Re: Navy 2024
Based on Hayashi's Twitter profile, he's direct entry. Ghobriel will be missed, but I wouldn't be surprised if we see Colin Shadowens '26 make a considerable leap at the X this year, as he showed some promise when he got reps.old salt wrote: ↑Thu Jul 13, 2023 8:17 pm Future FOGO candidate ? In other news about new arrivals on the Yard for NavyMLAX, it looks like A.J. Marsh out of McDonough, who had a great year, is also a direct entry according to this article about post-season recognition for Marsh which talked about upcoming Plebe Summer: https://www.usalaxmagazine.com/high-sch ... o-a-leader
With Kyle Fairbanks graduating, I wonder if we might see Marsh competing for some time at close defense? If not, it's likely we'll see him in the LSM rotation.
Re: Navy 2024
Based on returning game experience, he should have a good shot at joining the rotation at either position. His FO wing experience might prove to be a factor. 2 key players from the MIAA champs !The Orfling wrote: ↑Sat Jul 15, 2023 12:47 pm With Kyle Fairbanks graduating, I wonder if we might see Marsh competing for some time at close defense? Agree about Shadowens at FOGO. Always gotta have a 1A & 1B.

Re: Navy 2024
Yes, great point about a potential contribution as a FO wing. As the Notre Dame - UVA NCAA semifinals game this year demonstrated most recently in a high profile game, there's the ability to make adjustments with wing play even where one team's FOGO in a vacuum would win more of the clamps.old salt wrote: ↑Sat Jul 15, 2023 5:34 pmBased on returning game experience, he should have a good shot at joining the rotation at either position. Navy's home-state recruiting is looking good these days!

Anyone with insight as to why the younger Gregorek flipped to Hopkins?

Re: Navy 2024
Milliman at Hopkins has been working the decommitment angle this year -- JHU also flipped an impressive looking '23 attackman from Yale, which doesn't generally lose that many to flips/transfers. I'd say it is likely more indicative of Hopkin's rising fortunes (traditional power gets to quarterfinals of NCAAs after a few lean years) than a reflection on Navy, but you never know. On the bright side, earlier this summer Navy got a guy who had committed to JHU who is intriguing: https://nlfrankings.com/player/ben-morris/essorcalveritas wrote: ↑Sun Aug 06, 2023 1:17 pm Anyone with insight as to why the younger Gregorek flipped to Hopkins?

Ancient history JHU poaching from Navy.....See Brendan Schneck 1980.....
Re: Navy 2024
Didn’t Chic transfer to the Hop from Navy?
And there have been a few others besides Brendan and Deece.

Re: Navy 2024
I think he started there but left before playing lax.
Re: Navy 2024
I searched a couple of bios and could not find a Navy reference. Doesn’t mean he didn’t but it lengthens the odds

Ciccarone, ... grew up in nearby Annapolis, spent two years in the Marine Corps and then enrolled at the U.S. Naval Academy. His stay there lasted six months. "The restrictions at the Academy were much greater then," he says. "To me, that wasn't the way to spend four of the best years of your life." The following fall (1958) he was at Hopkins. There he played single-wing tailback on the football team and midfielder in lacrosse under Scott, progressing from third-to second-to first-team All-America in his three varsity seasons.
Re: Navy 2024
Terrific. I knew he was a Marine but not about his brief stay at USNA
Freddie Smith was an awesome D coach. In my opinion the best.
Thank you

Back when SI writer could write.
Curiously, 1975 was supposed to be one of those off years when Hopkins would finish perhaps as low as fourth in the country.

Another departure, in John McCurry from NAPS to Delaware.
Liam Gregorek flip from Navy to Hop is very interesting. His younger brother (Gavin) was on the 2023 Navy Lax Team. I bet the younger brother had a lot to do with the flip. The Navy Staff was very vocal with Gavin in a negative way, let's see what happens in the fall.

So is younger brother in HS is older then the one in college Did more Gavin get yelled at. you sound uninformed when you speak about things you have no full knowledge of.
