There's more than a good chance that McNaney won't be ready at the beginning of the year as it usually takes a full year for an ACL to get back into game shape. And you're always a risk to reinjure it right after. So yes, Ruppel would be a backup, but a little different than normal.blue angels wrote: ↑Tue May 16, 2023 11:42 amMaryland is in a better situation for 23/24 than most teams with 2 talented experienced goalies. However, it's tough to play more than one goalie and with an AA veteran returning from injury, will Ruppel now agree to, sit for a year when he could start for any number of other D1 teams? It would be unethical, but I suspect there will be some people in his ear about this, but maybe he is happy regardless.

You fellas should start your 2024 thread.
Re: Maryland 2023
Ruppel's save percentage was 48.4%. That was while mostly playing behind a sturdy defense. For too many people his season will be remembered/defined by his 3 saves in 5 seconds against UVA. Overall it was pretty mediocre. I get it, he's a freshman who may have a significant upside but it's far from certain that the Terps net is in good hands once McNaney graduates.

Re: Maryland 2023
He was a freshman. Liam Entenmann who is a stud had a .511 save percentage for the 5 games he started his freshman year. He had a ridiculous defense in front of him. And his save percentage was skewed greatly by his 80% save game against Cleveland State; he was 37% against Denver and 41% against Ohio State in his last two games starting. Kyle Bernlohr's freshman year had a .421 save percentage in the 8 games he played in (limited time sure) as a freshman.fsclax wrote: ↑Tue May 16, 2023 12:16 pm Ruppel's save percentage was 48.4%. Both ended up okay. Not saying Ruppel is going to be Entenmann or Bernlohr, but there's at least a few examples demonstrating that freshman goalies often struggle. It's just a huge job for an 18 year old to take on.

Very true, the risk of re-injuring an ACL drops enormously between 9 and 12 months post-surgery. Having said that, he's a goalie not a running back. I'd expect him to slap a brace on and be ready to play at the start of the season. I'd bet big money that's his intention.PulpExposure wrote: ↑Tue May 16, 2023 12:15 pmThere's more than a good chance that McNaney won't be ready at the beginning of the year as it usually takes a full year for an ACL to get back into game shape. For sure. That's definitely his plan - it's got to be.fsclax wrote: ↑Tue May 16, 2023 12:25 pmVery true, the risk of re-injuring an ACL drops enormously between 9 and 12 months post-surgery. Ah that’s not fair. I attended my first Terp lacrosse game in 1976. I’m just a fan who has attended games for years. I only recently discovered that “thread” was used for something besides clothing.

The Falcons placing WR Jared Bernhardt on the reserve/retired list.

Read the instagram comments, he is gone. Too bad, could’ve been a star in lax. I hope Trader has a good football year but realizes his love of lax….a fairy tail. We will need some help at SSDM. Many athletes strive for the NFL but so few make it.

He very well may be gone…but the comments don’t tell us anything lol

Ruppel saying "Been a pleasure. Gonna miss my guy." tells us something...

Dante has too much at stake with a NFL future awaiting.
He fulfilled his dream of playing Lacrosse with the Terps.
What a great guy and super athlete!!
It would have been great if he returned but if not I wish him all the luck in the world.
