McCarthy is a highly successful career Federal prosecutor. His record speaks for itself.
He's usually hesitant to criticize a fellow Fed prosecutor.
A DoJ prosecutor would not see bank SAR's unless they had a reason to ask for them.
HB joined the Burisma BoD in Apr '14. Geo Kent in our embassy in Kyiv sent a memo up the chain saying it was a conflict with US policy.

As do his partisan posts. Why isn't he asking why Barr put Weiss in charge? Or asking to hear from Rettig?

He's leaving this stuff out on purpose, OS.

Except that's not all he's doing in this piece. He's falling all over himself to not ask the obvious questions I've been asking you.

Wray's FBI has seen all the stuff McCarthy is talking about, and more. Yet McCarthy doesn't bother asking "why hasn't Wray opened a case on Joe?" Why not? This happened 6-10 years ago, and Wray has done nothing? Why not ask Wray what's up?

Why not? Because it gives up the game. This is a game, and nothing more. He's carrying the water for the House R's, pretending this is a vast conspiracy, without bothering the walk the whole thing through. Because now he's telling the readers that Wray is covering for Joe, but he won't say it out loud, because it ruins the game.

McCarthy is going after Joe Biden, not Hunter. That's where the goalposts are now. And they have a big, fat, nothing on Joe. Or....if one prefers.....Weiss, Garland, Wray, Rettig, and dozens of their subordinates have seen Joe's financial crimes that happened 6-10 years ago, and they are all covering for Joe.

Btw, It's on you to ignore these posts. You post at me, I respond. I'm attacking McCarthy's silliness, not you.

Diplomat tells investigators he raised alarms in 2015 about Hunter Biden’s Ukraine work but was rebuffed
By John Hudson, Rachael Bade and Matt Viser, October 18, 2019

A career State Department official overseeing Ukraine policy told congressional investigators this week that he had raised concerns in early 2015 about then-Vice President Joe Biden’s son serving on the board of a Ukrainian energy company but was turned away by a Biden staffer, according to three people familiar with the testimony.

George Kent, a deputy assistant secretary of state, testified Tuesday that he worried that Hunter Biden’s position at the firm Burisma Holdings would complicate efforts by U.S. diplomats to convey to Ukrainian officials the importance of avoiding conflicts of interest, said the people, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because of confidentiality rules surrounding the deposition.

Kent said he had concerns that Ukrainian officials would view Hunter Biden as a conduit for currying influence with his father, said the people. But when Kent raised the issue with Biden’s office, he was told the then-vice president didn’t have the “bandwidth” to deal with the issue involving his son as his other son, Beau, was battling cancer, said the people familiar with his testimony.

Kent, who also testified about how Trump’s associates raised unfounded allegations about the former ambassador to Ukraine, is the first known example of a career diplomat who raised concerns internally in the Obama administration about Hunter Biden’s board position. The Washington Post has previously reported that there had been discussions among Biden’s advisers about whether his son’s Ukraine work would be perceived as a conflict of interest, and that one former adviser had been concerned enough to mention it to Biden, though the conversation was brief.

McCarthy is a tool. Rudy Giuliani is a former fed too fwtw.

For example, you keep believing McCarthy when he gaslights that Weiss is ineligible to be sc. Bull shirt.

What about Durham? What about Patrick Fitzgerald?

OS, you've been mocking the Forum about bringing up conflicts of interest ever since Trump took office. Told us that they were fine. Mocked us for not liking them, even though they are not illegal for most people.

Now here you're citing them a problem.

Durham was not elevated to SC until the end of (R) Trump's term when he was soon to be a member of (D) Biden's DoJ & probably turning over the CT US Atty job to a Biden (D) appointee.

The plea deal fell apart because the Fed prosecutors would not guarantee to the Judge that they might not still investigate & charge further crimes.

Hunter committed crimes, but his taking a position with Burisma was not a crime. They've known that since 2014. But Hunter did commit other crimes, as he has admitted.

So why move to SC status now?

To remove all appearance and question of conflict, given the public attention and right wing drumbeat and, more practically importantly, to enable Weiss to bring any cases, or threaten to bring any cases, against Hunter in their proper jurisdiction, which apparently is not Delaware. As long as the plea deal was the likely outcome, Weiss didn't need SC status...the reality of hands off and not being replaced during the turnover was sufficient.

But if you think this is about Joe and the issue was known back in 2014, then the question is why Barr didn't make Weiss an SC if he saw Joe had potential crimes? He did it with Durham, no problem, foreseeing conflict with the Biden DOJ, why not for Weiss? Nope, he didn't see evidence of crimes because there was no crime, it ain't illegal for Hunter to have these gigs and everyone knew it...

And illegality was your standard...heck, even "process" crimes, laughed off by you...

No, it didn't. That issue was resolved in 10 minutes...Hunter was going to have to risk it and he agreed to it then and there...the deal fell apart because the judge was unwilling to be the arbiter as to whether Hunter violates his probation going forward and Hunter and his team are unwilling to trust a future MAGA GOP to not blow it up for no good cause. They trusted the judge.

And they couldn't resolve that in plea discussions subsequently...and so it's all back on the table. With Weiss having his hand strengthened by the threat of potential cases in different jurisdictions.

They will likely reach a new plea deal.

MDLax is pointing out something different…. Old Soldier doesn’t believe people should be investigated unless they will be found guilty. He has said so himself. Trying to determine guilt or innocence is not what he expects. He only supports investigations to confirm guilt….that has been his position. Not much needs to be “cleaned up”. So what? Both were doj insiders when appointed. Both overstayed their typical tenures when administrations turned over. And what about Patrick Fitzgerald’s appointment?

You need to find a new legal sage. McCarthy just feeds you trash. Like this:

In reality, Weiss remains a high-ranking Biden Justice Department official who is ineligible to be a special counsel — at least by regulation as opposed to Garland’s hocus-pocus. A special counsel is an attorney brought in from outside the government, while Weiss is the Delaware U.S. attorney.

That is just false/wrong. And whoppingly mis-leading. Since it overlooks two other SC appointments THAT ARE EXACTLY THE SAME. Well not totally exactly the same -- since Durham and Fitzgerald were appointed by Republicans.

GMAFB Salty.
