Thanks, 1313! My only comment in terms of perspective is to not view the ILT loss to Yale as being much other than an outlier. Cornell's last four trips to the Final Four have been preceded by an Ivy loss in their final Ivy game (be it the ILT or regular season). For whatever reason, with a few notable exceptions, the ILT has never been a tremendously successful format for Cornell.

I saw a reference to the victory over Michigan in football. My Dad, a 51 grad often referenced that day. He was very proud of that win.

He would have loved watching this Big Red lacrosse team.

Go Big Red.

The intangible is that this is Michigan's first playoff appearance. Experience definitely gives Cornell an extra edge.

Let's not look too far ahead. I remember 2008. Cornell #8 seed (11-3) with Max Seibald, John Glynn, Ryan Hurly got thumped (15-7) in NCAA 1st round at Schoellkopf by Ohio State, then coached by Joe Breschi. I do believe Buczek and Stevens will have the team ready to play but certainly no gimme.

Go Big Red!

Also, and I forget the year but they were again an 8 seed and got beat by the Thompsons and Albany, by a pretty substantial score.
Buczek and Steven's have had them incredibly focused after a loss so I expect a great effort by the Red.

Both those games came to my mind as well. Hopefully we're refocused for Sunday and bring our "A" game.

To prevail, Cornell needs to lower Michigan's faceoff % to closer to 50% and maintain its ground ball dominance.  Jack and Angelo need to keep the ball in play at the X until the wings arrive. That is where Marc Psyllos does his best work scrapping for ground balls.  The Boiardi stats are what can win this game for the Big Red.  Coach Richie Moran only kept one stat: ground balls.
Yale’s wings successfully blocked our wings from joining the fray. Their FOGOs would then win the ground balls, and often start a fast break.

Lotsa talk out there about Michigan being on a hot streak. However, playing against Cornell right after a Big Red loss can be a very unpleasant experience! Good luck against Michigan, go get 'em!

I would caution against over confidence. When you look at the big tens performance against the ivys this year, there will be plenty of people who view Michigan as the clear favorite. But Cornell will defend every inch of their home turf and I expect them to make life difficult for Michigan.

Hmmm....I believe a certain fanlax forum poster, and huge fan of the Big Red predicted a couple months ago that Mr. Adler would be the #1overall pick.

Do you recall which poster that was?

For those handicapping who will receive the Schmeisser Award for best defenseman, Georgetown's Will Bowen was the 7th pick. GBR!

Great prediction, Joewillie! And congratulations to Gavin Adler on the well-deserved recognition. I hope this will ensure that he is a Tewaaraton top 5 finalist and the Schmeisser Award winner.

Thanks O, and really, it was an easy prediction as Adler is a once in a generation talent. How could you not choose a guy where you simply say to him " you take away the other teams top weapon" and the dude does it everytime.

The clincher was when Mackesy the week before put up pinball numbers of like 8,2, and the very next week against this guy is SHUTOUT, just astounding.

I don't know who he gets this week, Boehm or Zawada, but whoever it is, is in for a tough day at the office.

Yeah, this was especially notable. Three other close defensemen were picked ahead of last year’s Schmeisser winner. That speaks volumes; you might pick one other guy because he fits your system better, but not three.

Adler has been hands down the best pole in the country, and it’s not even close.

Adler made the last USILA Team of the Week. That is also a good sign.
