Northwestern v. Boston College, High Noon 5/28/2023

I get playing to the final whistle, but the last two goals felt a little uncalled for.

The last two goals aren’t a great look. Look forward to their battle next year !

It’s interesting to me that anyone thinks NU should have let up at the end given what happened to them in the Final Four last year.

Wow Big Ten members move ahead of ACC members 24-6 in ncaa titles. Very impressive group.

Not speaking on behalf of BC. The older I get, the more I care about the spirit of the game. Hard to enjoy plays that are explicitly antithetical to that. But to each their own.ultravisitor wrote: ↑Sun May 28, 2023 2:23 pmIf BC is going to be upset with anyone, they should start with their goalie.

Choosing not to shoot up 11 with 1 second left is hardly “letting up”ultravisitor wrote: ↑Sun May 28, 2023 2:32 pm It’s interesting to me that anyone thinks NU should have let up at the end given what happened to them in the Final Four last year.

I’m quite surprised at how badly BC got out coached today. If you are going to give the BC staff credit, and you should, for reaching six final games in a row, you have to give them blame for losing all but one of them.
Maybe you can blame the sloppy, out of control, overly physical play on the players, but the coaches have to bear some responsibility for the lack of discipline and overall poor play the Eagles showed today. The defensive game plan was awful. Whoever coaches the goalie had to tell her to stop trying to do too much. When she plays within herself, she can be a good goalie, at least when she is hot. But when she plays out of control as she did today, she really hurt the team. And why in the world do you keep using the same player at center when your team is losing all the draws? Offensively, BC never could figure out Northwestern’s defense. Why was that?

At that point, the damage was done and one more goal doesn’t make a difference either way. Let the girls celebrate and have their fun on the field. For the one that scored, it’s literally the last time ever for her college career and likely something she never dreamed possible when she started her collegiate career. (I’m also willing to bet that a lot of people never saw that for her given that she spent most of her career at Mercer.) She shouldn’t have to worry about protecting the egos of others.washedup wrote: ↑Sun May 28, 2023 2:37 pmChoosing not to shoot up 11 with 1 second left is hardly “letting up” byultravisitor wrote: ↑Sun May 28, 2023 2:32 pm It’s interesting to me that anyone thinks NU should have let up at the end given what happened to them in the Final Four last year.

So when you were younger you probably would have been as caught up in the thrill and excitement of the moment in the NC game and put it in too, eh? Don't have any problem with last two goals.washedup wrote: ↑Sun May 28, 2023 2:34 pmNot speaking on behalf of BC. The older I get, the more I care about the spirit of the game. I don’t know. Conventional wisdom is that if you take the goalie out of the circle, you want the other team to shoot. So they did. Maybe the last shot was unnecessary, but I have no problems with the one before that on an open net.
Re: Northwestern v. Boston College, High Noon 5/28/2023
I mean most of the years I played we didn’t have a shot clock, so it would have been a 10 minute stall at the endDMac wrote: ↑Sun May 28, 2023 2:42 pmSo when you were younger you probably would have been as caught up in the thrill and excitement of the moment in the NC game and put it in too, eh? I wouldn't have been watching that, shot clock is the best thing that ever happened to wlax, IMO (some other significant rule changes has made it a better game too).
No disrespect tour era intended.

Whole heartedly agree, as I’ve posted other places. Just acknowledging that end of game scenarios have changed drastically over the last 10 years.

Are you conveniently using all of the Maryland Championships they won when they were in the ACC?Essexfenwick wrote: ↑Sun May 28, 2023 2:33 pm Wow Big Ten members move ahead of ACC members 24-6 in ncaa titles. Very impressive group.

3 in big 10. So it’s really northwestern, Maryland and penn state.
So yes. Big 10 has two great programs. But acc most national champs.
