Coaching Carousel 2022-2023
Re: Coaching Carousel 2022-2023
Kind of late in the summer for coaching moves. I wonder who Kayla looks to bring in? Maybe Nicole Levy or recent Cuse grad like Carney or Tyrell.

Take a closer look. Only scheduled 14 games. Embarrassing loss to Brown and loss to Vermont, can’t happen. Also wins against Merrimack!, Columbia!, HC!, Dartmouth and STONEHILL!!!watcherinthewoods wrote: ↑Tue Jul 25, 2023 8:13 pmLisa Miller? You mean Devon Wills, right? Makes the “admirable job” laughable.
Devon should start with what she knows and get better goalie play. In the bottom of the Ivy, every year since she got go Cambridge With her recruits.
Miller had better results, call it fair. Devon has been underwhelming and a disappointment.

Skiera? Before sure. With what Army amazingly has done without her and the same talent, makes me wonder?suffolk wrote: ↑Tue Jul 25, 2023 8:31 pmKristen Skiera right now would be the successor at DukeWheels,Wheels! wrote: ↑Tue Jul 25, 2023 8:05 pm Smart move for Kenzie. She would never get credit for Cuse offense with Kayla at the helm. Her star burns to bright. She can move back home, close to the Kent lax tribe. Anderson, offense coordinator at H, has underperformed with extremely lack luster results in a weak Ivy League. Hopefully Kenzie can inject some dynamic concepts to get the Crimson jumpstarted.
Also I believe that Apuzzo is the next piece off the board next year. Duke AD will call on her to lead t bye floundering Blue Devils. With a strong showing Kenzie can move cross town to Chestnut Hill.
And 3 ACC wins a year over the bottom teams( new Pitt) and a .500 record. I know the talent is building VT but I hope Duke goes for young and hungry leadership and not an alum for alum sake.
With the timing of Myers announcement this year, with limited choices, late in the cycle, timing of coaching will be early. AD’s have to be proactive and strike early to get choice of talent.

I believe Skiera has VT moving in the right direction. She’s got to get more production from X this coming season and will need to replace some talented defenders. But she has one of the better draw specialists and goalies in the ACC. I like them to battle it out with Clemson and UVA for fifth in the conference. If they pull it off that should get them into the NCAAs.Wheels,Wheels! wrote: ↑Tue Jul 25, 2023 9:45 pmSkiera? Before sure. I’m sure she’s building the talent, post Sung. Best goalie in the ACC, sees more shots(savable and mostly unsalable) and just keeps competing. Defense had plenty of breakdowns and still she kept VT in a lot of games. Fun to watch.VAMomGlax2019 wrote: ↑Tue Jul 25, 2023 10:00 pmI believe Skiera has VT moving in the right direction. I just want to see a young injection of leadership at Duke. I want to see the old competitive revivals return. Just me.

We have to agree to disagree on this one. They beat cornell and Yale last year … Yale was ranked at the time. I am fairly sure 1st win over ranked team in quite a while. Close losses to Princeton and Penn and a win over coastal Carolina. With COVID disrupting her second and third season at the helm, I think the jury is still out.Wheels,Wheels! wrote: ↑Tue Jul 25, 2023 9:28 pmTake a closer look. Only scheduled 14 games. Kenzie's gonna have her work cut out for her, seems to me as
if there's quite a difference in caliber of player and style of play.
Cuse's high powered offense with some mighty good stick handlers
playing a pretty fast game with crazy good ball movement in a wide
open and creative offense. I've never seen that from Harvard, have
never been too impressed by the girls in crimson (no offense intended
there just two different levels of play). Gonna miss her, hate losing Kenzie.

Ok, but Yale was reeling at the end of regular season. 3 Ivy losses to derail a fantastic early start. They pulled it together for tournament play, put Yale win in context.watcherinthewoods wrote: ↑Wed Jul 26, 2023 6:52 amWe have to agree to disagree on this one. Also I’m bothered by the lingering COVID excuse. Mens side came out in historic position, of winning. Can’t blame Ivy/ COVID with men’s dominance.
Maybe we should look at women’s coaches leadership?? Haha.

Fair enough, but I failed to mention that Harvard also dealt with injuries this season ... devastating to any roster, but especially in the Ivies that often do not have depth on the bench.Wheels,Wheels! wrote: ↑Wed Jul 26, 2023 8:09 amOk, but Yale was reeling at the end of regular season. 3 Ivy losses to derail a fantastic early start. As far as COVID goes, the Ivy men in 2022 had an incredible season, but came back down to earth in 2023, with continued roster disruption related to two lost seasons being one of the factors.
Not sure what you mean by leadership, but Wills was not embraced by the 2019 and 2020 classes ... long gone now. Not sure what the culture is in Cambridge lately. For my money, Alex Frank and Karen Corbett are "top of the class" in the Ivies.
Re: Coaching Carousel 2022-2023
Biggest challenge that Harvard has is facilities. They’re old and antiquated. Not competitive with the rest of the Ivy’s or other programs they’re competing with players for on the girls side.

I’m with watcher. This season was positive for Harvard and dismissing Yale win out of hand is silly. Wheels listed the wins over teams that weren’t impressive but then omitted Yale. And their late season form was strong with close games against good teams.
Facilities are average but not bottom of league.
Kenzie Kent will add some pop to recruiting. Harvard isn’t going to be syracuse…but it could challenge penn and Princeton and Yale in time. Last time I checked, Harvard is still a pretty good academic draw….

Re: Coaching Carousel 2022-2023
Harvards weight room, locker room, training room and other amenities are neck and neck with Columbia’s for worst in the Ivy. I saw each school last fall. Its a negative and it does impact recruiting. They lost multiple players last year that they offered because of the facilities.
That said, they steadily improved as a team thru the year and they are building something there. Although they missed on a lot of their top recruits in ‘24 class.
This is the first season with all of Devon’s recruits on the roster so it’ll be a good judge of just how the program will fare under her.

Absolutely love the Kent hire. Will spark that offense and be a draw in recruitingWomenslaxxfan wrote: ↑Wed Jul 26, 2023 5:26 pm I’m with watcher. Caylee Waters to UVA as an assistant headcoach. Good week for former Heels. Levy's footprint growing throughout the sport.

The Gait schooled Levy's footprint.

What it means is that I connected the name with Nicole and blew it altogether.
Shoulda been but wasn't thinking UNC there.
