Your earlier quote was like saying it's hot in August...no crap. Top 5 for years to come is a stretch, but def top 20.OSVAlacrosse wrote: ↑Thu Aug 10, 2023 9:56 amYou sound a bit prickly about my comment LAXDAD. I was simply confirming that it is two good recruiting classes but now seem to be getting more players from Private in the past it was a lot of public school kids. Also two top VA based clubs VLC and Madlax are a big target for CNU. I watched many of the current CNU players like Young (s) and others in HS and the new players are of the same high caliber so I would expect CNU to continue to be a top 5 team for years to come. I think the team is getting the best players of any of the D3 schools in VA. I know now really going out on a limb with that.laxdad1434 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 09, 2023 1:51 pmYou really went out on limb with that statement...OSVAlacrosse wrote: ↑Wed Aug 09, 2023 12:25 pmCNU's class of 2023 and 2024 recruits are from great clubs and school programs. They have always done well with top public schools players but are getting in State players from top private schools programs as well like Saint Stephens, PVI, Blue Ridge school. I predict the team will continue to be a top contender for years to comeLaxguy703 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 08, 2023 10:24 am Seems like CNU's Assistant Coach Andy Meyers is heading to Penn Sate for an open Assistant position there. Got to be happy for him, but man that is a tough loss for CNU as he has been their Defensive Coordinator, Face-Off Coach, and did a lot of the recruiting for them over the past two years.
Wondering if CNU is going to add another assistant heading into the year. Having only two coaches to support almost 60 guys will be a heavy ask for Coach Thompson and Coach Thomas. Mikey Thompson has some connections in the lacrosse world so I am assuming he will be able to bring on a solid guy for the program.
On a positive note - the CNU class of 2024 looks to be a very very strong one. I have seen a few of these kids play and they are all flat out ballers. I really like who CNU is brining in with the 2023/2024 classes. They will lose a lot of talent due to graduation, but it looks like they will be in reload mindset as opposed to a rebuild mindset. The future is bright down in Newport News.

CNU class of 2024 has 3 3star commits and some very top tier DC private and VA public school players.

The shore is calling and the Main Line lax parents usually have answered. Worth streaming to watch someone else’s school/kid play, but not worth missing the unofficial start of summer at the shore to attend.Laxattackjack wrote: ↑Wed May 24, 2023 11:33 amPhilly/ Baltimore is the best way to get final 4 weekend pumped. Just look at annapolis last weekend. Stadium was packed. I wish they would get the final 4 back to college stadiums instead of nfl stadiums. 20k fans in annapolis if a full house. 20 k fans in foxboro, or the vet, looks empty.ClaudeHenrySmoott wrote: ↑Wed May 24, 2023 10:10 am Let’s hope a place like Philly will reignite Championship weekend. Although I think getting Syracuse back into the final four is what will really get it back. No fan base travels better.
And it doesn’t matter how great cuse travels. Philly/Baltimore/Annapolis is the heart of lax. I mean that close proximity for the number of college teams, that area is just about the center and the most fans can easily travel to those locations
Would love to know the Streaming and TV numbers for the entire weekend.

Not specifically directed to CNU or any of the players mentioned, but it seems as though everybody has jumped on to the IL bandwagon and received a rating, especially in the 2024 and 2025 classes. There is no question that most of the 4 and 5 star rated kids are legit, but it seems as though there are lot more 3 star recruits out there these days. Look no further than some of the top NESCAC 2024 recruiting classes vs. the 2023 classes. Some of the NESCAC 2024 classes are loaded with 3 stars, while there were very few for 2023, which seems to suggest that a lot of these 3 stars were committing to those schools and schools like CNU, Salisbury, W&L, etc. in the past, they just did not go after a IL rating, as opposed to the 2024 class being overwhelmingly better than the 2023s

Re: CNU 2023
There is a lot of truth to this. 2023 recruiting was more impacted by COVID but IL also added a video review feature where a player can upload video and pay $299 to get reviewed. I think this leads to a lot more three star players. Five stars are typically legit. With that, I think CNU continues to do very well with in state recruits and better than any other VA school with VA private school players as well.shorelax12 wrote: ↑Thu Sep 21, 2023 10:57 amNot specifically directed to CNU or any of the players mentioned, but it seems as though everybody has jumped on to the IL bandwagon and received a rating, especially in the 2024 and 2025 classes. I know Coach Thompson never does scrimmages in the fall. CNU is a bit out of the way from everyone so the travel costs for a fall scrimmage wouldn’t really be worth it.

CNU is within 4 hours of several really strong programs
- Richmond, UVA, Georgetown, UNC, maybe High Point, etc. Obviously they have to have someone WANT to play them, but with their pedigree that shouldn't be a problem.
So is Thompson's philosophy to keep the cards close to the chest? I have a feeling my son, who also plays DIII, would grow tired of scrimmaging his own teammates for an entire fall. Curious, but obviously hasn't hurt them too much.

It isn’t a distance thing. Many D3 teams travel 4-5 hrs for fall scrimmages.

From the players I’ve talked to about it, they seem like they enjoy having the fall to themselves. Work on yourself and your team concepts. They typically do 2-3 scrimmages in the spring anyways so they still get their game reps ahead of the real games.ODACtionEmpire wrote: ↑Fri Oct 13, 2023 10:58 amCNU is within 4 hours of several really strong programs

Re: CNU 2023
It is a distance thing lol. I’ve talked to many people within the program who have stated the cons outweigh the pros when it comes to traveling 5 hours for a fall scrimmage. It costs them more money. Any competitive school that’s relatively close to them is either on their schedule(W&L, Lynchburg, H-SC, Stevenson, Catholic, etc..) or a D1 school that already has other D1 teams they scrimmage(UVA, UNC, Richmond)Laxattackjack wrote: ↑Fri Oct 13, 2023 11:38 am It isn’t a distance thing. In D3 it's all about money, or lack there of. CNU already has at least 2 overnights in there regular season.Laxguy703 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 13, 2023 12:09 pmIt is a distance thing lol. Re: CNU 2023
Every coach is different and does things for their own reasons. I would bet that cost is a part of the calculation in the fall, as they may want to spend their money on trips up North in the spring

It's not up to the player, and I really don't think most coaches care what the players like/dislike. The kids that were recruits all know what they were getting into. Besides, they have multiple intrasquad scrimmages as stated in an earlier post.Laxattackjack wrote: ↑Fri Oct 13, 2023 1:25 pmI have never met a lax player that only wants to practice and not scrimmage.Laxguy703 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 13, 2023 12:02 pmFrom the players I’ve talked to about it, they seem like they enjoy having the fall to themselves. Most d3 schools only hold 1-2 scrimmages a fall anyway. With or without those scrimmages fall ball still sucksLaxguy703 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 13, 2023 12:02 pmFrom the players I’ve talked to about it, they seem like they enjoy having the fall to themselves. Do you think coaches discuss this with players? “ Hey Jimmy how many fall ball scrimmages do want to have this year?” Laughable! Budgetary concerns play a huge part in these decisions. It doesn’t mean they don’t/won’t travel, but it has nothing to do with the players likes/dislikes.Laxattackjack wrote: ↑Fri Oct 13, 2023 3:27 pmSpoken like a coach on his way out. Show me a successful college program where players are not happy with the coach. Yes, coaches are 100% in tune with players wants.laxdad1434 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 13, 2023 3:36 pmDo you think coaches discuss this with players? “ Hey Jimmy how many fall ball scrimmages do want to have this year?” Laughable!
