The Bud Light debacle appears to me to just be the final straw.NattyBohChamps04 wrote: ↑Fri May 26, 2023 1:16 pmI use the term 'snowflake' because of conservatives' constant use of the word. Quick to jump on others for their offensiveness while being offensive himself.
If I drank Bud Light I'd still be drinking it and not give a schidt what anybody thought of that. Never drank it before, still don't.
And yes, I'm calling people offended by Bud Light advertising to trans people snowflakes. If you're offended by the term snowflake, then that's your right.
There's a difference in being offensive to people who are being hateful and actively harming others vs. being offensive to innocent people who are just trying to live their lives with little to no impact on others.
He used the same language about "trans agenda" and "jamming down our throats". I mean, really? What's this "agenda", please respect our right to live and be how we want to be, don't bully us, don't beat us up...rather 'ally' with us? Is this 'trans' issue really just the newest way to express distaste for homosexuality in general?
And what the heck is being "jammed down our throats"??? A beer marketer paid a young influencer to tout the beer in a way that was a bit edgy...to her followers...would any of us have ever seen it, much less had it "jammed down our throats" if some right wing digital extremists hadn't picked it up and made a big deal about it? I sure wouldn't have known about it.
And really, Target (and pretty much every other mass market retailer with a customer base that skews younger) displays some rainbow clothing and we go nuts about it? Is anyone making me buy it? No. Heck, when was the last time any of us even went into a Target? I might do so twice a year at most...
Where is all this outrage coming from, really?
Yes, "snowflakes" is the right word for those who liked to bandy that about pejoratively about those who thought police violence was out of hand...
Now, I have multiple friends who are gay, or have family members who are gay, children who identify gender fluid etc, one transitioning I hear. I sure a heck hope these folks can live in a society more accepting of their choices than the one we grew up in...
It's not going to change any of my choices, so why should I get uptight about it?
And I guess it scares some people...

Bud Light helped kick off Pride Month 2016 with this ad depicting a same-sex wedding. "Gay weddings, they're just like any wedding," actor Seth Rogen says after we see a gay couple cutting a wedding cake. Rogen, along with Amy Schumer, then runs through wedding cliches like: "cringe-worthy speeches," "the girl who's super ready to settle down," and "cake." It ends with Rogen declaring: "Bud Light proudly supports everyone's right to marry whoever they want."
The spot was promoted by Ellen DeGeneres, who was paid to share the video to her millions of followers on Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and Instagram. She said: "Looks like there's another party I'd vote for. #BudLightParty #LaughDancePartner". Remarkably, it only has less than half a million views even after four years, while regular posts by Ellen generate millions.

Yes -- Americans loved mocking men in drag, & still do. Your link called the pre-2016 ads "transphobic".
The 2016 commercials were supportive & meant to be taken seriously. They were not done for laughs.
They bombed. Now -- Dylan is being campy & in your face. Not favorably received, to say the least.
Remember these -- what would they do for your ESG score ?
I bet Cliff Claven isn't the only beer drinker or burger eater who still "responds" positively to them.

Yes, it's long been said that cycling is dirty. A cesspool that appears is going to have separate bathrooms/locker rooms for men and women. Looks like they're going to have separate competitions for men and women too. The experience they've had with trans men competing with women has led them to this decision. The guy in the video is personally involved with this, he sees what's going on from box seats, unlike those of us here. I put a whole lot more stock in what he has to say than the six posters here. Piers might be a little jerk but what he says here is the sentiments of a whole lot of other people including the committee members who decided against trans men competing with women in their races.PizzaSnake wrote: ↑Fri May 26, 2023 10:25 pmDMac wrote: ↑Fri May 26, 2023 8:50 pm I think this is a fair and interesting discussion which expresses the sentiments of many.

Ten minutes ago you were calling people who were offended by every little thing "snowflakes", and mocking cancel culture. I find this interesting, you post the same article I do, seems to me as if we're pretty much in agreement here but you're anything but agreeable with me all along the way. Lia Thomas has no business competing against women in the swimming pool (and does not belong in their locker rooms) and Riley Gaines is 100% right in raising all kinds of hell about it. Leslie Mumford has no business competing with women cyclists, and those who wouldn't stand on the podium with the trans are 100% right in making a statement (something they don't have to worry about anymore because enough people have come to their senses and made a change). This is not difficult. Boys and girls competing in elementary school is hardly the same thing, actually not even in the same ballpark as a trans swimmer, cyclist, sprinter, etc competing against women. This is bullschidt and it has nothing to do with trans rights.Typical Lax Dad wrote: ↑Fri May 26, 2023 11:22 pm https://amp.theguardian.com/sport/2023/ ... e-category

Yep we agree. Unfortunately that is being argued across the country. Legislation proposed in some communities to ban it at ALL AGES. Just like Amanda Gorman’s poem has been labeled as “hate speech” at at least one school. Agreeing in specific subset of conclusions and all the journey in between and degrees of spectrum means two people can agree on an end point but doesn’t mean all the reasoning or case each builds internally is the same or logically equal. I tend to agree with both of you but I also absolutely will not bug out if my daughter has to compete with a non binary former boy. I’d just tell her, “don’t worry leave it all out there and go on and beat that b**ch!” (Not really but that attitude anyways) grumble on here like I do about the cheating a** exurb mouth breathers who literally have 1/3 their roster 4yrs older than my kids for a fact but to go buck wild crazy and whine about it as a parent sends a dogsh*t message to their kids about life IMO.DMac wrote: ↑Sat May 27, 2023 9:04 amI find this interesting, you post the same article I do, seems to me as if we're pretty much in agreement here but you're anything but agreeable with me all along the way. It would not bother me at all either but I can understand some form or guidelines…. Like I have been saying, it’s not that simple:Farfromgeneva wrote: ↑Sat May 27, 2023 9:41 amAgreeing in specific subset of conclusions and all the journey in between and degrees of spectrum means two people can agree on an end point but doesn’t mean all the reasoning or case each builds internally is the same or logically equal. This is bullschidt and it has nothing to do with trans rights.Typical Lax Dad wrote: ↑Fri May 26, 2023 11:22 pm https://amp.theguardian.com/sport/2023/ ... e-category
“research studies indicating that even with the suppression of testosterone, transgender women who transition post-puberty retain a performance advantage.”
This has been my take…. Also, any transgender athlete that competed at an competitive level as a male, should also face increased scrutiny depending on the sport. I don’t support one size fits all. Boys and girls compete in many sports through elementary school.

I wonder why we don’t read stories about the transgender athletes that aren’t winning? Do you have any idea why that would be? I can’t think of any….

I have 2-3 kids on my lacrosse team my daughter would beat the ish out of on almost any athletic endeavor and shes wayyy too girly and a social butterfly for my tastes.Typical Lax Dad wrote: ↑Sat May 27, 2023 9:15 amYep we agree. Unfortunately that is being argued across the country. Legislation proposed in some communities to ban it at ALL AGES. Just like Amanda Gorman’s poem has been labeled as “hate speech” at at least one school. That poem is “hate speech”?DMac wrote: ↑Sat May 27, 2023 9:04 amI find this interesting, you post the same article I do, seems to me as if we're pretty much in agreement here but you're anything but agreeable with me all along the way. It’s all politics now. Kind of silly….it’s to distract from stuff like this:Farfromgeneva wrote: ↑Sat May 27, 2023 10:37 amI have 2-3 kids on my lacrosse team my daughter would beat the ish out of on almost any athletic endeavor and shes wayyy too girly and a social butterfly for my tastes.Typical Lax Dad wrote: ↑Sat May 27, 2023 9:15 amYep we agree.
