Simone Biles
Re: Simone Biles
A superb athlete. I marvel at these gymnasts, springboard and platform divers that can perform these precise routines while rolling, twisting and somersaulting in the air for a few seconds....
I hope Ms Biles can keep her act together during the next year and at the Olympics...

Suni Lee helps give USA a terrific one-two punch:
Reigning Olympic champion Sunisa Lee overcomes health issue to compete at US Championships
https://apnews.com/article/reigning-oly ... f3a81d2e86
Strictly going by standings, reigning Olympic all-around gold medalist Sunisa Lee finished last at the U.S. Championships — yet ask anybody who knows her and they will view those results in a completely different light.
“I’m beyond proud of her that she was able to come out here and show what she did,” Jordan Chiles said.
“It is exciting to see her overcome everything that she has and come back out here stronger, because I think it does send a good message to the younger ones,” said Simone Biles, who won her eighth championship.
The score sheet with Biles on top and Lee at the very bottom hardly told the story of Lee’s tumultuous year dealing with a kidney-related health issue and just how much it took to even get to San Jose this past week.

Re: Simone Biles
Many moons ago I was one of many who lobbied for passage of Title IX. At that time I was hoping that it would lead to the promotion of more traditional female sports such as gymnastics (now called artistic gymnastics), synchronized swimming, rhythmic gymnastics, acrobatics, competitive team dance, precision team ice dancing (also called synchronized skating), and even Apollonian dance. Bearing in mind that Title IX is gender neutral, I was also hoping to see more mens sports such as field hockey, cricket, rugby (both codes), Greco-Roman wrestling, and hurling. Sad to say, Title IX did not help to promote these sports but, in fact, killed them in many schools. One of the sports that suffered the most was gymnastics, mens gymnastics especially so. As for womens, back in the day we had about 200 college teams around 1970. Today, I understand we have only 63. These losses have been attributed to compliance with Title IX though I do not believe this attribution is entirely warranted. The problem, as I see it, is that schools direct excessively large amounts of financial resources into major sports. This while minor sports go unfunded and then disappear.
In the old days, college sports coaches were paid no more than a professor. That 's the way it should be. There is no need to pay million dollar salaries for coaches. The money can be used to finance all the sports mentioned above while paying the coaches the same amounts as faculty members are. College sports should be about having fun, promoting good character, and good citizenship. Not about enriching coaches who have the option of working in the pro ranks or filling the pockets of school regents.
Let's spread the wealthy and have more college sports. This will likely give us many more Simone Biles, Suni Lees, and Cathy Rigbys.

Simone Biles wins US Classic ahead of hotly-anticipated Olympics return in Paris
https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/us- ... 47575.html
Simone Biles certainly looks ready for Paris with more than two months to go before the Olympic games begin. The gymnastics superstar began her bid for a third Olympic team looking as dominant as ever at the US Classic on Saturday, winning the all-around gold with a score of 59.500 – nearly two points clear of runner-up Shilese Jones.
The 27-year-old Biles, the 2016 Olympic champion, recorded the highest score on vault and floor exercise and came in second on uneven bars and balance beam in her 2024 debut.
“I was just happy to be back out there, get through those nerves again, feel that adrenaline,” Biles said. “I can’t really complain how the first meet back was.”
She did a handful of her signature skills, including hitting the Yurchenko double pike on vault and a tumbling pass that ends with a triple-twisting double-flip. Biles completed the vault — which requires her to clasp her hands to her knees while she flips backward twice — with coach Laurent Landi watching from the side. Mr Landi had been standing on the podium to spot Biles during previous attempts, a decision that cost her a half-point neutral deduction.

