan.
Nice to see Webb get some action as well.
Agreed on obnoxious fan. Perennial problem.
I dunno what can be done, but I think I'd ban him from games if I had such power...

Find it funny how Hopkins made all goalies use the #0 jersey in the scrimmage
Good looking offense when there at Homewood this weekend, seems like they are deeper than years past.

Re: Johns Hopkins 2024
It just seems like the biggest joke in the world to have the announcer read the sportsmanship creed over the PA that we treat athletes/officials/opposing fans with respect and any untoward behavior will not be tolerated and then you're subjected to that BS all game long. And you can even at least understand it if it's some 19/20 year old students with some tequila or Fireballs warming their bellies and they get a little mouthy but this is a guy in his 40's maybe 50's that didn't attend the school and he's acting like a 10 year old? I simply don't get it - act your age for God's sake - it's a game. Plus he's just plain wrong half the time he screams something about the refs. Finally given the fact that I have seen some admin rep intervene in prior situations - the Duke "Socks" chant - the guy who used to dress in the female cheerleader outfit and harass opponents - I can only surmise dollars might have something to do with it - in my mind we better be hearing about the Cornell Willis bubble or new men's stalls or he would be gone in my mind. At least it appears he has cut back on profanity.MDlaxfan76 wrote: ↑Mon Oct 16, 2023 1:05 pm Agreed on obnoxious fan. Perennial problem.

Used the iPhone (waterproof) 14 ProMax at 3x optical zoom in action mode to stabilize the back and forth action in cozy Homewood Field. There is a certain grace and rhythm to lacrosse playmaking that is hard to capture in commercial broadcasts.

Re: Willis, it doesn't bother me so much for real games — depending on where you sit you can barely hear him and he often gets drowned out by a full crowd. But for a scrimmage, it's truly ridiculous. If you're doing more than a mild clap or cheer when your team scores during a scrimmage then you're doing too much. The players, refs, and coaches can hear every word, especially at Homewood where the stands are right on top of the sideline.
