Was thinking about it more and (aside from suggesting you check out Au Sable Farms while up there) if you come through Binghamton there's a place on the river, used to be a weird sex clothes shop, that was acquired and turned into a Thai restaurant that's solid even for larger city cuisine standards and a great story. Called Thai Time. Owned by one of the plethora of Laotian refugees I went to school with. He went to Boston after HS and worked in kitchens, came back to Bing and told me he couldn't even get a job washing dishes at Red Lobster despite real kitchen work in real restaurants and he and his father scraped pennies together, got an SBA loan and renovated the building and opened it up years ago. A true good story and legitimate place to eat not just to prop up a good guy and story. Basically on the corners of Front and Court St on the west and north side of the rivers (immediately west, deck out back is above the Chenango River. So if coming through and that cuisine works I'd encourage you to hit that and if possible say you heard about Von (don't ask me to spell his full birth name) and his story from a delinquent you know who grew up in binghamton.youthathletics wrote: ↑Mon Jul 17, 2023 11:29 amEnded up heading straight to Wilmington NY, and stayed at a great lodge just outside Lake Placid. Oh my....was it bliss. in the 50's that evening, brisk clean air for morning walk around 6 am, clear sky, campfire, bourbon, cigar....was hoping to catch the Northern Lights (was said they may be visible....nope). Walked Lake Placid loop with the wife and Dobie, had a great lunch in a little sandwich shop....they provided some nice bacon for a dog treat. Got to watch some Olympic Training on the Ski Jump as a bonus.youthathletics wrote: ↑Wed Jul 12, 2023 6:50 pm Just saw Vermont is about to get pounded again: https://www.facebook.com/NWSBurlington
Headed in to Plattsburgh Friday afternoon. Had an absolute blast with my son, his wife, and their dog. Plattsburgh appears to be investing in the city....bunch of construction downtown, some really nice small shops and restaurants popping up, nice water/garden park. Spent an hour or so in the Corner book shop.....lovely owner named Wendy. Great soft serve at a place called IceBurgh Creamery. All is good.
