Looks like Coach Gwyn was still out trying to recruit this past weekend?
CUC has had some tough sledding over the last 3 years. Really since the program started... which makes one wonder how well its supported.

He’s finishing out the summer recruiting and the position will open up next month. He’s going back home according to a source that’s part of the program.

What’s with these young coaches getting homesick and leaving their jobs and the players and the school hanging?

Re: Coaching Carousel 2023 - D3
Ill push back on this, the avg American lives just 18 miles from where they grew up. Additionally in the avg American changes jobs 3-7 times in a lifetime. This isn't just a young coach thing.. You just are looking at it from a lacrosse coaching perspective. Most college coaches have to move away from "home" or any type of family and friends to get their career started. Usually to a non traditional area and to weaker programs. A few years of struggles added, lack of true "good jobs", on to the fact that it is getting harder and harder to support yourself or a family on a coaching salary and burn out is going to happen. Remember lacrosse coach sounds like an awesome job to so many young just out of college players until they realize(like most people in every profession) that there is more to the profession then just being on the field. I know plenty of people who wanted to get onto Wall Street, or Sales, or medicine at a young age until they realized what the profession really entailed.River Donkey wrote: ↑Tue Jul 11, 2023 8:44 am What’s with these young coaches getting homesick and leaving their jobs and the players and the school hanging?

Re: Coaching Carousel 2023 - D3
I'll also add this. Cost of living is clearly going up. Schools are struggling to fill beds/dorms and that doesn't help either. A lot of these smaller Division 3 programs are underfunded and under supported. Like mentioned above, these young HCs often have so much on their plate and are paid 1/4 or 1/2 of the actual work and time they are putting into the university. And to be honest, what is the true benefit of grinding your ass off, it's tough for young D3 guys to make the immediate jump into D1 coaching. That might change now with the addition of a third assistant for D1 programs. But still, that third assistant position isn't making great money either. The other reality is that there aren't a ton of incredible jobs in D3 and those jobs rarely, if ever, come open. You really have to love the grind and be dedicated to the program you are at if you are expecting a young HC to stay at their program for more than 3/4 years when they probably begin to realize there isn't a massive payoff for that hard work. How many of these coaches are getting significant raises for their success? So where's the incentive to grind your tail off to get the program to new heights when again many of these universities are under tighter and tighter budgets and I promise you that the last place the money will be going will be into athletics.
Re: Coaching Carousel 2023 - D3
Hell you see D1 assistants, D2/D3 HC's leave the profession all the time...It's not sustainable unless you have generational wealth or a spouse who can offset the lack of money. A lot of time of away from family is not worth it imo....

Very underpaid and under respected profession. Little opportunity for advancement or salary growth without switching jobs, and very challenging work-life balance.River Donkey wrote: ↑Tue Jul 11, 2023 8:44 am What’s with these young coaches getting homesick and leaving their jobs and the players and the school hanging?

Don’t forget shortening shelf life for coaches. It’s mind blowing to think how many good coaches have come and gone over the years.D3LaxFan2 wrote: ↑Tue Jul 11, 2023 3:14 pmVery underpaid and under respected profession. Don't forget about the cost of daycare. Closer to home is closer to free babysitting.D3LaxFan2 wrote: ↑Tue Jul 11, 2023 3:14 pmVery underpaid and under respected profession.
