Maryland 2024
Re: Maryland 2024
Thanks Area. I remember seeing him play at Bullis and watched his career for a bit At OSU. He was playing safety. Would have liked to see him in lacrosse again. He was a great athlete.
Re: Maryland 2024
Happening this week is the 2023 National Seniors ALL STAR game is set for Friday July 7th at 7pm in the Navy stadium. Incoming recruit Elijah Stobaugh (Midfield) will be on team National. That team’s coaches are Spanos, Zappo, and Ruppel. Think you will be able to watch on YouTube
Re: Maryland 2024
Heard McNaney is there also
Would be good to see him
Would be good to see him
Re: Maryland 2024
McNaney didn’t look to be on the sidelines. But this game was the kickoff for the weekend tournament. So he maybe working with those games. I know he and Weirman are running a camp, with guess coach Jared, in a couple weeks.
You could see that Zappo was wearing what look to be a brace on his wrist

Re: Maryland 2024
So we're only 14 months removed from the best season in history yet board comments are 25% of Rutgers. How about some Terps '24 talk...
Seems like the Terps have fallen well behind Duke and UVA in the last 2 cycles of recruiting and transfers, unless Vermont had the steel curtain of defenses last year.
So it feels alot like a year ago where Maryland will enter the season at a pretty sizeable disadvantage at least on the offensive side of the ball. Tough to match bona fides with Shellenberger/Dickson/Cormier/Schutz/Millon/Sunderland/Boyden and maybe 6th year Miezan or World POTY O'Neill/McAdorey/Zwada/Williams et al. Then there's other B1G and top 10 teams that have strong lineups as well.
Somewhat surprisingly, Maryland has a ton of returning talent on offense. But it takes difference makers to make a great team. Erksa is already there. Spanos can get there with some achievable improvement. Whittier is probably the next returnee who can win 1 on 1 most times. Koras could be there too, and Malever would be an all-american if he returned to his prior (massive leg injury) trajectory. Kelly and Maltz are good, and Murphy could score 50 or 12 depending on a few factors. Then there's guys like Siracusa, C Koras, maybe Aitken, Signorello who got time early, Brennan and others.
So there's a lot of returnees but a lot of unproven next-level talent, and certainly behind at least the 2 most talented teams Duke and UVA (not to mention Michigan, PSU, JHU and others). How we ever beat UVA in C-ville is beyond me; if our team didnt have Maryland on the jerseys, or if that was a football or basketball game, that would be seen as one of the greatest upsets of all time.
Defense should be solid. Zap is the best 1 on 1 defender in the country. Schaller looked real promising. Hopefully there's good competition at #3 because some of the freshmen who didnt play last year looked promising in the fall and we have the entire Vermont defense as well. Assuming Larkin is really good, LSM should be fine. SSDM did take a huge hit losing Dante. Hopefully Coffman is healthy, because he was great 3 years ago. Goalie is fine.
I'd imagine MD will be ranked about #5 preseason. 2023 was way over-ranked based on the team of history in '22. #5 is fine and normal for most years and Tillman almost always finds a way to the final 4, but man the top 2 teams are just so much more talented on offense than the rest. Being the Best will take a ton of work.

Re: Maryland 2024
I'm probably more bullish on the '24 Terps. All of the youth from last season comes back ready to go. Malever has looked really good in his rehab. He's gotten stronger and dropped some weight, so he's faster and quicker than he was the last time we saw him. I won't be surprised at all if he's wearing #1 for the next 2 seasons.keno in reno wrote: ↑Thu Jul 27, 2023 9:20 pm So we're only 14 months removed from the best season in history yet board comments are 25% of Rutgers. Kelly, Malever, Erksa, and Maltz returning at attack.
Koras, Brennan, Murphy, Spanos, Whittier, and Siracusa all return at midfield.
Zappitello, Burlace, and Schaller all return at close.
McNaney comes back in goal or Ruppel remains the starter in the goal.
Wierman back at FOGO.
Nick Redd and Eric Solar return at SSDM. Josh Coffman returns from knee injury. Add in the Vermont transfer at shorty. I wouldn't be surprised to see Brennan move to shorty, nor would I be surprised to see Signorello moved to shorty. Tills wants to run again, and you can only do that if you're deep in your rope unit and have threats to score. What made that 2022 team elite was not just the depth at shorty but how good all of them were in transition.
McDonald moves up to the top LSM. The Vermont transfer becomes the second LSM. Where does Larkin fit in? He redshirted last year. Does Schaller return to the LSM spot where he was a HS All-American? Larkin looks the part of a D1 starter, but I would think he'd play close not LSM.
Of course, ND, Duke, and UVA will be preseason 1-3. Maryland is probably 4 unless the pollsters put Hop at 5. This team is built for Memorial Day.
Re: Maryland 2024
Terps return plenty. Guys will improve from last year offensively. Rope unit will need to have some guys step up. No Trader hurts. But not many expected Higgins(clev st) or Alex Smith((Hartford) to be the players they became at Md. Guys step up, it’s Maryland and Tillman.
Re: Maryland 2024
If McNaney has recovered there is no way Ruppel will start
Re: Maryland 2024
9 months should be sufficient. If it were football another 3 months
Re: Maryland 2024
The old UA All American game (now New Balance) is this Saturday at 8:00
Looks like game will be on ESPNU
Maryland recruits playing
North; Thomas Gravino, Elijah Stobaugh
South; Sean Creter

Who wears #1? Malever has the seniority and experience, but Erksa just has that “it” factor. I could see him wearing it the next three years.
I also wouldn’t be surprised to see Zap wearing it, but not sure what he’s like in the locker room; Makar’s leadership qualities were probably a big reason he was the first defender to wear it.

No idea about the leadership/qualitative stuff, but there's nobody close to earning #1 besides Zappitello based on actual play the last 3 seasons.MoralTerpitude wrote: ↑Sat Jul 29, 2023 12:39 am Who wears #1? Editing this to include Wierman; he deserves the 1 as well

3 goals for Gravino, 2 in transition.
Stobaugh had a goal and an assist.
Both played we’re playing two way last night.

Pretty sure Dickson is out of eligibility at UVAkeno in reno wrote: ↑Thu Jul 27, 2023 9:20 pm So we're only 14 months removed from the best season in history yet board comments are 25% of Rutgers. How about some Terps '24 talk...

Look out for 2023 red shirt freshman defenseman George Stamos. I predict he will be a significant contributor in 2024. A great athlete & a great character guy.
