US Lacrosse All Americans 2023
Re: US Lacrosse All Americans 2023
At least 4 of these 12 midfielders don’t play midfield they play attack. Including 2 on the first team. Fiona McGowan isn’t even listed as a middie on UMass roster. Come on US Lax Magazine. The list isn’t bad other than thatBrownlax wrote: ↑Tue May 09, 2023 12:59 pm FIRST TEAM

Re: US Lacrosse All Americans 2023
My one big issue with this list is how many honorable mention All-Americans there are. Everyone gets a prize!!
Re: US Lacrosse All Americans 2023
Ward and Carney might be playing with a little chip on their shoulders. Might feel like they've got a little something to prove.
Thanks, committee.

So of the top 110 college players in D1, there are only two in the Ivy League? Challenge.

Re: US Lacrosse All Americans 2023
Very few players from teams outside the Top 30. Limited Ivy League representation does not surprise me based on the games I have watched. Ivy League talent has dropped over the years in my opinion. An AA caliber player should be tearing it up against Ivy League talent. Are you seeing many of those types of players in the Ivy League?
Re: US Lacrosse All Americans 2023
Pretty telling that UNC doesn't have any 1st or 2nd teasers but then they literally have their entire team as honorable mention
Re: US Lacrosse All Americans 2023
Nalls and BWW definitely should be higher up the list. A bit surprised that one or both of them aren’t on the first team.
But then these lists always have surprises, don’t they?

I agree, but that’s JMO. Seeing the list and all these names together really has made me appreciate how many great defenders are in the game right now.

Re: US Lacrosse All Americans 2023
Let's remember that the Ivies lost almost all of 2020 and ALL of 2021. What was the impact of this? Case study: Penn SENIOR Izzy Rohr, the 2023 Ivy defender of the year and an outstanding player, played her first season this year since FRESHMAN year (5gp/5gs in 2020). The league took a huge step back developmentally due to COVID and in Rohr's case add injury to the mix. That there are any Ivy players on this list at all is an accomplishment, IMHO.Lax101 wrote: ↑Tue May 09, 2023 5:36 pm Very few players from teams outside the Top 30. (Abby Bosco went from Penn to UMD in 2022 and managed to do quite well for herself. On the AA list again in 2023, congrats!)
Would not be surprised to see Penn win their opening NCAA match up vs. UCONN. Corbett is an excellent coach and this team looks like Penn of old to me.

Re: US Lacrosse All Americans 2023
They should be higher
It’s always interesting when lists come out beginning of season to what they are now . Just look at Jenner for example.
Re: US Lacrosse All Americans 2023
Well, not everyone. I do notice that there are some ACC frosh listed over other players with Top 10 teams that have much, much better stats.
Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest you be like him yourself.
Re: US Lacrosse All Americans 2023
I would like to see “draw specialists” added to this list as its own category. The men’s game recognizes faceoff specialists. Draw specialists and fogo’s are not midfielders. A few of the listed midfielders are draw specialists at their school.

Boys had the exact same headwinds and it’s played out very differently. New to this but wondered if the gap between Ivy and non-Ivy was this wide in WLax 2010-2019. Perhaps it’s just the pool of elite academic options for the girls is wider. Or said another way, Stanford, Northwestern, and Vandy are taking girls away from the Ivies, while on the boys side there is an Ivy offer and if they don’t come calling and it’s academics first, NESCAC becomes the next best option.watcherinthewoods wrote: ↑Wed May 10, 2023 8:27 amLet's remember that the Ivies lost almost all of 2020 and ALL of 2021. Re: US Lacrosse All Americans 2023
Ivy on the men's side has also had more success in recent years that they can point out to recruits. Brown made the Final Four in 2016. Yale won the title in 2018 and got back to the title game the next year. Cornell made the title game last year and Princeton made the Final Four. On the women's side, the last Ivy League team to make the Final Four was Penn in 2009. The last team to play in the title game was Penn in 2008. The last team to win a title was Princeton in 2003. We're only a few years away from the current crop of recruits not being born the last time an Ivy women's team even played in a Final Four.Bystanders wrote: ↑Fri May 12, 2023 7:30 amBoys had the exact same headwinds and it’s played out very differently.
