Koleton Marquis has 21 pts in his last two OJLL games. Yes, you read that correctly. His team, the Orangeville Northmen, is now 15-0, and he's third in the league in points. Collison is not far behind, but he's played in fewer games.
Assuming Degnon does not return, excited to see how that spot shakes out as there will be a bunch of intriguing options — whoever emerges will probably have made a convincing case.

Re: Johns Hopkins 2024
Iler missed a lot of time, his program shut down for Covid more so than many others and San Ramon had fallen back since their early 2010s to 2018/2019 high point.
Fortunately Iler was able to do the PG year at Western Reserve.
Iler’s progression reminds me of Austin French who put up a lot of points for the Pios.

Not exactly surprising news, but good for Coach Kelly. Glad he'll be extra incentivized to hang around now that he's getting a paycheck to do it

Iler is a fun player. Some of these California kids have a dodging style that is so creative that it borders on reckless. He reminds me a little bit of how Ryder Garnsey plays. Definitely has a swagger to his game that you like to see. To my knowledge he doesn't have much box experience but there's some Canadian influences mixed in with the more traditional downhill dodging you see in the US. That explosive first step and ability to separate could get him on the field pretty quickly, like it did for English.

Re: Johns Hopkins 2024
I'm glad the NCAA relaxed it's rules on this. Some teams, like basketball, have more coaches than players. Why has lacrosse only gotten 3 full-time? I'm glad things worked out for Kelly. He was a pretty amazing offensive player and he definitely can help at both ends of the field given his work with the goalies.Ruffled_Feathers wrote: ↑Wed Jun 28, 2023 10:36 am https://hopkinssports.com/news/2023/6/2 ... coach.aspx

Larry Quinn, Dave Allan, Kelly. Has the issue been the recruiting of goalies, the coaching, or the defense in front of the goalies?Ruffled_Feathers wrote: ↑Wed Jun 28, 2023 10:36 am https://hopkinssports.com/news/2023/6/2 ... coach.aspx

It was yet another stupid NCAA rule. Glad it was changed.

HF16 or 51 posted a pdf or something the program sent out to insiders like them and I think the last page was a checklist of program fundraising needs. I'm guessing after last seasons success we're starting to see the lucre flow to the CLC and announcements like this evidence that the needs are being met by many of you.DocBarrister wrote: ↑Wed Jun 28, 2023 12:34 pmCongratulations to Coach Kelly!Ruffled_Feathers wrote: ↑Wed Jun 28, 2023 10:36 am https://hopkinssports.com/news/2023/6/2 ... coach.aspx

Would've been helpful if they'd put out a list of people with program ties in this international tournament, but I guess I'll rely on hf16.

Worthwhile just to watch the high level team play,
Marquis of course, along with Spallina, Trey Deere, Liam Matthews,

Lawrenceville finishes #1:
https://www.insidelacrosse.com/article/ ... helm/61784
"Kilrain, a defenseman, and Hunter Chauvette, a lefty attackman, both left Culver to join Posner at Lawrenceville. They’re both headed to Johns Hopkins. Along with fellow team captains, face-off specialists Hale Brown and Robert Simone (Army), the quartet formed an unbreakable culture. Lawrenceville ended its season with a double-overtime 14-13 victory over Brunswick (Conn.) in the Prep Nationals championship, having trailed 12-9 in the fourth quarter. Behind for most of the game, the Big Red’s indefatigable will would not bend."

Nice post from Quint. Those long distance calls to set that game up must have cost some $.

The Japan / Johns Hopkins connection. Yusuke Sasaki, catalyst along with Norio Endo, Ross Jones and Bob Scott - brought lacrosse to Tokyo in 1986. Yusuke became an exchange student at JHU in 1989 and was student mgr. His impact huge.

Re: Johns Hopkins 2024
i think the possible significance of Burke's instagram goal is he is naturally right handed according to IL and his highlight tapes and that is a nice lefty rip. The individual IL analysis raves about him and scores him at a 91 - yet he is a 3 star - shows you how flukey and unreliable these little snippets can be. I guess he PG'd at Hotchkiss - probably a good move lacrosse wise as stats now cite him an inch or two taller and 15 lbs heavier.

Hopkins also went to the Soviet Union snd the UK as part of growing the game,jhu06 wrote: ↑Sat Jul 01, 2023 11:02 am someone named Liam Burke apparently headed to homewood, winning games

Re: Johns Hopkins 2024
Pretty sure Dave Allan had the role of working with FOGO's not the tenders, nor did I see him on the recruiting trail when my goalie son was coming up. I don't think he was in the lead role for recruiting, nor training, tenders at least not during the era in which goaltending went downhill versus earlier eras of tender after tender excellence.
That said, he was by far my best goalie coach, excellent technique and drilling, detail oriented...same as he was as a field tactician. Tremendously successful in both stints as HC at Gilman.
I don't know that Quinn was involved in the recruiting either...full time job as lawyer.
As I've written earlier, I think goalie recruitment got fouled up primarily during ER.

What is your opinion of Ierlan? Can he thrive in Hopkins' current defensive system?MDlaxfan76 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 03, 2023 9:31 amPretty sure Dave Allan had the role of working with FOGO's not the tenders, nor did I see him on the recruiting trail when my goalie son was coming up. Yikes, I have not studied him closely, nor his fit with a particular "system", nor have any valid insight into his personal motivations for the coming year. The latter may be the most important factor.Sagittarius A* wrote: ↑Mon Jul 03, 2023 10:17 amWhat is your opinion of Ierlan? With that immense caveat, I can say that he's experienced and has performed solidly against excellent competition, though with the variability one might expect against such competition. Some excellent games, some not. I'm sure he didn't like his trend line in his last 4 games, all under 50%. Was he injured, I dunno.
Is he hungry and determined to improve his game, his technique, his preparation, his mental toughness?...if so, he has very nice upside. But improvement is necessary, not status quo, as I think the question implies a desire for an AA level tender, at least HM, which is probably necessary to get deep in the NCAA's...I don't understand how he was named #1 in Ivies and AA HM as I had him has third best in Ivies behind Princeton and Penn tenders...and not a close call. Others apparently disagreed, perhaps before those last 4 games. But hey, within reach for sure.
My general impression is that there's sound reason to be quite hopeful.
But most of this is up to Chayse and his teammates. Hunger factor will be key.
It'll be fun to see what happens!
Re: Johns Hopkins 2024
Yes on Allen. I forget the year but Quinn noticed a flaw in our goalies positioning and made a suggestion. After implementation goalie play improved and Hopkins went on an end of season run. The following year he joined the staff.MDlaxfan76 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 03, 2023 9:31 amPretty sure Dave Allan had the role of working with FOGO's not the tenders, nor did I see him on the recruiting trail when my goalie son was coming up.