Olympian Simone Biles Showed Strength and Poise During SI Swimsuit Photo Shoot in Mexico
https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/other/ ... d8912&ei=6
Simone Biles has touched down in Paris for the 2024 summer Olympic games.
In the midst of an epic comeback, the history-making gymnast has perhaps the most hype around her name of any U.S. athlete. The U.S. men’s basketball team—and, most notably, LeBron James—already made it clear that their one objective in Paris (aside from winning a gold medal, of course) is to watch Biles compete and meet her if they can.
For the 27-year-old, it might feel like there’s a lot riding on this event after the happenings in Tokyo, Japan at the 2020 Olympics. But since taking a break from professional gymnastics, the athlete has only come back stronger and appears ready to take on the competition and any pressures that might come with it.
In any case, her upcoming third Olympic appearance has us thinking about Biles and her incredible displays of strength over the years. Of course, we have her gymnastics performances top of mind. But, when considering her power, we also can’t help but think of her SI Swimsuit photo shoot in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.
Her second brand feature, the 2019 photo shoot captured by Walter Chin, was nothing more than a testament to her strength and beauty. She put her poise on display in a series of pastel-colored swimsuits on the Pacific coast. Now, she’s set to do just that again—only this time, she’ll be in a signature red, white and blue leotard.
With all of that in mind, we’re taking a look back at that trip to Mexico.

7 Simone Biles photos from Paris Olympics practice that look like she's literally flying
https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/other/ ... f085&ei=19
We don't need to tell you how amazing Simone Biles is, or how she's already a legend before she's stepped foot onto the floor at the 2024 Paris Olympics in gymnastics.
But once again, it looks like she's about to prove why she's an all-time great as she competes for Team USA and tries to win more medals to add to her large pile of them.
We're already seeing her look great in training practice as the Games are set to begin, and so we decided to share some photos of her looking like she's literally flying from Thursday's session:

Simone Biles' memo to Trump: 'I love my black job.' No one is replacing gymnast at Olympics
https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/other/ ... 2a52&ei=27
Simone Biles may be a tad bit busy in Paris this week, but the U.S. gymnastics great seems to be keeping up with what's going on back home.
On Friday — the morning after winning her second gold medal of these Olympics and the day before she competes again in a bid to add to her 2024 medal count — Biles took to X to take an apparent dig at former President Trump, the Republican presidential nominee.
"I love my black job," Biles wrote.
Here's the backstory:
Trump has faced criticism for recent comments, including at a June debate with President Biden, claiming that undocumented immigrants are "taking Black jobs now."
He made a similar comment this week during a contentious interview onstage at the annual convention of the National Assn. of Black Journalists in Chicago. “I will tell you that coming from the border are millions and millions of people that happen to be taking Black jobs,” Trump said.
Asked to define a "Black job," Trump responded: "A Black job is anybody that has a job. That's what it is, anybody that has a job. They're taking the employment away from Black people. ... The Black population is affected most by that."
During the interview, Trump also criticized the Black women interviewing him and questioned the racial identity of Vice President Kamala Harris, who is of Indian and Jamaican heritage and will likely face Trump in the November election.

Simone says she may come back for the next Olympics:
Olympics-Gymnastics-Biles leaves door open to compete at LA28
https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/other/ ... r-AA1obxad
PARIS (Reuters) - Simone Biles, the most decorated gymnast in history, left the door open to possibly competing at the next Olympics in Los Angeles in 2028 after winning her third gold medal of the Paris Games on Saturday.
Asked if the Paris Games would be the last time she would ever vault in competition, the 27-year-old American said: "Never say never. The next Olympics is at home, so you just never know. But I am getting really old."
Biles has captured gold medals in all three women's events contested so far in Paris: the team event, the all-around and the vault. She now owns 10 Olympic medals overall, including seven gold.
Biles' health has been in the spotlight even since she withdrew from several events at the Tokyo Games after experiencing the "twisties," a condition involving the temporary loss of spatial awareness experienced by some gymnasts when completing high-difficulty elements.
She took a two-year hiatus from the sport after the Tokyo Games but returned to qualify for Paris with the help of a therapist and the support for her teammates.
Awesome news!
