Also, remember that it takes more than a wink and a nod from a coach to get into grad schools at these top tier academic institutions. While playing a sport can help, they still pretty much need to get admitted on their own merit. I can name one big name from the portal who wanted to grad transfer to ND, but the school wouldn't admit her.truster49 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 20, 2023 10:29 amI also think it's important (and something I think this sub sometimes misses) to take into account academics. If you follow the men's basketball portal, this issue is real: undergrad and grad. Several high-profile UNC basketball players could not get into their first choices and you know the revenue programs carry a lot more weight than the lowly non-rev sports.LaxDadMax wrote: ↑Tue Jun 20, 2023 6:09 pmAlso, remember that it takes more than a wink and a nod from a coach to get into grad schools at these top tier academic institutions. Daughter follows in same steps as dad.
There's something wrong with a bunch of adults (prob grown men) speaking this way about a 19-year-old and her family.
Re: Transfer portal
Maybe it is unfair, maybe it isn’t. But it’s well known that coaches consider this. It’s a benefit to recruits and parents who might be reading this to know that bad behavior is noticed and considered. And a 19 year old isn’t a 15 year old. They have some control over this.LaxGnome22 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 20, 2023 7:59 pmFather does seem like a tool but unfair to put that on the daughter. I’m not sure who we’re talking about here. But I have seen some crazy ass mofo parents during my years of travel across and even college. That if I were a coach and I was thinking about recruiting a kid of one of these crazy people I would bypass no matter how talented she was.lax410 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 21, 2023 10:12 amMaybe it is unfair, maybe it isn’t. Yep I agree with that. But I also think some programs pass on kids because of their parents. I’ve been told that’s usually some of the questions a club director gets about kids. You are correct in that she is not responsible for her parent’s behavior, but as an adult she can influence his participation in her sports. Simply tell the parent they are not welcome to attend games if they cannot behave. I’ve seen this happen with club teams where the players, wives, and even coaches have asked certain parents to not attend. She cannot control his behavior but she shouldn’t enable it either.truster49 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 21, 2023 12:20 pmAre you guys kidding? 15, 19, 30, 50, it doesn't matter. Maybe the intimation that apple doesn't fall far from tree. College is a great time to learn some new ways of handling situations/presenting yourself. I have known players that once they got to college told their parents to "shut up". I have also known players who were passed over by their top choice because of their, and their parents, behavior.truster49 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 21, 2023 12:20 pmAre you guys kidding? 15, 19, 30, 50, it doesn't matter.
