There's a reason why Maryland hasn't been the same since she left. UNC's coaching staff is absolutely stacked
Very good player
Quiet personality
Will be over shadowed by McCool
Kind of how Emily Parros was a soft spoken coach who imo didn’t do much to contribute to UNC success .
2022 team won in spite of coaching
Should have won 1-2 more championships with better coaching
IMO

Skill as a player has little relevance to skill as a coach. There are plenty of excellent players -- in women's lacrosse and every other sport -- who cannot coach their way out of a paper bag.

Daddies don't let your daughters be Tar Heels.
Mighty harsh criticisms there, Madlax.

Glad someone refuted that laughable piece of powder blue, pom-pom waving puffery. Nicely done, Madlax.

They seemed to have a the right combo with Dowd/levy but covid happened ….and then Dowd was gone. Succession of asst coaches…all of them Midfielders which doesn’t always translate with an attack based offense . Cordingley was an attacker but, again, will have to be the bigger voice over Mccool.

I wouldn't call a 59-6 record over the last 3 years, with two NC appearances, an indicator of a poor coaching staff.
I'd guess damn near every other coaching staff in the country would like to have that record.

Also, a big part of coaching is recruiting. Arguably, Levy is the best in the business at that, at least currently. I don’t care how good a coach you are, you have to have the horses.

100%. Don't think Levy is the best coach when it comes to X and Os but she's a hell of a recruiter and her kids play hard for her.

To be fair, lots of coaches aren't involved in tactical details and are more in the mold of football coaches where they set culture, motivate and manage assistants. Could say the same thing about Amonte, Halfpenny, Kimel, Julie Myers, and Chris Sailer and several more.

Having had kids who have played for both types of coaches, my daughter actually preferred the most hands off head coach. Felt like they had better practices and could adjust more in games when coordinators were given more authority.

Excellent point and agreed. Head coach sets the tone of the program, sets style of play philosophy, hires coordinators, recruits hard, and steps in with tactical decisions if and when needed. Like a CEO….

In what universe!? The top 5 programs? The overwhelming majority of DI Head coaches COACH or should be coaching. In addition to all of the other tasks that go with being a head coach. This princess style that you describe is a myth. My daughter had a coach who, base on her experience at a top 5 program, thought she could behave this way at an Ivy quickly moved on. And if I am a family looking for a mentor, teacher, leader, I am looking for a COACH.

I didn’t say they don’t coach. But they often aren’t the ones doing the most coaching during games. Or in practices. Saving your thoughts and suggestions for impact is very effective.
So I disagree. Am I particularly disagree that the “coaching” aspect is the most important part of a players experience. It’s the character of the head coach and the tone she or he sets for the program that will determine a players happiness. Not whether the coach is great at teaching a trail check…

We are going to have to disagree. Commenting as a former student athlete, a good COACH has to do all of the above. AND ride my ass and teach me how to be better if I can’t deliver a good trial check.
