2023's grad students are the last of the Corona-extra-year players, no? i.e. In 2023, there were still lots of players who went to a school for 4 years, graduated, and still had at least a year of eligibility to bring to another school as a grad student. This phenomena being so common is now over, right?

2020 - no eligibility used by anyone
2021 - use eligibility
2022 - use eligibility
2023 - use eligibility
2024 - last year of eligibility for 2020 spring freshmen

then there's anyone that took a redshirt for medical or non-medical any time starting in 2019 excepting 2020. and of course any ivy player that didn't have a season in 2021. or a d3 player who got a 2nd covid year in 2021.

so not done.

With no insult intended to anyone involved, I'm looking forward to this extra-Corona-year thing being over. I understand that top players have transferred from BU to UNC, SU to UMD, Bucknell to wherever for many years. But the transformation of Notre Dame, G'town, etc. due to transfers seems like a very different thing to me. Ready for it to be over...

Per IL twitter
attackman Josh Zawada has entered the portal as a grad student for 2024, sources tell @Inside_Lacrosse. The 2x All-American has 213 points in 51 games in Ann Arbor. Zawada has applied to a grad program at UM, so returning is an option.

+1, though I do want to insult some of those involved. Next year is the last year of 5 year eligibility. Though I guess the Ivy guys who were freshman in '20 would still have eligibility to play in '25 due to the cancelled '21 season (how stupid was that?).

The portal does give us all plenty of "content" to take us through the off-season, so there is that benefit.

You and me both ... although I do get a chuckle out of hearing players use the term "Rental Car Senior."

I see he is originally from North Carolina. Is he interested in possibly transferring to Duke or North Carolina?

Because I think Baltimore is a more charming place to land.

Who are some of the more underrated uncommitted players in the Portal so far? Thomas Greenblatt from Binghamton stands out to me. Quarterback midfielder with 58 points who was named HM All-American this year. Toron Eccleston from D2 national champion Lenoir-Rhyne also sticks out. Big lefty Canadian with 83 points this year who can play either attack or midfield.

I have no idea about most of the defensemen. Wright from UNC will obviously be getting significant playing time wherever he ends up. He has been the main guy at LSM since he first stepped on the field in Chapel Hill back in 2020.

Boyden from Tufts looks like he would be a natural fit in Syracuse's system.

Strangely enough they've both been rumored to Ohio State, though neither have publicly announced. Have also heard maybe Eccleston to St. Joe's.

The three Lehigh guys are all good and will help a contender. Mule, Sidorski, Tiernan

Rental Car Senior, that's pretty funny.

I must admit, while I was happy for Notre Dame, I couldn't help but have some moments of "He doesn't play for ND, he plays for Yale", "He doesn't play for ND, he plays for etc." and, worse, "Notre Dame won the National C'ship... sort of". I really want the heavy handedness of the current transfer portal to be in my rearview mirror.

Agree on Greenblatt and Wright, think both are probably getting a lot more attention then is publicly known. A lot of teams could use one if not both.

I also agree on Boyden, electric player whose game you think would translate even with the major jump in competition. I think any other year Syracuse would be all over him but as it stands right now they have a numbers crunch at attack with Spallina & Hiltz locked in and Thomson wanting to return back to his natural attackmen spot. Not to mention incoming 5 star Trey Deere. SU could use a main dodging threat at attack as none of three projected attackmen scream elite level dodger so perhaps based on that they keep Thomson at middie and bring in a Boyden or another QB type to free up Spallina and Hiltz.
